Lovely to have a good refresher on PZB/LZB signaling. I have always enjoyed Matt's tutorials; I think he does a great job explaining things. I was wondering if we could also see a similar kind of tutorial for North American and United Kingdom signaling systems. Even though these systems aren't as safety system "heavy," I believe it would benefit many to gain more immersion from the software.

Dude.. im new to TSW at all.. I bought a copy of TSW 3 and I like it! I played for a couple of days with AFB SIFA LZB and PZB. Only PZB i didn't understand.. i was partially reading signals and I looked up a lot on KZread if i had questions. And I was looking for a deeper explanation of PZB. And then i found you. This video. And I'm half way through your video already writing this comment 😂 This video ALREADY half way through is a Goldmine of information to me i didn't know. Like reading signals properly 😅😂 Your explanation is clear, on point and thorough! ❤ So I subbed of course. And what I'm going to do is skip all the AFB LZB PZB and SIFA stuff for now, and start first learning how to read signals! Thank you so much for making this video. This was exactly what I was looking for!😊

I think this was really well explained and the perfect mix of show and tell (or tell and show!). The only thing that could be improved is if the routes that were done after the powerpoint actually contained more adverse/wider variety of signals etc.

One note: Tempomat (when pressed) works exactly the same as the AFB when using R/F (increase/decrease) to control a speed. It can slower a train as well :) Great video, Matt. More theory makes the game fuller.

Matt. I love the commitment from your company. Service care and support is always difficult. I certainly appreciate what you do and how complicated all this stuff is. The technical challenges are there and the expectation from your community is very high. I for one have no complaint other than for loyal supporters of your software we do deserve some discount. I’m on Xbox and brought all routes and all trains bar three or so. My favourite game and actually my goto game along with assetto competizione.

The sales are not in their control, they already explained it: apart from discounts such as "cheaper if you got the first game" which are controlled by them, periodic sales are decided by the store owner (Steam, Sony or Microsoft), and Microsoft tends to do very few sales where Steam does lots of sales. And Sony does quite a fair amount of sales too.

Nice tutorial. I think it was time that someone did a more professional one. I did mine ages ago and really put no effort into editing or anything of the sort, but I was still surprised that quite a few people watched it. So the demand is obviously there. By the way: If you want to train PZB, I think the easiest way would be the new scenario editor. Make yourself a fast express service that runs the entire route with no stops, and put a train right in front of you that stops at every station. That should give you a lot to do with PZB, especially if you drive a fast accelerating train and give the AI something slow.

Thanks for this tutorial! Really appreciate it! I have TSW 2020, TSW 2 & TSW 4, but am still playing TSW 2020. I've spent a solid 400 hours playing but this is the first time I've actually looked into using safety systems. After watching your video here I'm curious how PZB/LZB and Sifa systems are activated and operated on trains like BR182 DB, BR146.2, BR185.2 DB, BR143 and 766.2 DBpbzfa DB. I'm currently driving the BR185.2 and I can see on the wall on my right; - LZB/PZB Acknowledge Release - LZB/PZB Release - Sifa button Then on the dashboard on my left the PZB/LZB controls and AFB control. But how do AI activate these? How do I turn AFB on? I would assume that all these have similar way of activating and maintaining these systems? Is there a tutorial for these anywhere, like the one you did in the video here for the Ice train? I guess I'd love to be able to view complete tutorials for each loco in this manner? Are these available? Thanks again!

In the PZB German Train Point shaped influence System you got 3 modes. It protects you not to run over the red signal. The first is the Under Train Mode got the 55 indicator light and you got 38 sec since you drive through the yellow Signal/1000 Hz to reduce the speed from 105 km/h to 55 km/h in 700 meters while the 1000 Hz indicator light is activ. You can free from the blinking 1000 Hz indicator after 700 meters with the free button. After than appears the 500 Hz indicator light 150 meters before the signal. There you have to reduce your speed again from 35 km/h to 25. The next is the Middle Train Mode with the 70 indicator light. Here you got 29 sec to reduce the speed from 125 km/h to 70 km/h and also 150 meters 500 Hz from 45 to 35 km/h. the high Mode with the 85 indicator light you got 23 sec to reduce the speed from 165 km/h to 85 km/h and at the 500 Hz indicator light 65 km/h to 45 km/h in a limited time before reaching the 🛑 Signal.

Pzb is crazy, will it be a bug or what? Scenario KÖLN Hbf - Aachen Hbf with talent2, I am about 160 - 163 km / h when I arrive at a flashing green signal and speed reduction to 80 km / h, before I even cross the signal I start to brake, pass the signal and press the PZB recognition, I continue to brake, I bring the brake to 75% over it is impossible for wheel slip, but despite this, the train after a while will activate the automatic brakes. Same route, a little further on even the limitation and at 60km / h, it is practically impossible to slow down so as not to trigger the safety braking. Could it be a bug or is there a way to avoid this?

There is one part on this route with the talent 2 and pzb I don't understand. It's from when the top speed is 160 and like the first signal that's shows its going to 80 you need to acknowledge so than you need to brake very hard to go to 85 in 23 sec. Is there a signal in missing at seeing.

Look out for advanced speed limit signs. They are: • located 1km before the speed limit reduction • inverted triangle with black text on yellow background (1:09:14) • yellow digital display (1:16:29) Speed limits are marked: • square sign with black text on white background (1:09:43) • white digital display (1:16:48, the white "4" above the signal) Note: increase of speed limits are unlikely to have an advanced speed limit sign. In any case, add zero right of the written number to determine the speed limit. Exception is the automatic wash; 5 is 5 km/h. Don't expect the train to be clean after zooming past at 50 km/h.

Looks like an improvement over the Train Simulator implementation... But in terms of being able to drive a train on an unfamiliar route in Germany, it looks like a key aspect to that still isn't implemented. I mean, you can fake it due to other stuff in the game, but the thing is, from what I remember hearing you're not actually allowed to run the train if the route map system (forget what it's called) isn't functioning. And if it genuinely can't be fixed in a reasonable timeframe you have to go into the station building and pick up a printout of the route maps; The type they used to use before they had in cab computerised equivalents. These maps are critical because they tell you where stations and signals are along your route so you can anticipate them properly. This is also why the distance markers are crucial (another flaw in Train Simulator's german routes is how many routes are missing large numbers of distance markers) German routes usually have a distance indicator every 200 metres. Combined with a map that tells you where the signals, speed restrictions stations and the like are on the route, as long as you pay attention to the distance signs and know how to read your map properly you should never be surprised by what you'll encounter even on a route you've never driven before. And that is a major factor in WHY German train drivers can run unfamiliar routes compared to most of the world where you're only allowed to run a route you've had route-specific training for. Yet train simulator never implemented the in-cab mapping system at all, and often omitted the route distance markers, so it became quite a headache to do it properly. Doesn't look like TSW2 has fixed this. Though hopefully at least the route distance markers are placed reliably. (That at least allows the hypothetical use of paper maps.) Here's a fun test if you can find the information on how to do it properly; Find the official procedures for driving a train in a given country, then start the sim and turn off all UI, and see if you run into problems. I can bet you'll almost immediately have a problem with german trains, given what the procedures look like. Of course, in some cases you'd have printed documents in a real train, so without them you might not be getting the expected results anyway. But for a modern German train you generally shouldn't need them, because it's already accounted for in the computer systems... Yet all that does in the sim is show up which of those systems isn't actually implemented. Ah well.

I totally agree with you, but where'd you got the thing that German Traindrivers don't need route training - they certainly need it, it's called Streckenkenntnis, and there was also a big shitstorm that a few private freighter train companies let their employees drive on routes they were unfamiliar with

Did you pass a distant signal showing Advanced Caution (double yellow) on your way there? Is the main signal ahead Danger (red)? If so, you run over 500 Hz magnet, which requires you to slow down to 45 km/h in about 300 meters. Since you are above the (PZB) limit, it assumes you did not see the distant signal and stops you out of precaution.

Great tutorial! It would have been a struggle to understand this from a pdf-file... It would be fun to have a "pro-mode" in the game where all the features that are coded to the trains become meaningful. Like if the train has working destination display, it should be setup at the start of the route and failing to do so would have a point penalty... This would naturally need some in-depth training scenarios.

The "Befehl 40" button consists of two parts. Once "Befehl" and once from "40". In short, 40 is simply the maximum speed with which the 2000 Hz magnet can be driven. Command (ger.: Befehl) comes from the command form (ger.: Befehlsformular), that is a piece of paper in which various orders can be given, e.g. drive over this red signal. Since you have to press this button when crossing a red signal, this is what it is called.
