Tragic triangle: Is Putin destroying Ukraine, Belarus and Russia? | To The Point

Russia’s attack on Ukraine has upended the lives of people throughout the region, driving a wedge between neighbors, friends and families.
As the war reached the six-month mark, Ukrainians commemorated their national holiday in fear, defiance, and sorrow over the absence of those who have departed. In neighboring Russia, repression has intensified -- can resistance survive? What about in Belarus, Putin’s trusted ally - some would say vassal? Dear DW editors, please make such conversations regular. We really need representatives of the tragic triangle to sit at the same table as often as possible so we could find the way back to peace and freedom. And it's a great idea to invite women and give them power to resolve all this because they know exactly how precious life is.

In Ukraine in 2014 the protests had been supported partially by some military and some policy authorities, as well as mass media and some politicians. The biggest protests In Russia in 2012 and in Belarus in 2020 were done only by simple people having no any support by military or police authorities. That's a core difference between of success in Ukraine and defeat in RU and BLR.

Protest works in free countries, not there where you can be in prison for a post in social media. In Ukraine there were opposition parties which supported Maidan in 2013, parliament members taking part in it, TV channels which covered the developments. There is none of this in Russia. The time for peaceful protests has gone here. We are now almost in Pyongyang.

The fact is the people began the protests in Ukraine & the rest came in to support. Both Ukraine & Belarus have underground movements/resistance where this has only just begun with some effect in Russia- ie; bombing of war-related businesses, infrastructure, recruiting centres and Ms. Dugin's car bomb. It's a start finally.

Unfortunately, they only want to hear what confirms their views, and any dissent is seen as disrespectful, so they fail strategically because they lack information and situational awareness. For example the Ukrainian people who spoke Russian, were not attacked vilified or discriminated against. Only the requirement for administration in the Ukrainian state be in the written Ukrainian language. So the whole pretext for war was incorrect. They were not liberating anyone, they destroyed little old ladies who spoke Russian. That can not end well.

Hello. I'm from Russia. You are unlikely to get objective information. Perhaps, looking through the French press, you will be able to find different points of view. In other media, there is moderation and broadcasting of one point of view. in this program, it seems that they show different points of view, but in fact it's all staged and biased. For example, a specialist on Russia talks about the closure of opposition publications that were closed. These opposition publications were closed after the law on fakes was passed in Russia. And these publications were just engaged in creating fakes)). The second opposition publication was funded by the state gas company. which has stopped funding. Yeah, it's a little weird. I said the same thing that two opposition publications were closed, as well as the presenter, but after my explanations, I think your opinion has changed a little. The recent interview of the Turkish president was moderated and not shown in full. You will be able to find his full interview only on Turkish state Internet pages. This program also talked about the dismissal of the Prosecutor of Ukraine. The Prosecutor of Ukraine was investigating Hunter Biden. The President of America told Zelensky if you want money, fire the prosecutor (there is a video about these words on the Internet.) This little episode shows who the government of Ukraine is subordinate to.

The panel really needed more time they didn't get a chance to properly answer the questions and that's why there was a bit of cutting each other off, well mostly Yekaterina she is used to having 2 hours to talk fully on her livestreams with a million viewers. She's a genius and a treasure and I love her but I feel the Belarussian woman was very frustrated from being repeatedly cut off by her but again it's not really her fault, there simply was not enough time for this panel discussion. They should have just done it off air in studio then uploaded it here on youtube so that the ladies could all fully elaborate on their answers and get a word in and the moderator would have been able to have enough time to direct the questions to specific people.

I think it's Eastern European mentality: inability to clearly and simply express one's point of view, inability to conversate, inability to communicate clearly, lack of assertiveness, inability to listen, the impulsive need to make a statement. Keep in mind, these nations are extremely traumatized, which means their people are emotionally disregulated aka emotionally immature, and this carries to EVERYBODY. this means they are very reactive, therefore, they react and not respond to situations or words. In a discussion that expresses itself as cutting each other off - despite having a positive, or negative, or neutral reaction. That's an Eastern European thing that still goes beyond these three nations. It's psychological, it's subconscious, it's part of the mentality. It takes a looking time for this to change!

@Bright Owl Well, you can't blame them for putting their own lives and their families' lives/freedom ahead of strangers in a foreign country. I can't imagine how much courage it takes just to hold up a protest sign in Moscow. Russia will pay a price, but it will be an economic one that will stretch out for many years. Putin has set back Russia's progress for a generation. And there are already tens of thousands of Russian families who have lost a son, brother, husband to this pointless/unjustified war.

It's sad to see all this suffering in these three countries (and others) because of one man's selfish desires. If Putin was removed perhaps there could be a chance for the people in these countries to live peacefully and free from his oppression but a lot of work would have to be done to remove the infrastructure that enabled someone like Putin to come to power before the next Putin would come along.

Again, it is clear that, Ukraine alone , fighting Russia is an impossible task if it will achieve full occupation of pre 2014 territory. My only piece of hope is the strategic foresight of western Governments and military, training Ukraine on the use of modern weapons and the deployment of these weapons to Ukraine gradually building up as the Russians get worn down and cold over coming winter.
