TRAINING MY YOUNGEST HORSE VS MY MOST EXPERIENCED
Howdy everyone, lovely to have you back on the chan chan. Here's a video that I filmed with the wonderful Nina from Fancyfootworkpolesandgrids a week or so ago. She helps me out with some really useful pole exercises for both my youngest, and my most experienced horse. See how I go about training these different levels of horses.

Whinnie is going to be absolutely amazing. Already showing us glimpses of what her movement will be in the future, she looks like she will be really safe, she doesnt bottle up her emotions which I love. Can we get an updated video of Ari under saddle soon? Or is he still on his break?

How do you know?
what nina was saying about how dee’s default is just to throw herself at it is a great realization, because jumpers are conditioned to jump anything they’re pointed at - if they don’t, they get a smack, kick, jerk, etc (punishment) rather than trying to build up their confidence. a way to avoid this is by taking it slowly and when she does “throw herself at it” try to rethink your approach and how she views it in panic mode!
I'm in LOVE with Winnie. Such a great baby brain!
That was very interesting. Nice to see Winnie so engaged and forward. She is coming along really nicely. You are so thoughtful of your horses. I might have missed it, but were you still using the "whoooooaaaaas" with DeeDee that Holly suggested and shifting your weight and doing little give & takes with your hands? Dee seemed to respond so well when you added in those cues. I know you don't video every single minute of every day, so probably you're doing it during other takes/days, etc. Thanks for sharing your lovely ponies with us :)
its so nice to see your confidence growing! You look like you've finally realised what a cracking rider you are!!!
Something neat I noticed at the 6:52 mark. Dee is nodding as Nina is raising the poles. I played it slower at several different speeds (0.50 and 0.75) and she is acknowledging the new setup. Clever girl! And beautiful bond between the two of you! Edit: 0.6 is a good speed for watching.
Anyone else see Alicia Silverstone in Meg? I could never pinpoint who she reminded me of. Love your videos❤️and your ponies
I'd love more videos of a voiceover on you training your new backed horses! It's such an insight for people who don't ride horses!
i would’ve loved to see bear do this haha! Winnie is gorgeous and she’s going to be such a star
I love your videos. My favorites of all time are the ones where you literally just jump one of your horses. I’m not joking. I rewatch those because I love watching you jump and they are really entertaining ❤️
Clever Winnie, much more forward, lovely canter transitions. Dee, just fab as usual! Interesting vlog Meg. 👏
I loved this video Meg!! The in hand pole work is so invaluable to the mind of a horse that is going to be a competition horse either in Show Jumping or 3 day Eventing. It even helps Dressage horses become aware of their feet as well for the higher movements like shoulder in or out, leg yields and even backing up. I hope you show more and that she does come back again. I know I'm now going to use those ground poles in training the one youngster I have coming for backing in September. So thank you for the great video and idea!! Love from a Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 💖 🇨🇦🇬🇧
The big smile on your face says it all! Epic ponies!
Lovely. I don’t have horses any more but I love watching. Very sensitive and thoughtful.😀
Great vlog Meg Whinnie is a clever pony her confirmation will be beautiful as she matures and Deedee was super as always very interesting pole work with Nina.tfs😎🏇😎
I very much enjoyed watching the difference between the two horses. ☺️
I love the contrast between the young and the experienced. Thanks Meg!

This is going to be so good can’t wait. Meg you are so cool.
amazing! Ive had Nina teach me before, she's wonderful and keeps everyone's brains engaged
They both did SOO well, I'd say you're mighty chuffed with them both Meg. Interesting and informative stuff with the pole exercises too xx
These videos help so much for me, using the professional tricks for my own green horse
Love this !!! Winnie us doing so well !! 🤩😍🔥
I loved how Dee was watching every pole with her ears forward. Whinnie was a good girl, so brave xx
The pole work looked so much fun!
Super interesting Whinny has a perfect dressage stand stop well done I will watch this again! Xx
I loved the complex layout for Dee but the real eye opener for me was the value, especially in terms of building strength, of the simple line up of poles on the ground. Fantastic session - thanks to you, Nina and the ponies!
Yay I’m finally early!! Love u Meg!
Hey Meg we love your vids!!! I’m finally early for once💗
Wow. Had to post. The fact you openly said that you like to go back a step with the 1st mare, if something feels to much is invaluable to hear for others that follow you. How often do we see people do it again and again and make a s.all issue a huge problem. But the 2nd pony, the baby. Absolutely awesome advice, regarding leaving her head alone. But can we just mention her reach for the poles to get it right, wow the little mare is awesome and talking about energy levels. I feel this video is a great masterclass in how to do it right for others to see. Fantastic

Well done Meg your such a good rider😄🐴
HIIII EARLY SO EXCITED Love you meggggg
Love it 😊
Dee looks so nice! Also love your vids!
Ace feels denied. He may be retired, but his experience is overlooked! :D
I see Han in the corner!!!!!!!! Great support!☺️☺️
Wow Dee’s grid was something!! It looks so much fun, even if it can get a little scary! I love how both of you weren’t afraid to take a step back to make it work. I wish I was in the UK to have a session with Nina 😂 Winnie will be amazing, just like her mom!
I didn't notice until you were doing the in-hand work with Winnie that her mane was braided. I was about to panic that you'd cut it!
Really nice idea to see the difference between the two :) also the production quality is *chef's kiss*
This was super cool to watch - and Winnie is honestly just super cute working through it. Would be interesting to see all your youngsters in a comparison!
I love these videos and Nina is amazing. Hopefully one day she can come to Scotland prey🤞🥰
Definitely want to try some of these exercises, both for a more experienced cob that needs to become more balanced and straight while keeping forwards, and a 5yo ex racer who I've just bought and I want to start the polework/jumping journey with! He's done a little bit before but I've been unsure where to start with poles, so this has been great to give me somewhere to start! 😄
Did I just see Hobbit actually having a sit down on the bench bless her ...😁😁😁😁
Love your vlogs. I always learn somethinig and end up laughing.
Both were very good and sweet Keep up the amazing content ♥️
Hi Meg, The work over the poles was wonderful. Dee is a very talented little mare and didn’t seem to have any problems whatsoever. She just went about her work beautifully, and your friend Nina was a terrific teacher, I really would love to see her come back to help you and your horses with the poles another time. Winnie is going to be a very smart girl, she did a super job over the poles and will get better and better all the time. Please do get Nina to come back. Take care. Jane😎👍🐎🐴🧑🏻🦰
Good video megan
Winnie looks incredible 😍
Always interesting videos
Dee really enjoyed the pole work. She was so engaged! Did you film Jam doing this pole work before you moved them? I imagine if Dee has a foal eventually it will be gorgeous. I can’t wait to see her future baby grow into a four year old. I hope that is a plan for the future.
Wow that’s some pole work, Dee looked like she enjoyed that, what a clever girl. Whinnie has such a good brain for a youngster and I’m loving how quick she is learning. Meg I’m setting you a challenge when Bear is back being ridden I would love to see you do some of those pole work with her!
Love those thinking ears!

I love watching videos. It makes me want to ride my ponies more but I can't ride one and leave the other as one of them is really naughty and blind in one eye. I wish I was confident enough to ride my pony's more often. Xx

Winnie's tail is going so grey! x
Isnt it about time we found out if bear is gonne be a mumma or not? :P

It’s called a spider web where I learned ride years ago 😂😂😂 it’s great fun to ride more a head game than anything😂😂😂
LOL!! What I heard the first time was; "none other than Megan Freeman" and I thought WHAT?! What is Pete's last name? Stopped and actually looked for that! Then I listened again and realized you said "other than MORGAN Freeman"!! I do love Pete too!
Strange seeing you on something not grey! She’s going to be lively! X
Cant wait for bear to get back into Work and have a swing at fancy polework 😂🤣

Can you make a update on ari? I love him and Winnie is so cute
This time next year we're gonna need a before and after video of whinnie🤭
?? What was the spacing between the in hand poles? Thanks
Pole work is fascinating to me. Also... Whinnie 🥺
Wish I could ride rn but I’m on vacation 👀
I have done this before. My youngest his name is Fanta he was the worst horse when I first bought him but he is better now.
random question where did you get your leggings from ?
does anyone know what breed whinnie and bear are?
I have just started teaching my horse with poles, however, he is a 10 years old stallion who I rescued. Is it a good Idea considering his age?
