All the grandeur of big-time, modern American freight railroading - bustling and constant action, tough grades, powerful diesels, majestic western scenery, and extraordinary history - come together on Union Pacific’s legendary Sherman Hill. And now, Sherman Hill comes to Train Sim World 2!
Sherman Hill stretches 58 miles between the classic railroad cities of Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming, crossing the Continental Divide at an elevation of 8,015 feet. One of the crowning achievements of America’s Transcontinental Railroad, the crossing of Sherman Hill was built in the early 1860s and ever since has been a mecca of American railroading at its best. Throughout the decades, Sherman Hill, with its tough 1.5 percent westbound grade across the Laramie Mountains, has been home to Union Pacific’s biggest and best motive power, from the fabled Big Boy of the steam era to today’s third-generation, high-horsepower diesels hauling double stacks, autos, manifest freight, coal, and more.
Sherman Hill features around 76 miles of track, becoming the longest Train Sim World route at the time of its release. 62 miles are taken up by the mainline from Cheyenne to Laramie, and another 14 miles are added with an extra line between Laramie and Hermosa. Track 3, an extra line that features a less steep grade, is not included with the route. The route runs through the plains of Wyoming, where most of the scenery is grassy fields with the occasional rocks. There are two large freight yards on each end of the route, one at Cheyenne, and one at Laramie. There are a few industries along the route such as the Granite Quarry. In February 20th 2023, the route has been upgraded to the Train Sim World 3 sky and lighting feature set along with the release of the Union Pacific Heritage Collection extension for the same route.
