Case is a knife you should always buy in a store, you can find good ones but you better look before you buy. About 100% sure that Case is super used that got sent back and re-sold.

I agree with some of your criticisms of Case knives, but not entirely. You gotta remember the black handled one is a $30 knife. If they didn't have all of the problems that you pointed out they would be just as expensive and hard to get as GEC knives. Some of what you pointed out is inexcusable though. The rust and gunk along with the uneven grinds shouldn't be happening.

The knives like the Sebenza, 940, etc are what I would call Classics. To me, the word Traditional in knives is very similar to how it applies to music. Like take the bluegrass songbook for instance: everyone knows the same songs, and your job as a bluegrass musician is to play it as well as you can. So musicians who have never met each other can get on stage (or a porch) and play together, because they are coming from the same place. That’s a Tradition. Similarly the traditional knives are based off of patterns. No one has a copyright on the designs, and companies that make traditional knives strive to make the best version of a Trapper, Whittler, Canoe, etc. In the world of modern knives, if someone makes a blade that shares some apparent similarities to a 940 or a Sebenza, half the knife community freaks out about it being a clone or a rip-off, “you stole that design!” As tried-and-true as those designs are at this point, that’s kinda the opposite of the Traditional mindset. Just my two cents. Thanks for the video, and thanks for throwing some shade on Case 😂

Man, those Case knives are poor quality. The prices are good and I am very interested to see how they shape up. Here in Spain, I haven't even seen a GEC knife (or a Sebenza) as we'd have to stump up a fortune to buy one. I have a Case Medium Stockman in CV steel. It's much better than those knives you have. The blades scratch against each other, but that's acceptable in a Stockman. Case still enjoys a good reputation over here, although the word coming out of the US is that their quality and fit and finish are very dodgy. I am pleased to see you giving some wally to traditional knives. In the UK the law stipulates only non-locking knives.

GEC is awesome but the lack of any of em is ridiculous and frankly Im not supporting em. Im happy however with Case to be honest. Ive not had an issue frankly and Ive never heard of issues till recently. Hopefully they fix that however. GEC are definitely the best of the best traditional knives but them having zero inventory is ludicrous for the fact they can never meet demands. My case trapper has served well for work, as well as my buck, and Old Timer. No doubt I will notice the GEC will work better but until they can meet any demand that isn’t supplying $300 overpriced ebay sellers, Im good with what I got. Their reputation to me seems based more on hype frankly. As you say, its hard to recommend a knife you literally can’t get anywhere, until you succumb to scalpers on the bay...

Now are those Sodbusters, or Sodbuster Jr.s? It makes a difference. Personally I've had several Case Sodbusters, and Sodbuster Jr.s, and the Sodbuster is an easier handle with a more functional length on the blade. The Jr, while being nearly identical in design gets lost in my hands because it's smaller. You ought to be testing the Sr. The Jr. Is the line they run for cheap collectible value.

When I was growing up in the 1980s, it was common for knives not to be centered, the back had spaces, but if function properly, that's the point of the knife.
