    Spotting tip from Dave at the Heavy squats section. Dave spots the bar and not the lifter. Sometimes a 5-15 lb assist is all the lifter needs to get out of a sticking point and the lifters groove is untouched.

    I'm 6'7" and would consider myself a recreational powerlifter since I haven't competed yet. Just about to the end of my first year of serious lifting. I would be really interested in what Dave would have to say about my lifts. It's hard finding people online as tall as I am who also powerlifter so a lot of the ques I learned from are for much shorter people. Every session I learn a bit more efficiency for my height.

  • @urgamecshk

    Thats for regular squats. Box squats like this are a more vertical movement. Watch Stan Efferding teach the regular squat for proper knowledge.

    @@urgamecshk Thanks for your reply; yeah I have watched some tutorials (including ones from Stan Efferding); however, I still feel that looking down or looking straight forward maybe just different references or techniques. Saw some lifters look down and some look straight or even up at their meets. However, thinking about keeping upper back tight and moving with hip is still important then.

    It was posted without the description data. This data is needed to help the view count. As you can see from the past episodes the view counts are not strong so we need everyone we can get due to the time and cost of production. We deleted it until this could be done and then reloaded it so it will get searched. Regardless we have decided to cease these moving forward as the time and expense need to be allocated in areas of the business that will have a return. Dave will still offer this service (we will announce on our IG when they are) - we simply will not be filming them anymore. He has been doing versions of this service for over two decades so we don't see that stopping anytime soon.

    I dont understand why hes giving the guy so much trouble for not having a wide stance squat? Also, maybe he doesnt do alot of box squatting..which can be a totally different stimulus if your use to the bounce out of the bottom. I've always admired joe Sullivan's squatting and he doesnt squat super wide?

  • @metabasketball405

    @metabasketball405

    2 жыл бұрын

    Did you watch the past videos as well? Box squatting didn't cause the issue. The lifter said himself that he has always had this issue while squatting. Dave wanted the lifter to try a wider squat stance to fix the issue of his knees repeatedly caving in. He also didn't tell any of the other lifters to change their squat stance. The lifter's knees were caving in while using his current relatively narrow squat stance, even at very light weights (warmup sets). Dave tried repeatedly to cue him to externally rotate the hip to stop the knee valgus, but the lifter was still unable to fix the issue even at very light weights. Due to his apparent strength level compared to the weights he was lifting, that issue shouldn't have been happening repeatedly at sub-maximal weights when cued. With intermediate or advanced lifters, knee valgus rarely occurs repeatedly at easy, submaximal weights (but may still occur at maximal weights), especially when specifically cued. It should be a relatively easy issue to fix at sub-maximal weights if the person's squat stance allows them to effectively externally rotate the hips. Based on those observations, it's reasonable to conclude that his knees valgus is (at least partially) due to his current relatively narrow stance not putting his hips in an optimal position to allow/encourage external rotation. A wide stance puts the glutes in a more advantageous position to externally rotate, which can possibly stop the knee valgus from happening.
