Did u get the yellow flag because you were to go over the hotbox detector or was there another reason.

@@daveyboy_ Yellow flags are a two mile warning that there is a slow order ahead marked with green flags.

I put this baby on 1.5x speed, sparked a j, and now I'm sitting back, relaxing, and enjoying a Canadian romp thru this Winter Wonderland. Cheers Mates. Looks gorgeous 😀

Thanks Jeff. People seem to like this video, so I'm fast tracking another cab ride. It will be 2 hours in an SD70M-2 on the CN Wainwright Sub.. That it does. It starts just outside of Vermilion, so not too far from Saskatchewan.

This is in my opinion, one of the best videos on your site. Being a retired BN/BNSF engineer I miss railroading and enjoy watching long cab rides. This reminds me of running the LMX Dash 8's with similar view, albeit with a gray hood. Hope you are able to post more videos of similar or longer lengths. It surprises me to see so few views of this video as it's the best I've seen on KZread. Thanks loads for sharing your vids.

Thanks James. I'm the same, and I like turning them up loud. :) My last year before I retired, I recorded every trip that I could as I knew how badly I was going to miss it. I do have more cab footage, but as I'm sure you can appreciate, a lot of it is difficult to share as you can hear all of the cab conversations. I had a pretty quiet conductor on a trip on an SD70M-2, and I'm hoping to get that footage released by spring. Shane

@@CanadianrailroadsCa I hear you about the conversations. Vulgar language seems typical. I was fortunate to run a trio of CN SD70's between Pasco, WA and Ellensburg, WA. Nice sized adjustable footrest, standard control stand with the newer brake handles, and the great view out the lamb chop window. Sadly, I didn't have any tea bags or coffee for the hotplate. CN takes care of their employees. Wish I'd had my video camera on that run. I also video taped all the runs in most of the seniority district. @@CanadianrailroadsCa Back in the day, the best there was was high 8, 8mm tapes. Quality was not like today's Go Pro cameras. Wish it was. I transferred most to disc but the quality is not up to par for You Tube. I have to settle for what I've got. At least I can watch them.

As an engineer, does the sound of a train horn seem different when riding in the cab? Because it sure sounds cool from a distance but sounds dull on the inside.

I assume you didn’t stay in the “Red Hat Town”, on the Yellowhead Hiway”? Aka: Vermilion.

Morning! Just was curious if you knew what channels/frequency is used out by Dunvegan Junction/Yard. I’m not really concerned about what’s going on inside the yard but the trains coming and going on the west side! Would that be Channel 1 still? Going out there this afternoon now that it’s finally warming up! Thanks!

Morning Bricks. Tomorrow will be short sleeve weather after what we have been through. Yes, channel 1, and you should hear Walker Control give them yard entry instructions, and then tell them to talk to the West ( West Tower Yard Master ) at which time they will switch to channel 4. Trains leaving the yard may stay on 4 until they complete their roll by with the carmen, though they can also arrange with the carmen to go to channel 1. Between those two channels, you'll hear most of the action. I saw your big Christmas haul. It's too bad you can no longer interact with your subscribers.

I wonder how this whole line is operated. Why aren’t there any signals, say at the exit of the Mannville yard. Does that not ever work as a passing loop?

Hi Roland. The Vegreville Sub. is OCS, which means trains require written permission ( a "block" ) to be on the track. The block contains written instructions for the trip. Manville is an industrial yard. Miller, at the start of the video, is a siding. There is also a siding at Vegreville.

Was that a weather radio I heard in the background or just a regular cab radio? Too faint for me to discern. If it is its wayyy more active than our frequencies lol

Hi Joseph Joestar. There is a little radio chatter, but most of what you are hearing is my conductor telling stories. We hadn't worked together in a year, so he had a lot to share. :)

Standard cab Dash-8s are fun to look at, not as much fun to ride in during winter 😬 at least its not in the weird patched UP livery now.

Hi General. I'm a retired engineer, but everyone starts as a conductor. We had a few conductors that were fairly short, and it didn't seem to be an issue. If there's a minimum height, I'm not aware of it.

Yes, it had bad weather stripping and when the wind blew the wrong way, we'd get covered in snow inside the cab. At least it had a control stand. I hated desktop units. :)
