When you go to New York, diving into its diverse food culture is a must. Pretty much the entire world is at your fingertips there! And as someone who loves Mediterranean cuisine, I had to go out and get a taste of the incredible Greek food scene in Astoria, Queens in NYC!
Joining me on my adventure is my Greek brother Tasos. We had a lot of food to eat and I’d need some help with it!
👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH: teespring.com/stores/davids-b...
Astoria is the largest Greek community in New York City and it really feels like a piece of Greece in the middle of the city! The people there speak Greek. In fact, when you visit, you may not hear many people speaking English at all!
We started at Taverna Kyclades, which are named after a group of Greek islands. There, we’d eat lots of seafood. The restaurant immediately reminded me of my time in Santorini. There was so much seafood cooking in the kitchen, from clams to shrimp to fish.
They even removed the bones from the fish! They also made spanakopita, octopus, fried calamari, stuffed fish filets, swordfish kebabs, and some hard Greek bread.
At our table, we started with some ouzo. I loved the anise flavor! Then, we jumped on the grilled octopus, stuffed clams, red snapper, fried calamari, and Greek salad. First was the snapper, which we added lemon to.
It was light, oily, fresh, and citrusy, and melted in my mouth! We both felt like we were back in Greece! Next was my favorite, the octopus! It was full of oregano and had an amazing meaty texture. The stuffed clams were briny and stuffed with bread and so flavorful!
I loved the block of feta in the Greek salad, the crunchiness of the fired calamari, and the sweetness of the sweet potato. Everything was so fresh! Then, we finished with some galaktoboureko, which is a custard dessert with cinnamon and a flaky crust, and some perfectly balanced baklava!
Next, we walked through the neighborhood, past townhouses and brownstones got some freddo espresso (Greek coffee) at a convenience store. Greece has a huge coffee culture. It was so strong and frothy!
Then, we stopped at Titan Foods, which is a Greek market, where we saw spanakopita, phyllo dough, authentic Greek yogurt and beers, feta, tzatziki, fresh herbs, sweets, dolmas, chocolate, and more. At the counter in the back, they let me try some amazing feta from Arahova. It was crumbly and a little salty!
After that, we walked to King Souvlaki, a food truck where they serve traditional souvlaki! In their kitchen, they made me a gyro with pita, French fries, feta, pork, and a Greek salad! It had been a while since we’d both had one.
I loved the creamy sauce and the crispy French fries in it. It’s not Greek without the fries! The fresh pork, lamb, and Greek salad next to them were heavenly! The creamy cheese I couldn’t get enough of them. Then, we finished up with some Loux, which is a Greek fruit juice!
For our final place, we headed to Bahari Estiatorio, where we got a Greek salad and bouyiourdi, a dish that contains feta, tomatoes, and peppers with oregano. It’s cooked on a skillet. We also had gigantes beans, lamb chops, and pastitsio.
The lamb chops were so juicy and tender, and the gigantes beans were melt-in-your-mouth delicious! They were like big fava beans. The pastitsio contained penne pasta and meat and is similar to lasagna. The thin penne pasta was the best!
What an amazing Greek food tour in Astoria, Queens in NYC!

I'm Indian but I love Mediterranean food, it's not spicy but flavorful and delicious, when my mom went to Greece with her church she loved the food there!!
This is one of the great reasons to live in NY. We get to travel the world in our ethnic neighborhoods. I love real Greek food and Astoria is the place to go. Galaktoboureko is a slice of Heaven! 😊

Astoria native here and Greek American. The food choices in this video are great. I've had just about all of the foods from these places shown here. It's the stuff. The food, the locations, the sounds. All classic Greek Astoria. There are tons of food options here too that are not Greek. Great place to visit for foodies!
Yo! So great to hang out with you in the greatest city on earth 🗽🌎 Hadn't had Greek food in ages!🍴🇬🇷 This was a blast!
There is NOTHING better than Greek food !!!! It's the BEST !!!
Fantastic job showing off the Greek culture of Astoria.
That was an awesome video. I had no idea about the Greek food and culture in New York City. We can’t wait to visit :-)
Greek food is always a great idea! 💪🏻
Love the Greeks......been there delicious
To those fellow Indians saying they love only Indian food and dont want to see other food blah blah. Learn to appreciate videos of other country's cuisines as well. Drop the arrogance and be known that there exist other countries other than your own.

Astoria is one of the best neighborhoods. Amazing food. Thats one of the best places! Lived in Astoria for 6 years. Loved it!
Greece is everywhere💖
A successful dinner is one that lasts a while and one where everyone leaves happy. It's a meal where we didn't just wolf food down, rather something else happened at the table. That is the goal. Love from Korea 🇰🇷💕

David you really enjoyed the Greek food. Amazing

I lived in Astoria back in 1980,Crescent St and Broadway...Christopher Walken parents owned the best bakery in Astoria back then, their apple strudel was the best in NYC...There were also some great Italian restaurants...
Wow! Tasos is very handsome and talented, I’m a new fan!
Another enjoyable episode. Two lovely and friendly young guys. Wonderful food 🌿🌿🍃💚🍃🌿🌿
Gotta tell you David, you eat more like a Greek than Tasso does. Ex. The red snapper tail and the lamb chops. A real Greek eats like that! Bravo!
Man I love Greek food. We have a lot of similarities in Turkish food but where I live in the UK is a lot of Greek diaspora. To find my comfort and piece of home I go to a local souvlaki place, they have always treated me as if I was family ever since I said I was a Turk. How lucky we Turks are to have such relatable and friendly neighbours.

Indian way 😂😉 Man I am so picky but after watching many food travelers I started eating all types of food, I do wanna try Greek food as well!
Good job I’m coming to eat there!!
Συγχαρητηρια φιλε!
Tasos is a honey!
The first Greek immigrants went to central Florida for the sponges. The buildings are painting with lime (ασβέστης) which reflects the sun and kills insects and mold.....
A disclaimer by a Greek: The souvlaki pita wrap, comes either with gyros in it , or with skewer. The greek person on the specific video originates from the only place in Greece that they differentiate it (they only call souvlaki the skewered one) but this does not apply to the rest of the Greeks. So feel free to order your souvlaki either with gyros or meet skewer in it (chicken, pork, beef, or vegan one). Enjoy!!!
That's great that they de-bone the fish. Great variety of food on display. I like the branding ie the blue and white.

Can confirm Coffee Pot is way Greek the Freddo are banging and the female owner is gorgeous And outside the shop are 10 Greek guys smoking cigarettes and talking a mile a minute, lol
Puro paisa en la cocina awevo viva Mexico
Hey! Your Indian food challange was amazing. Keep going keep contributing. All the best . 😄
These two guys definitely had a reach round for dessert
The best seafood in Queens Astoria my favorite .
When people think of Souvlaki or Gyro they're going to think of Greek food. Sure the Souvlaki and Gyro is Greek fast food but the real Greek kitchen is much more. The Mediterranean cuisine is also the Greek cuisine. Consisting of olive oil, vegetables, greens, legumes, fish, cheeses, Feta cheese and not only, lemon, garlic, onions and meat.
this is my way bro " the indian way" David u killed it man haha...we love u...and tasos doesnt seem to know Into-Greek History at all.
This is why New York is the greatest! In LA I suffered with food lol
His cute.. never had Greece guy yet , love the sea food like always , dont matter what country from ..all taste good
We have that yogurt in the UK. It's good stuff. Fact - my heart was broken by a beautiful Greek girl at university. Still gutted.
David's been embedded with an Indian food and it shows with every culinary that he came across and tasted. Loved his food culture exploration!!!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ 🍲🍲🍲🍲🍲🍲🍲🍲🍲🍲🍲🍲🍲🍲
🔥🔥🔥episode Bro 👊🏼😎😋👌

@7:35, I've played for weekend and funeral Masses in that church, back in the 1990s.
Astoria. Probably the best neighborhood in all of NYC. So much to do and everything is so convenient. Too bad those row houses in the video usually go for around 1.5 million dollars a pop 😂😂😂
A lot of the Greeks from Astoria moved out east to Whitestone, Bayside, Little Neck, etc. but Astoria is still the Greek mecca
Ardian, the owner/chef of Kyklades is the the nicest restaurant owner in New York. It would have been great if he was at the restaurant. Fun Fact. He is Albanian from Vlora. Albanians now, own most of the restaurant business in New York, especially the Italian restaurants and pizzarias. David, you should make a video.

The last Greek dish I had was called Gamotto. Or at least I think so. I asked the waiter twice and he said "Ela re gamotto" both times. You need to try some Gamotto guys.
In cyprus the food is very good too.
My new go to is Amylos-- updated Greek cuisine. Bahari is my back up. Never been a fan of Kyclades--- too much oil overwhelms the food. Xenon also deserves a mention.

It's grandma style cooking. There was a fear after ww2 of family members, children especially becoming malnutritioned. So they started making food richer the only way they knew.
Kyclades is Albanian owned however, it is great taste for sea food with a taste of Greece. Very nice to bring a date. Titan Foods have closed down from their current location and will be moving soon to a new location. If anyone knows where is the new Titan Foods location, please reply to me here. King Souvlaki Truck is using olive oil in their fries they put in their souvlaki and gyro. Enjoy Astoria Guys!
Yummy 💓💓💓💓
Not too many people drink ouzo now days in Greece. Tsipouro is the drink !!!!!!
I love see food
I live one block from Astoria Boulevard ❤️🔥
I live in New Jersey and get one case of Mythos a week.....fav
