Leicester is a key interchange station located at the heart of the Midland Main Line, with services seen predominantly by East Midlands Railway and CrossCountry using Class 222s and 170s. I visited Leicester station on the weekend, but there was still a healthy number of trains passing through the station.
It was a bit disappointing to see that the variety at Leicester has decreased over the past few years, with the loss of HSTs on the trunk Midland Main Line corridor, and local East Midlands Railway services have started to be replaced by newer Class 170s from West Midlands Railway. Despite this, there's still plenty of trains heading in and out of the busy loco works just to the north of the station here.
