Irina, Kurt is saying two words close together in the song. "Memory ahh". I once heard Kurt asked about the lyrics of this song and he said that he came up with the guitar track first and just put words in to flesh it out a little. He said sometimes songs aren't supposed to make sense, they're just supposed to make you feel. This song is the first song I play on any new stereo I buy. I love the way it sounds and the way it makes me feel.

Being born in ‘95 I never got big into grunge, but the impact that Nirvana had on music, not just in America but everywhere in the English speaking world is absolutely undeniable. I think for a lot of Americans, looking back on Nirvana and grunge in general feels almost like a fever dream. It didn’t last long but it was incredible and bizarre and profound.

Nirvana approach made a positive shift in the rock history, the "Grunge" era, and in the process pulled off many "hair" bands, with this more heavier and punchy sound, guitar, bass and drums as the early roots, the fundamentals, bringing back all those energy from late 60's-early 70's pure rock sound. You`re in the right path, gettin`into rock'n roll scene and history, thanks for that.

Long time fan of you and Nirvana. This is the first song I learned on guitar. Even Kurt Cobain admitted most of his songs didn't make sense he just said the words rhymed with the rhythm. Every song doesn't have to have meaning behind it.

So nice to see you reacting to music again! I didn't think much of grunge at the time. Listening to this song now, 31 years later, I appreciate it. As you may know, Kurt Cobain was a heroin addict who committed suicide 2 years after this song was released. He was 27.

2:34 Memoria is Latin for Memory. But Kurt sang this part more like "memoryyyuh" to better fit with the lullaby or whimsical aspect to the backing instruments and "floaty" feeling of the song at that point. Think of the "uh" at the end of the long drawn-out "Y" (eee) sound as a stopping point for the melodically drawn-out word "Memory". An example would be James Hetfield in the Metalica's Enter Sandman where he sings "Yeah Yeahuh" around 4 minutes 30 seconds into it.

Irina great reaction. Glad you like Nirvana and some grunge music genre. A common criticism of Kurt, grunge, and rock music in general is the vocalist often mumble. That is they don’t clearly enunciate the words. If you enjoy Nirvana and some other rock bands from 30 years ago you might try looking them up in a special setting more popular back then. it was called MTV Unplugged and is live acoustic versions of their popular songs in front of a small crowd. Хорошо. Спасибо большое.

The song is about people being themselves and not putting on a fake persona. Thus the title of the song Come As You Are not someone else. Some say the line I don't have a gun was pertaining to his thoughts of suicde.Which he shot himself with a gunshot to the head.

For a short period of time MTV showed the video for Smells Like Teen Spirit with the lyrics at the bottom of the screen, and Kurt was livid! But it did answer a number of our questions. The rest of the songs were easier to figure out. In Utero came with the lyrics printed on the inlay card.

Some albums would come with a lyrics booklet. I can't remember if my cassette copy of Nevermind came with one or not. I do know my friend's CD copy came with the lyrics. That's how I learned Smells Like Teen Spirit and became more confused by the song than before knowing all the words.

Kurt was high during the making of this video. The water effects obscuring his face were used to hide how bad he looked. I recall director Kevin Kerslake saying that Kurt was so out of it he was terrified he would fall off the chandelier.

Fun review as always! About Nirvana, they were talented&made some good music, but singer Kurt was not a good guy in my opinion. Axl Rose and the Guns&Roses band reached out to Kurt to be friendly. Kurt was mean to Axl. It's sad Kurt took his own life, but he's like M&M to me. A no class mean snob.

How can someone don't understand rock music? unless you miss something in the lyrics, i at a certain point understand, but even there, you can search online for them, now, someone saying i "don't" like rock, i got it, saying i don't "understand" rock, makes 0 sense.."unless you're talking about not knowing english" but if so, you should express yourself better...

Music from about the mid 80s to early 90s became extremely, extremely commercial. Every artist sounded the same. Every song followed the same pattern. Every album adhered to the same formula. You could listen to top 40 radio and be unable to distinguish between one artist and the next. Then suddenly into this ocean of numbness there appeared Nirvana. It wasn't that they were legendarily good or anything. They were actually meh. But they were different and that was the point. They didn't sound and look like all the sea of commercialized wankers we had been subjected to for years. Listening to them today is purely about nostalgia, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
