    Your latest video on the trail Embers a year later has the comments turned off or I'd be commenting on that video. Strolled into a tractor supply on Saturday, had never been in one before and saw the trail Embers with no price on it so I asked the manager he said they are $300 but he had some units that the boxes got rained on and I could buy one of those for $200 so I bought it. I had no interest in getting a pellet smoker but for two hundred bucks I figured I couldn't go wrong. Watching this video and your latest video one year later has made me feel pretty good about my purchase and for that I thank you. Now I need to put this thing together. Hoping to get some help from my teenager but that's kind of like pulling teeth.

    I have two of these smokers… one at my lake house and the other at my residence. I have had them both 2.5 years and use them every weekend. These grills have performed great. No problems at all if you follow the instructions in the book. Very simple to use. I primarily smoke at low temp 225 or 250. I have cooked chicken at 375 and it worked great but it burned through the pellets quickly so I use my Weber charcoal grill to bbq chicken. I like the flame kiss flavor on my chicken. As the smoker goes you can’t find a better one anywhere.

    Just wanted to put in my two cents regarding this little pellet smoker. I've owned it for about three years now, bought it at Sam's Club. My plan was to dabble in the "pellet grill" phenomena with a cheap "disposable" grill and invest in a bigger, better quality one if I enjoyed it. Thing has been a champ from day one! Solidly built, smokes great, and very easy to use. Produces amazing baby back ribs, chicken, and of course briskets! Great value, and I don't see myself having to invest in any other pricier pellet grill.... thanks for your video! (Btw, I did make an extension for the hopper, which allowed for those long low and slow brisket cooks....)

  • @steve-o9720

    Have you tried smoking jerky on it? I've been in the market for a cheap smoker for the sole purpose of doing just that. I've mastered jerky a very traditional way of just doing super low and slow in a barrel type of smoker with chunk wood, but now I'm looking at something that I can just "set and forget". Can it hold a constant 180 degrees and not fluctuate? I'd love your input. Thanks!

  • @jorgem.5967

    @jorgem.5967

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@steve-o9720 Never tried making jerky on my pellet grill, I'm more of a smoked meat for social gathering guy. It should do ok for jerky. Btw, all pellet grills fluctuate, and this one fluctuates around 20 degrees off set temp. What is important to know is that these fluctuations are what cause the smoke! One of the down sides of PID controllers is that yes, they offer very little temp fluctuations, but because of that they do not provide as much smoke. My philosophy is that no matter what you use, learn the nuances of your grill! As I stated earlier, this little smoker is solidly built and will definitely produce some great meats.

    How did you go about building an extension?

  • @jorgem.5967

    @jorgem.5967

    Жыл бұрын

    @@lvrsvid Hey Tim, first thing I did was remove the grate found in the hopper (don't know what it's purpose is), then measured the length and width of the sides of the hopper. Once I knew the measurements, I made a prototype with thin sheets of wood. Once I was sure dimensions were correct I got some thin metal sheeting from Lowes and cut to size then folded on three sides and sealed the one side. By the way, the bottom edge will have to be bent in to "fit" into the hopper where they meet. The extension was 12" high by the way. As for a lid, I just put a square piece of sams sheeting on top. It has worked great for me so far....

    I picked one up four days ago, got home with the grill at 9 at night, along with a stack of one and a half inch ribeye steaks bone in, was cooking by 10, my wife said that was the best steak she's ever had, I have to agree, pork chops the second night, again really good and tonight some nice tender juicy chicken breasts, I love this set up. Looks like it is made to last at a decent price. Tomorrow I'm smoking beef ribs. We needed a new grill, I like charcoal, she likes gas, we met in the middle and got this one, she doesn't like how charcoal sometimes gets ash on your food and how it's easy to burn food on. She likes this setup.

    @@eddiemcclelland5787 hi, sorry for the delay in getting back with you. On smoke settings there are actual 4 settings by pushing the preset button. I usually use setting 2. It gets to around 175 to 180 on mine. The others a bit hotter but not much. I found that some pellets smoke more than others. For instance, when I first got the grill I used pit boss pellets they didn't smoke on the higher heat settings , on smoke settings they were great. Which is nice for baking things. Sometimes you don't want smoke. Then I bought some pellets from Rural King called Grillers Gold. Those things smoke nonstop. Great for real smoking. Other than that that is all the pellets I have used thus far. I have gone thru 8 bags so far. 4 of the pit boss bags and 4 of the grillers gold bags. Just buy a coue different brands and check results. The pit boss pellets ate great for the smoke settings and baking . The others are great for non stop smoke. Hope that helps. By the way , just a side note I did a briscut 2 weeks ago, 18 hour cook no hiccups at all. I made a cardboard chute to make the pellet hopoer hold more pellets.

    Great video. I'm an experienced griller with charcoal and gas, looking for something in between. Picked up a version of this and tried it out today for the initial burn. Followed all the instructions for starting, etc. There was a ton of smoke coming out all over and the flame seemed a way high and visible at the edges of the steel drip pan. Almost like the fan was giving it too much air. Is this normal? Something just on the initial burn in? Never used one before and wasn't sure what to expect turned it off and went looking for some informative videos! What do you think?
