I mean, it is hard to brake quick enough on controller and also, you could’ve just slid the reverser in reverse and increase the throttle just enough to not overvolt it because the dynamics working would show something on the amp meter.

@@HeadFargo Your air brake cancels out your dynamic brake. Your dynamic brake uses your engines power to stop the train and your engine using that power is useless if you're going to lock your wheels with air brakes in the emergency setting. The best and only way to stop the train quickly is to go into emergency on your air brake and flip your EOTD emergency switch if you have multiple locomotives spread across the train.

@@HeadFargo ya, you can use the air brakes with dynamics, but you cannot dump the air. Going into emergency de-energizes the generator field, which is what your dynamics use to slow the train. The air brakes push a brake pad against the wheel tread of the wheels, whereas the dynamics basically energize the traction motors in reverse. Depending on the locomotive, sometimes the dynamics will have more of a stopping force on the wheels than the air will. Look up the San Bernadino rail accident. The dynamics held the train back more than the air brakes did. When the engineer dumped the air, the dynamics cut out, the brake shoes overheated, and the train went ballistic. This would've happened anyway because of other factors that were in play, but speculation says that had the engineer not put the train into emergency, the crash might not have been as severe. But that's like saying the accident would've been a rating of 95% vs the 100% that it was.
