Trafalgar Law, the Donquixotes, and the Effects of Love

If there's anything unusual editing wise in this video, it's because I had a fever while making it, and I blame Doflamingo.

Law’s conversation with Sengoku is one of my favorite moments in Dressrosa because it adds a whole new level of tragedy to his character. All this time Law never knew he was loved, he’s been thinking Corazon only saved him for his name. And yet he still dedicated the rest of his life (as well as his crew name, Jolly Roger, and a bunch of tattoos) to honor Corazon. Imagine how starved for love that child must’ve been :(

Laws popularity in japan is no joke, i saw it first hand when i visited the One Piece Museum back in 2019 where it still existed. There was this bench with a life sized Law sitting on it, clearly made to be a photo spot where you can sit next to him. Whenever i walked past that bench, girls would just sit there and stare at him in awe, it was surreal.

Something I find worth mentioning is that Oda famously came up with the Worst Generation members in two days because he felt Sabaody needed something to make the arc more interesting. He also originally planned for Kid to become the foil for Luffy, but instead we got Law being a big part of Dressrosa. So the psycho doctor image is basically the first conception of Law and as stories are wont to do over time, the characters develop in ways you didn't foresee as you are writing them. I always thought this was a neat peak into the process of creating a story that you both have planned out and are fleshing out as you go :D

I like to think psycho doctor and serious planner are both parts of his personality, but he uses the former as a façade to intimidate enemies. You can see pre-TS serious Law at the end of Marineford when he just finishes operating on Luffy, he’s cold and straightforward when answering Iva and Hancock. Similarly you can still see post-TS psycho doctor Law in Punk Hazard when he interacts with Smoker and the marines, all creepy and smirky

Law is one of the most complex characters, and I firmly believe he is a good person who has been jaded, and probably one of the best examples of trauma manifestation in the series- and that makes those soft spots of his shine through so brightly. The way he surrounds himself with such bright people, is exceptionally loyal, and is so afraid of loss that he would rather fight satan by himself than lose a friend. To a degree, I think part of him has been shaped by the fear of loss, he has the same fear of being alone that luffy does but he handles it so differently because of his upbringing. Now I’m not one to think the heart pirates are weak, I think they have a lot of hidden potential- but a lot of people comment on how they appear to be less developed than some other crews, and I think that portrayal is a consequence of the way law pushes them intentionally away from conflict in an attempt to shield them. And it’s not because they are not strong or he doesn’t trust them, it’s that he doesn’t trust the world with them. That fear is so ingrained in his character that he even rides on a fucking submarine. Law is just as selfish and reckless as luffy js, they have a lot of similar characteristics, the biggest difference is he is afraid to risk other peoples lives. The strawhats are so strong because luffy is chaotic and his recklessness forces them to keep up with him- law is reckless but only with himself- and you can tell it drives the Hearts crazy sometimes. He did it when he sent them to Zou, he did it in the film stampede, he fucking ‘chaperoned’ Bepo in film red, he throws himself in danger for the strawhats at Green Bit, he gave himself up for torture in Wano, or how he literally told Zoro he would rather the plan fail than have any of them die. And while this honestly isn’t a super healthy dynamic, it is extremely endearing. His crew is his family and he feels the weight of that responsibility immensely- he’s the anti doflamingo, instead of using the people around him, he’s averse to it the point of overly endangering himself. If you want to put it on the transactional love terms you stated, it’s like he repays their loyalty to him by giving his body and soul in return. He’s been opening up a lot more since meeting luffy. He’s never been a fan of injustices and will intervene if he can so long as it won’t be too compromising, but he’s more compelled to act even if it’s inconvenient as the series progresses. And I think it’s because he’s becoming more used to accepting support himself, that if he chooses to fight for something he won’t be alone and it’s okay for people to fight with him if they want- which he’s known but probably not truly accepted emotionally. What I mean is, he will go out of his way only if he wants to, like luffy, because they aren’t heroes, but he becomes a lot more open about it after him. A good example is how on Dressrosa law tells him he should leave, and luffy asks him what will happen to the country if they leave now and they can’t. But on Zou the table has totally flipped, now it’s luffy who is being reckless and self centered, and it’s Law who points out that if they just bail or Zou could face the consequences, and there’s this cute little scene of the minks fawning over how considerate he is. That’s GROWTH. They are good at stepping up when the other falls short. Best Alies. 10/10. It’s like 2:30 am I have no idea if this is coherent, basically, I just love him. And his adorable grumpy cat attitude and pension for soft fluffy things.

There is a saying, he who commands, commands, even if he commands badly, is a common slogan in some Spanish-speaking countries to denote a bad leader who is impossible to get rid of. Donquixote and Rosinante are characters from Don Quixote de la mancha, the most popular Spanish-speaking book in history, the criticism of the society created by the ruling system present in Don Quixote, satire and the search for the idea of justice makes me think that Oda must have fallen in love with this book at some point.

I love Corazon but I'm not gonna lie I was always fascinated more by Doflamingo's "love" for Law and his quest to regain his control and his place in Law's life during the whole arc. Sure, he had a fruit he needed. And sure, he saw him as a tool. But does a tool who's going to die eventually needs executive seats in his crew? (He fucking CHAINED HIM to the seat he was saving for him, the seat of his brother, FOR TEN YEARS). A tool only needs to fulfill its function. Why would its feelings matter? Why should a tool need to aknowledge Doflamingo as his one and only benefactor? From Doflamingo's point of view, the little kid whose ressemblance with him he felt emotional about, who admired him and followed him everywhere, the kid he sat down with to teach him things and study some books, just came back. But he doesn't recognize the person Law has become and he tries to cling to the parts of the old him he recognizes. I think he was desperate for Law to keep ressembling him, because if he did and hated the world as much as he did, that meant Doflamingo's way of life and his actions (the murder of his father, the murder of his brother) were justified. He's not the one who's to blame, they're the ones who betrayed him. His anger (and Law's) is righteous and true. Law betrayed him in Dressrosa, but he couldn't kill him for plot reasons. So he was coping, badly. Still shot him in anger, many times. The whole arc, Doflamingo was essentially battling for custody of a grown adult with his dead brother. Kinda like a crazy, abusive divorced mom. It was sad to see. Law is certainly the product of both Doflamingo and Corazon's influence, but the only will he's gonna inherit is Corazon's.

Doflamingo isn't chaotic evil, he's as lawful evil as you can get, he wants rules, structure, balance, but only so long as he's in control over it. Chaotic Evil is much more about the concept of might-makes-right, Doflamingo is fine not being the strongest, so long as he controls the system. Kaido is chaotic evil, Blackbeard is chaotic evil. No, no, no, he's Neutral Evil. His most famous quote reflects on that. "Pirates are evil? Marines are good? Those saying changes many times like a tide!" This shows he doesn't care whether it's good or evil. "Justice will prevail? Of course it is, whoever prevails becomes justice!" See this saying? That's not lawful, that's radical and even anarchical. Doffy is NOT LAWFUL EVIL. If he's lawful evil, he will be like Akainu/Sakazuki, he did everything in his name to uphold 'the law' even if it means killing innocent civilians. Doffy? He doesn't care about law. He's neutral. Because not choosing of being lawful or not is already neutral but not in a good way. That's why he's neutral evil.

@@arthurmorgan2887being lawful doesn't mean "follows the law", it means "follows a strict code". It can be the law, or it can be your own personal code of conduct. Example: a pirate does terrible things, but has the personal code " don't hurt kids". If he's lawful, he follows that to a T. Will not hurt children even if that made his life and journey easier. Doflamingo doesn't care about the law itself, but he does care about creating a structured world where he leads and dictates as a ruler (after destroying those that wronged him).

Law's case is fascinating as he seems to struggle with accepting his innate kindness. Sure he did dirty to other pirates and wouldn't save someone if it ruins his plans (ie. poisoned kids in PH) but if it doesn't hurt, he'd rather save someone than not. He says lots of bullshit ("let them kill you but don't screw up the plan") but he can't live up to it when tested ("I'd rather abandon the plan than have one of us killed"). He doesn't like to injure others, his crew is full of random fellas who were probably saved by him not based on their potential but simply on a whim as he's a doctor (it's canon that he saved Shachi and Penguin from severe injuries and Bepo from being bullied. And, mind it, they may have become pretty strong now in a team performance but I doubt they hit any marks at al when Law recruited them. Compare Kidd or Luffy's crews for example). Rather than Law giving love on condition, he seems the type who saves people for no reason but he forces a condition on it afterwards (because "benevolent piracy makes him sick"). Corazon's sacrifice was massive for him to comprehend (literally abandoned everything for an unknown I'll-mannered brat who came in terms with his shortened life) and Law has not shown a sympathy to such extent to anyone. Law follows own set of morales and, as you said, he must've avenged Doflamingo to pay a debt. That's why Sengoku's words hit him, a much needed assurance that he truly needed to hear. Perhaps his experience with Luffy was an eye opener on this matter.

Theres a line in the english anime that I love: When Ivankov asked Law why he saved Luffy after Marineford, Law says he doesn't have a reason, or at least not an easy one to explain. Ivankov says don't bother, "Lets just say your heart lead you to help Strawhat boy." And it makes one thnk of Corazon continuing to lead Law to those who will help and change him, even from beyond the grave. as far as future videos? Id love to see your thoughts on CP9, including the cover stories (if you're willing) and their re-emergence in the current arcs.

As for the science behind the differences between Doflamingo and Corason or Law: children can be born with some genes predisposing to psychopathy, but if their environment when they grow up is good, they develop as normal people nonetheless. But the more trauma they experience, the more likely they are to become psychopaths. Doffy had heaps of trauma, starting at birth with lack of reasonable boundries which came with being a celestial dragon, which could trigger his predisposition. Sad part is that many of those children had a chance at normal life if only their environment had been optimal. I don't know if that's what Oda had in mind though :)

Doffy however does not show many of those genetic traits towards paycopathy, other than narcissim, and maybe cetain struggle for empathy, at most. And we don't know how many of these traits are genetic or just due to the context he was brought up in. Psycopathic kids are semi "easy" to spot, for they usually expereince emotions in a very supericial level, if anything at all, they don't show fear, happyness nor rage, they are also very difficult to entertain, have extremelly low or complete lack of empathy, and it is difficult (more like impossible) for them to create emotional ties with anybody else, not even their own parents. Tbh, Doflamingo is almost the opposite of a psycopath, if anything, he became a sociopath, difference being that it was the context what turned him into what he is right now. There might be some genetic predisposition to show narcissist behaviour, which is certainly included within the anti-social behaviour tendencies, but being a psycopath is more than just being narcissistic, and with all the range of emotions we see Doffy show as a kid he doesn't seem spycopathic at all. He does develop some psycopathic traits later on, but he certainly didn't have them as a kid., and even in his adulthood he is still able to feel strongly, it is just that he only seems to feel the "bad" emotions, while the "good" ones are superficial and bleak. Actually, sociopaths, those who are not born psycopaths nor necessarily have any genetic predisposition towards psycopathy, are known for their superficial emotions, but for those of rage and hatred. So Doffy doesn't show any clear traits of psycopathy, he could be genetic predispose towards it, he could be not , there's no way to tell, what is clear is that he wasn't born a psycopath, he was turned into one. And do not fool yourselves, born psychopaths can have a normal functioning life, but their feelings are fake, no matter how much of a good childhood they had, they can't do anything about that, they were just born with the innability to feeel, or feel deeply, at least, (of course, there are different degrees of psychopathy) they are just so good at faking emotions. Doffy doesn't fake shit, it is obvious he's in rage 24/7. Rob Lucci or Borsalino are way more psychopathic than Doffy is, as in the actual classic meaning of psycopath, Lucci even shows some sadistic behaviour, I seriously think was he not working for the Marines and whithin the system he would be a serial killer.

In my oppinion it was the Tenryubito society that raised Doffy to be a monster. And later on Trebol VALIDATED those superiority feeling Doffy had and supported him in that path. As a child. Wich mens he never had to get out of his mental confort zone ever again, and so he kept being like that. Of course he had more of a tendency tha Corazón to do evil. But just like in our world, a psycho can become a murderer or a surgeon, and both are born the same. Corazón was clearly not a psycho and Doffy was, but still having those tendecies he would ha e become a decent human if he had someone good in his life.

I agree with almost everything, but I disagree with everyone calling Doffy a psychopath. Maybe it is just that most people don't truly know what psychopathy stands for. Doffy as a kid doesn't show any traits towards psychopathy other than narcissism, and we do not know to what extent that was context induced. Psychopaths, if murderers (they have a sadistic personality), only seek pleasure in the suffering of others (we do not see that in Doffy, he doesn't seem to have saddistic tendecies as a kid, maybe he had them, but we don't see them), if surgeons, they're still psychopaths, can't feel a thing (they may act within "goodness", but they really can't feel a thing nor feel empathy nor love for others, you wont' see them scared shitless either, nor in range, if anything, they may show mild annoyance). Doffy is in rage 24/7, we see him cry, we see him laugh, we see him rage, we see him hate, that's no psychopath. Sociopath is a better term, he wasn't born, he was made. Sociopaths, though very similar to psychopaths, are able to feel, just very superficially, and the only emotions they may feel strongly about are usually the bad ones (rage, you recognise them because they do feel rage/hatred quite often), they lack empathy but can form superficial emotional bonds with a very reduced group of people (maybe two or three, psycopaths cannot, they just fake it), feel no remorse but some may feel guilt (as they know what they did was wrong and may even wish they hadn't had to do it but think it was necessaary and they were right on doing it, always justifying themselves and their actions, or pinning them into others; psychopaths will only blame you for their own actions if they get a gain out of it, if by doing that they are manipulating you into doing something else they want you to do, not because they feel they did something wrong or feel bad about it and want to distance themselves from the responsability of their actions or the act itself, they feel no need to justify themselves nor their actions at all). Psychopaths can be functional memebers of society (in fact, more so tha sociopaths), but they're still psycopaths (in fact, the overwhelming majority of them are indeed functional memebers of our society), but Doffy is no psychopath, although he is very possibly quite close to what we could consider a sociopath, this is, a aperson who turned very psychopathic-like, but not quite, due to his upbringing and life expereinces at a young age. They share most of their personality traits with psycopaths the difference being they're still able to feel, and they were not born that way (imagine a normal person to be like a cristal window, a psycopath would be a window completely covered on black paint, you can't see through it, a sociopath analogy would be close to that of a very dark tainted window, their emotions are filtered, hence superficial, the brain decides to filter them for survival purposes, what they distinguish the best are the darkest shadows that darken the light getting through., and so the only strong emotions they feel are the negative and explosive/intense ones, again, most sociopaths are "easily" recognised for they show high levels of rage, and Doffy is so in rage all the time he has no option but laugh through it, he even admitts that much to Law when he says he's smiling because he is so enraged at the moment he doesn't know what else to do, he just has no other way to exteriorise all that anger, too much for his brain to compute). Sorry for the long comment, I just don't see Doffy as a psychopath at all, sure he may have certain genetic predisposition towards psychopathic traits (narcissism, low levels of empathy), but we do not know to what extent those traits are genetic predisposition or context induced, as he was raised as a celestial dragon, so... And he was certainly not born a psychopath, again, maybe he was indeed born with certain predisposition to SOME psychopathic traits, but just maybe, we can't know for sure, and narcisissim and low empathy levels alone do not make a psychopath, unable to feel anything but on a very superficial level if at all is key on psychopaths, and that's a trait Doffy certainly does not share.

Yeah you got that right, Law was the rope in the tug of war between DoFlamingo and Rosinante, I believe Corazon came in so personal because he was seeing first hand how his brother was making Law a carbon copy of himself (plus servitude), and took upon the duty to free him from this fate, he saw Doffy's begginings first hand so yeah he did his best...except it was a bit late since Doffy's psyche had already took root to an extent, so at the end, Law became the middle way between both brothers, even the 'smile virus' jolly roger he bears, it honors Rosinante, but it 's just way too similar to Doffy's symbol, a complicated affair for sure.

'It's very possible any form of love in general doesn't exist within Doffy at all.' That's tricky. Because while I do know that the majority for why he has the Donquixote Family is to use them, I do also believe there's a shred of truth to it. When you get down to it, Doffy has lost all faith in blood relations. He felt betrayed by both his father and brother. And so he surrounded himself with unquestioningly loyal people. Sure this is to use them, but it also gives him a kind of security that he never really had before. The scene where he makes a big speech about how no one is allowed to laugh at his family is one thing. It could still be for the purposes of manipulation, but I also think there's a non-zero chance that he believe it himself. Perhaps as a pride thing, that he wouldn't allow his choice of people to have in a family to be mocked. When you get right down to it, the Donquixote Family is a huge bunch of weirdos. Pica's voice, Jora's art, Senor Pink's clothes, all things that are easy to make fun of, and yet it's things he wouldn't allow to be talked down on. On top of all that, he's also very lenient with them and forgives mistakes, which doesn't fully lean into them just being useful. But you can still ultimately see this as very deep manipulation. Where manipulation truly doesn't fit is with Monet. He obviously asked her to sacrifice herself for him, but unlike so many other villains who expect their subordinates to die for them, he doesn't take pleasure in it, doesn't yell at her or laugh. He's even shocked to hear that she was already going to sacrifice herself without him asking. The kicker for me is him going to Punk Hazard himself afterwards. It's shown by the reaction of the other family members that it was a spur of the moment thing that he didn't tell anyone else about. It felt like him taking things more personally. Plus when Jora was being held hostage, he knew Law wouldn't kill her, and so gave her a chance to escape instead of just attacking outfight with her in the way. I always felt there was one good way of describing Doffy's opinion on his family, and that's comparing him to Crocodile. With Crocodile, he expects to be betrayed, but will not forgive failure. With Doflamingo, he will forgive failure, but does not expect to be betrayed. In the end I admit I could really just be grasping at straws here, but I think it makes Doffy an even better character in the idea he can only find some humanity left in him through a connection with people who aren't blood related to him, even if that can ultimately become a means to an end. Maybe I just have a bit of a bias.

I don't know if you read his novel, but actually the man who takes care of law after he runs away from doflamingo, Wolf, actually says to law that he can live with him but in return he has to help him with taking care his harvest, “There's really no reason. I simply allow them to live with me in exchange for help me. It's just a matter of give and take.”, this is where law must have learned the "must give to recieve" you talk about, great analysis of his character!

Me when I was first introduced to Law in the anime: Oh, that's the guy that the fandom loves. I wonder if I'll love him too. Me now, having recently finished Dressrosa: Law is my precious most special boy and if anything were to happen to him, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself. Excellent analysis. Got me emotional over Law's character and story all over again (which admittedly isn't hard to do... but I thought you organized and presented your thoughts very effectively).

this is a few months late but another thing to mention is cora-san saying 愛してるぜ which is the purest and strongest declaration of love you can give and that the ope ope no mi is in the shape of a heart that cora-san gives law. law quite literally is made up of cora-san's love.

I think Doflamingo genuinely loved his father, his brother and Law. This was realized better in the manga bc it doesn't have anime's exaggerated, prolonged anime-original quotes and scenes. Some details to highlight on: -Even though Corazon was highly suspected of betrayal, Doffy readily accepted him in his family and gave him a position. -Doffy STUDIED flevance's history after Law's arrival. Everyone Law met until that point abandoned and called him a monster. Doffy was the first person to say his disease isn't contagious. - Doflamingo hated the idea of having to kill his brother. He says he'd forgive Law after killing him as he did with Corazon and his father. -The quote "Your freedom/motivations was never yours, it was always mine" is anime-only. Doffy is betrayed so often that he can't stand it. He was betrayed by his father who took him away from a safe home, his brother who backstabbed him as a spy. This, along with his noble upbringing made him very selective of people he gives his love to. Doflamingo would love and protect these people but he'll severely punish them if he's betrayed. After the punishment, he'll "forgive" them. Doffy saves young, broken children (Law, Sugar and Monet, Baby 5) based on the potential he sees in them. Once they meet his conditions, they become Doflamingo's family. Everyone else are Doffy's playthings including the useless pool of subordinates (not his "family") ie Bellamy, he gives them the typical "Celestial Dragon" treatment. Point to note that the "broken" children Doffy saved are poor and filthy, not selected based on nobility. This comes from Doffy's life experience that any other Celestial dragon doesn't have, it proves the impact Doffy's experience has in his personality. Doflamingo's earlier behavior and his hate towards civilians is easy to understand, he's no Corazon, but he's not a monster for hating the civilians. What if there was ONE civilian who gave him heartfelt, unconditional love? What if Doffy had that one person Law had in his life that is Corazon? What if Corazon's love for law was partly from the wish of wanting to save his young, broken older brother that shaped him into an irredeemable monster? I'm sure Doffy would've been slightly different from he is now. Tldr: Doflamingo has natural sadistic tendencies but he's not a monster who can't love, and imo it's possible that he would've been a different person if he received unconditional love from someone who didn't betray his expectations.

This is such a great analysis and I agree with you, however- even if I don't think Doffy is incapable of love *in his own way*, I don't think he'd be a different person if he's shown "love that meets his expectations"? The donquixote family are pretty much have been undoubtedly loving him while also meeting his standard-- the problem is his standard is "someone who's willing to die for him", not unconditional love. I love doflamingo but he definitely has fcked up view on the world and I think that's what makes him a fantastic character x"D

I never thought about the various positions and sounds Law goes through until Melon pointed them out. And uh, yeah, they are pretty spicy now that I think about it. If anything Melon's videos have definitely opened my to the idea that Oda isn't only giving men fanservice, but everyone fanservice. We got Zoro who ends up shirtless at some point, Sanji who knows how to spread it, Law and his various everything, and Katakuri with his mochi everything.

6:01 I swear on my life it's absolutely that fucking coat. The pretimeskip fit said "Greasy weasel man", THIS fit is worthy of a man called "The Surgeon of Death". It fits him nice, it's not too busy and keeps up the energy of "what's his deal?" by not drawing too much attention and keeping your eyes on his face and his long sword.

Man, I cried. What a great explanation of Law's character and what build him the way he is! Law's character is about heart, Rosinante could love you unconditionally so was doing his father Homing to both of his sons. Love, Heart - those are the main themes you're so right on this. Also the thing I find very interesting a lot of people missed: Oda made a point in the story that Doflamingo has a "Heart curse" and the Heart (in a form of a Heart Seat as a metaphor) keeps getting away from him. Rosinante didn't get to sit on that seat for long and I don't think he'd ever truly accepted being a Heart for Doffy, the monster. Then Doflamingo kept the Heart seat empty waiting for Law to return and take it. Law refused. So the Heart "slipped away" from Doffy again. I think the point with Doffy and the heart theme Oda was making is that Doflamingo wants for that empty heart spot to be filled and for it stop cursing him but at the same time Doffy is the one who's killed the Heart: his father who gave him unconditional love, his kind-hearted brother, and the last but not least - Law. Law was about to die by Doflamingo's hand as well. Speaking about Law: YES! he is an ultimate babygirl and needs to be protected at all cost as Corazon wished. So let's do that. Let's honor Rosi by keep loving Law. (p.s. the scene when Sengoku finally drove the thought home for Law and explained that he shouldn't look for a reason of the love he received is one of my favorites in One Piece too. And then Sengoku hit it even harder by following with if Law truly wants to do something for Rosinante then live freely and keep him in his memory, that should be enough. THAT moment made me tear up. Law was so driven by hatred he was ready to throw away the life Rosinante gave away everything to protect and he also seemed to misinterpret Rosinante's simple wish at the end for Law to remember him (always smiling). Can't do that if you got yourself killed because revenge, can't you? And Law absolutely CAN'T die NOW because how's he going to keep Rosinante's wish otherwise :')

I may have only caught up very recently, and binged it over an incredibly short period of time as well (I read it in like two and a half weeks and chapter 1068 was the first I was caught up for the release of) but I think one pieces themes of love and friendship will make it stick with me for a long time to come, even after it ends in a few years. A common theme among my favorite stories is breaking past cycles of hatred and trauma, and building a better future with love and friendship and kindness and hope. And one piece is maybe the best use of these themes, in no small part due to having over 1000 chapters to explore them. And even among that vast story Law’s comparatively small tale is one of the best. I can’t put into words how truly beautiful one piece as a story is and how much it’s struck me, but I can say thank you for talking about it. And as a side note I find it truly hilarious how even in Wano law is still a fundamentally good person even if he does not want to admit it even to himself. He really wants to be a brooding evil pirate and nothing in his life from Corazon to Luffy will let him.

The way you analyze also gives a new level of irony to law giving his heart to Caesar, a subordinates of doflomingo and a toxic dude. Also how law's devil fruit literally has the ability to take people's hearts. Also his devil fruit is reflective of doflomingo's manipulation. Being able to control things in a space.

His devil fruit being able to switch parts of people made me realize how despite his ability to reconstruct someone, his inner self was built and further solidified throughout his story? I'm not sure if this makes sense but I just adore him and his story :)

  • @derpymule7977

One thing I feel is important to point out: yes, Doflamingo was clearly a troubled kid. His actions cannot be blamed entirely on his childhood experiences, and his inherent anger is clear throughout his backstory. However, he was definitively *not* somehow “destined” to become who he did. His inherent issues were not impossible to address, and with support from someone who truly understood him he could have become a genuinely good person. Instead his support made up of the self-serving Celestial Dragons, the power-hungry Trebol, his brother who saw him as a monster, and his dad who, while he did love him, was a fool who could never truly understand his son to try to help him. I say this is important because it does parallel real world issues. There are plenty of people who are seen as “inherently evil”, and while that is true in a sense in that they could in theory become evil in a situation with no intervention, positive or negative, there is no person who cannot be helped. Even the worst, most psychopathic, emotionless monsters could have turned out differently had someone seen what was happening and tried to help.
