Yes! I've argues with so many grown adults because they've "had 40 years of experience" with a bird in a tiny, round cage with an all seed diet never let out etc. And it makes me dad how many adults think they are entitled to argue with years of research AND experience just because they've had a bird :(

That perfectly describes my aunt and uncle. They haven’t the slightest clue how to properly care for a bird but think that they know it all and don’t listen to anybody elses advice. Their African Gray randomly started overpeening and I suggested that they take him to the vet. When they said no I begged them, and said that I would schedule the appointment, and pay for his visit. They stopped talking to me altogether after that.

@@alec2991 I hear you, but don't be discouraged! Some people wear their knowledge as part of their personality, so when you criticize the information, they feel personally attacked. It's not up to you to change their ways, they took decades to be on this level of stubbornness. Instead, focus your energy on people that would actually want to improve, but don't know how :)

I feel better about my three noise machines now. They don't care to obey me either. Only had them two months now and finally getting a good response towards my hand. I still can't touch them yet but they don't fly out of the cage in terror anymore when I put my hand in. I am thinking I should be able to hand train soon.

I'm at the very same point with my Budgie (rescued 2 months ago). He's still scared but we're working on it. He's very flighty and doesn't return very well at all. He's very sweet and I know we'll get there once he adjusts to an entirely new life with me. I have no idea how old he is or what his background is. He knows a few tricks already (from his previous life). I can't wait to see what else he knows how to do! He still won't play with any toys yet or eat "anything" healthy, which I offer daily. I've tried to find his owner(s) but no one has been looking for him, which is sad. I've finally declared that he's officially mine, after 8 week of looking for his family. He's no longer a "foster" bird! I call him Houdini because he's quite an escape artist, sigh. Good luck with your baby!!

I'd start with them on a flat surface and clicking for stepping up onto the back of your hand, reset them off with a lure, then keep slowly turning your hand until your finger is on the top for a step up. Also, make sure your finger is not level with the stand but about 1/2 an inch above the stand touching their chest

I know you probably won't see this but this just happened I commented a while back about having been given a cockatiel a while back and I had no real experience with a bird bigger than a budgie and after having had those bite me as a kid and teen several times I had somewhat lost trust I'm parrots and was honestly at a loss for what to do so I scheduled a vet appointment to check her up and got to work on doing research on how to make her life the best it can be, I followed pretty much to a T all the advice you have on your channel, immediately set out to work on a diet change cause she was around 6 months and only eating seeds, got a chopstick and a clicker and for just over a month now got to work. Yuki was not hand fed as a baby and had no previous real human interactions so I've spent this first month making sure I never overstepped her boundaries and that all our interactions were mainly positive, began educating my parents too on how to interact with her so she bonded positively with more people and educated myself on how to help her safely fly around in bird proof areas of my house (she's fully flighted and I intend on keeping her that way) and helped her get confidence to step out of her cage on her own and explore (she does this on her own now and even asks me to let her out at times) today for the first time ever she was playing with my glasses and afterwards bowed her head and let me rub her little head, it was such an emotional experience cause just 3 months ago I lost my beloved guinea pig to cancer and had been struggling on how to process this loss but working with her not only brought me healing but a new friend now hopefully for the next decades of my life and it's honestly all thanks to your wonderful advice on this channel giving me hope that if I stuck with I'd see results and I honestly did. Much love all the way from Portugal! ♡

I have two budgies that are fully flighted but I'm having some trouble with training them because we got them both at the same time and they kind of distract each other and they fly around the room, they are very good about getting picked up and target training in their cage, but once they fly around the room it's like they don't remember anything I've taught them. Most of the time when they fly around they will step up to go back to their cage but I just don't know how to progress their training. Is there anything you think I should try doing?

I have found that some birds like praise more than a seed or other food for their treat. My budgie loves her millet and responded very well to it. When I got my Pineapple Conure, he didn't or any other food. He isn't food motivated. He is praise and love motivated. It took me a minute to figure it out. I did the finding favorites treat thing as Dave and Jamie tell you to do and while I found his fav that still wasn't what he wanted. And, I say he because I've never had him tested but, he seems more like a male. My budgie is an obvious female. Her Cere settled right at a year and she went through her first hormonal stage it got all crusty and dark. Lol. Too bad conures aren't sexually dimorphic.
