Great informative video mate. It's good to see you going at it in an honest way with regards hitting problems during the fix. A lot of instructional videos edit these issues out (usually identified by 2 day stubble and a plaster on their hand) 😃

Oh, also the damper doesn't release the brakes when reversing, the front shoe is spring loaded to release when reversing. You're welcome :)
@JimmyTheMower
Жыл бұрын
Doesn't the damper have an override on these ?
@MarkMacRae-kp5nx
Жыл бұрын
@@JimmyTheMower No, if you think about it when you need to brake hard (i.e in an emergency) the damper would be fully depressed and at that point the last thing you would want is the brakes to release! The damper is just a shock absorber for the drawtube so you don't get kicked up the arse every time you brake. The drawtube pushes a lever attached to the braking rod to engage the brakes. The auto reverse function of the brakes is controlled in the drums, the forward facing brake shoe is spring loaded so when the wheel is in forward motion the brakes apply as normal but in reverse they release from the drum allowing you to reverse. Overrun is controlled by the damper, if you're travelling downhill with a heavy trailer the damper will collapse slightly engaging the trailer brakes so your trailer doesn't overrun or force you to go faster down the hill.

@@MarkMacRae-kp5nx A classic case of the blind leading the blind. Thank you for your qualified input. With regard to use of tools, I would never use a ratchet to hold the bolt when using an impact gun. What i wanted to confirm, is whether these couplings don't have drawer tube bushes? My memory says they don't..
@JimmyTheMower
Жыл бұрын
No they don't. The push rod goes through a small block but it isn't bushed.
Could you please make a video about dismantling the towing support wheel? 😊

What is called the pipe on the middle that is connected to breaks?

My Ifor when reversing locks on the brakes on the trailer and I can’t move, could a knackered damper be the cause
@JimmyTheMower
Жыл бұрын
Yeah it could. My advice would be to jack the trailer up and spin the wheels backward and forwards to make sure they spin freely first. All the best, Jimmy
@zeddytd

damper wont cause thisproblem, its probably caused by brake lining coming off shoe.
Good video. Is it the vertical or the horizontal bolt for the head that goes through the damper?
@JimmyTheMower
Жыл бұрын
Both go through the head, that's why it is so hard to line up..... I was losing the will to live by the end of the video 🤣🤣🤣

@@JimmyTheMower hi Jimmy, sorry my question was do either of the bolts go through the top of the damper?
@JimmyTheMower
Жыл бұрын
@@Imtheman1977 sorry, I think they are both the same size and length, and both are threaded on this particular model so either one would do. When you buy the kit, it also comes with new nuts to go on the bolts.
Anyone know the torque specs for the bolts and nuts? I have tried to find them on Google to no avail.
