After watching it for about 25 minutes I may add that the top light is the advance signal while the lower one is the main signal telling you what to do now. The white - red-white sign below the lights tells you it's a main signal, the yellow triangle below tells you it has also the function of an advance signal. The Hl-signals are similar to the Ks-signals but with more lights.

Thanks Matt, great tutorial and I hope that your throat feels better :) Timecodes: nb: LZB not covered as it isn't used on the route, see Matt's 1st German Signals and PZB tutorial for that. The Dresden-Riesa route has Hl signals and other signals types. Hl are probably the more complicated type, and the other types are covered in Matt's other PZB and signalling tutorial if needed. The signals give more/different information than the TSW2 HUD does. The earlier tutorial had more PZB information than this one did but this covers enough PZB to be able to use it. 09:40 - Matt starts talking, introduction 13:00 - What's covered 13:35 - Learning the (Hl) signals (do this first) Hl signals are speed-based instead of UK signals which are route-based. 15:10 - Hl Signals Overview, General Rules. Hl signals can be identified by a bar of yellow or green lights (although these aren't always illuminated) 17:35 - Example HL signal aspects Inc which aspects need acknowledging for PZB (if you have enabled PZB on the train) 21:25 - A yellow T on its side under the light bars (indication of route ending on a buffer or a short track, i.e. you'll be reaching the end of the line in a minute) 22:30 - Speed limits on signals (white and yellow numbers) 23:20 - How to practice reading the signals when driving (inc don't use PZB to start with) 26:50 - Q&A - Do speed limits apply to the front or the back of the train? 27:55 - SIFA recap (Driver vigilence, remember Light, Alarm, Brakes, don't turn it on when learning PZB or signals to avoid confusing yourself) 29:00 - PZB recap (Aims to ensure that the driver is following a simplified set of speed restrictions, no in-cab alarms until you do something wrong. Entirely based on signals and signs). 30:02 - Q&A - Big red W on-a-post sign - Warten/Wait sign 30:46 - How to practice PZB (dive in, don't be afraid to fail, learn from your mistakes) 31:05 - PZB Track Magnets 32:40 - GPA Speed Magnets (these are used instead of 500Hz magnets on this route in certain places, they check your speed at various points on the route and can trigger emergency brakes, particularly when the speed reduction is down to speeds higher than 90 km/h) 35:10 - Important point - Speed signs on posts need acknowledging if below 85 km/h as well, they have a fixed PZB magnet next to them. 36:27 - What GPA Speed Magnets look like on the track 37:56 - PZB - Start Programme (45 km/h limit) and When (and How) to Acknowledge PZB 40:45 - PZB Acknowledge - What to do after acknowledging to avoid PZB applying the brakes. 43:48 - Approaching a RED signal with PZB 45:00 - AFB recap (Cruise Control, how to start when stationary and when the train is moving) Skip forward to 1:17:47 for an example of enabling AFB when the train is in motion, e.g. if you forgot to turn it on before starting to move. and to 1:20:43 for an example of enabling AFB before the train starts moving. 46:50 - Q&A - Shunt (Hl Red signal aspect with white lights around it) (you are allowed to go through it but you must activate the Befehl 40 PZB button, on PC this is done by pressing-and-holding the DEL key, and must go through it at slower than 40 km/h) 47:20 - Temporomat - Speed maintenance (and how it differs from AFB) Skip forward to 1:02:28 for an example of enabling Temporamat. 48:35 - Let's Drive: 49:33 - RB31 Coswig - Großenhain in the Talent 2 (this is a great drive to watch to see examples of some of the signal aspects, fun to try it yourself afterwards, Matt drove it at 14:30:00 in-game time) 1:16:35 - S1 Coswig - Dresden (8:10:00, BR146.2) (this drive and the later ones were also good, and it is interesting to see the different PZB displays in-cab).

Another great video Matt! Thank you. Your first German signal video did convince me to try it all out and now I love it. I'm liking the new HL signals too. They're a welcome curveball. Enjoy your weekend!

I propose to make an ultra complex mode for the game. it should turn off the function of external cameras. the whole game process should take place in the first-person camera. the hood overlay should display only information about the slope (relief) and the current route speed limit. such gameplay would be interesting on shunting jobs. the first person would have to leave the locomotive and walk to the cars and arrows on the track. the ability to use the location map should be disabled. this is a real pleasure from the game.

A simple question, does the train companies in the real world offer their drivers a pad or laptop which includes all the information they need even if theses information can be found elsewhere? For example, to allow the driver to preview all the speed limit before the trip.

The short answer is yes. Previously this was done by a printed timetable. These days this is done by a separate display (called eBuLa) in the cab, which tells the driver all relevant route information (maximum train speed, line speeds, stops, maximum current supported by the OLE, etc.) together with approximated current position. Some addons for Train Simulator Classic provide this. Temporary speed restrictions and other temporarily relevant information (out of order signals, etc.) are covered in a separate printout (called La). This can also be provided on an iPad or laptop now. There is a 3rd document called „Örtliche Richtlinien“ or also „Streckenbuch“ (local guidelines or route book) which gives further information on stations. The aviation equivalent would be: The eBuLa is kind of like the Flight Management System, the La is like the NOTAMS, the „Örtliche Richtlinien“/„Streckenbuch“ is a bit like airport/approach/departure charts.
