Traditional Scottish Food in Inverness, Scotland

As we started on the North Coast 500, we enjoyed some time in Inverness. We stayed at Shamerbrea and had dinner at the Cleikum Social Eating Club with Karen, our AirBnB host. Karin is a member of the Slow Food Movement and has been a host for them for three years. Following the principles of Slow Food, everything we ate was in season, followed traditional recipes, and sustainable. Karen even foraged for our chanterelle mushrooms earlier that day. A cleikum is a Scottish tradition of offering a social eating experience surrounded by good people and exceptional food. Karen certainly provided all of that in the comfort of her home. We were also renting out two rooms in her house, so the entire experience felt like we were staying with a friend. And by the time we left, that's exactly how it was. We enjoyed the dinner and the breakfast, which included the foraged mushrooms on soda bread, haggis meatballs, a beef cooked in bacon, onions, garlic and red wine and finished with a Tipsy Laird dessert. For breakfast we had homemade porridge, fresh fruit smoothies, eggs, stuffed portobello mushrooms, black pudding, and avocado toast. The food was magnificent, but the company was even better. Jonathan enjoyed talking history, genealogy, and culture while we planned our time in the Scottish Highlands.

Jenn does all our bookings and when she found the lodging and noted that the host also offered the food experience, she was sure it was the same one she’d tried to book last year. How fortunate that Karin had space while we were in Inverness because it really was perfect to be able to linger over the meal and really enjoy ourselves before rolling into bed.

Slow food- I try to keep to that too. There's nothing like home cooked meals using fresh ingredients. Thanks fir this gem of a video. Nove to see you again. I'm in Australia at the moment, Take care. 🇳🇱🙋‍♀🇳🇿🦘

I hope you’re having a beautiful time with family down there. Can’t wait to see your videos. Karen was just terrific. As we’re making our summer plans, we’re trying to find a way to fit in another visit (and meal!) with her.

@@welltravelledlife I've put up a few shorts. As I'm here only two weeks and more at home than out, there will be videos of some outings - though not like a tourist would 🤣🤣🤣🤣!

We are probably missing some things. We’re learning. We appreciate that you’re trying to help. But leaving comments about what we’re doing wrong so that we’ll hire you to make it better is not going to make us want to do business with you.

Because it’s an AirBnB Experience, the meals were at an extra cost. We should have mentioned that. But let me tell you - worth every penny!!
