Traditional Horse Herding in Pin Valley/Spiti | Story of Todnam - 5/6
The Chamurti is a small mountain pony almost exclusively found in Pin Valley. Also known as the Spiti Pony, it is one of the 6 recognised horse breeds of India. What makes the Chamurti special is that it is one of the few natural “pacers” in the horse world. It trots side to side on its laterals rather than diagonals enabling the rider to sit comfortably for hours at a time.
Almost every family in Pin Valley is involved in the Chamurti business. The villagers work together as a community to raise these horses in typical Pin valley fashion.

Personally, I feel that places such as Todnam should remain pure and untouched by tourism. But the villagers feel otherwise and feel left out of the tourism boom that places like Mudh experience. It is not really my place to stand in the way of their aspirations.

Wonderful. Very informative. I hope the Indian army uses these horses and also provide employment to the trainers ... they are as fit as the horses and can be a great addition to high altitude division of the army for training horses to do patrols, high altitude logistics, medic evac etc.

I think it would be more helpful to him if you see the advertisement rather than skip it. I think youtube ad revenue works based on the number of ads watched as well as ads clicked.

These videos have limited appeal. Even for the run of the mill travellers. So im not surprised that the channel hasn't taken off like I hoped it will. Also I need to keep working on the quality of my videos and make them more engaging. Even this video, I uploaded 2 versions of it as I felt that the first version dragged a bit too long. I need to avoid such mistakes and get it right the first time.

Recycle? It is too much to except these small villages to recycle their waste when even the bigger towns and cities don't have that facility. But anyway, these non-touristy villages don't generate much waste. And most of their plastic waste is usually burnt.

I had seen so much plastic in himachal and remote spots and personally spoken to villagers to stop tourists from bringing plastic. One more question I m very curious to know about UFO stories of Ladakh, have you heard of any such stories in your travels?
