98% of the song in the CAUCASIAN are Armenian and Georgian. Azerbaijan is not on the ancient maps nor is Turkey. Most of the Songs in Azari culture are taken from Armenians this is a fact. do your history and you will see. you can take any song and islamafy it. Lot of our songs(ARMENIAN) have bleed in to Azari culture because we live closely to each other and we have been living there for more then 11,000 years. Coca Cola is older the Azerbaijan. here is a fact. And most of the Armenian song are more the 1,000 years old at least the old ones in the Armenian Tradition.

Im just discovering my heritage as well and I do the same! I was also part of a tribal Belly dance group that took many influences from Armenian culture and I didnt even know.

This Dance is from the Ancient kingdom of Armenia that was ruled by tribal kings. Azerbaijan never existed till the collapse of USSR

caucasian and middle easterns. we lived and got our culture developed mostly on Armenian highlands so our culture is middle eastern. And now that we stayed to live only in caucasus we got a bit of influence from there. but both i would say

“Uzun” means “Long”, “Dara” means “Valley” in Azerbaijani language. In 1910, a great composer of Azerbaijan, Uzeyir Hajibeyov (born in 1885, Shusha) composed his operetta called “O olmasin, bu olsun” (Means: If Not That One, Then This One). It is also known as “Mashadi Ibad”, which reflects social and everyday life relations in pre-Revolutionary Azerbaijan. It is the composer’s second work written in this genre, and is considered a national classic alongside the same composer's Arshin mal alan. “Uzundara” is one of melodies of the operetta, which is transformed by Mashadi Ibad’s version in which he cynically argues about love. Another great composer from Armenia, Aram Khachaturian (born in 1903, so he was 7 years old, when Uzeyir Hajibeyov composed his operetta) later (in 1930s) revised Uzundara and improvised the song in his own way, which is very beautiful indeed. Both composers are great. The song is very beautiful. I have watched this dance in weddings of Azerbaijani and Armenia people (You never see a wedding without Uzundara. In Armenian weddings only the bride dances, while in Azerbaijani weddings, both bride and groom perform this.
