I switched from right-handed shooting to left-handed because of an injury (and because life without shooting a bow is possible but senseless). After some hours of training, shooting with the left hand, did not felt strange anymore and my results are now similarly good compared with my right-handed shooting.

The idea of starting from the ground up with no bad habits applies to golf as well. I'm left handed with a bad hook until I tried righty..straight shots everytime

I just watched this after picking up archery after about 40 years. I picked up what I thought was an ambidextrous bow, I used to shoot both right hand and left hand as a kid. Turns out the string aligns just to the left making left hand shooting tricky. I have arthritis in my right shoulder. After about 40 shots the shoulder aches. I'm now considering a designated left hand bow just so I can keep shooting. Great food for thought.

Good video greg i liked that you covered the pros and cons to switching rather than flst out saying go with eye dominance like a lot of people do, i think everyone should try it if theyre cross dominant but it doesnt work for everyone (kind of like a lot of things in archery, that whole everyones built different thing)

I agree 100%. I started right handed, split finger, closing left eye to switch the dominant eye. Then a few month later i switched to left handed shooting. Split finger doesnt work anymore -> three under feels great. It took sone time to get the right feel for the bow in both positions.

And to make it more fun, I wear one contact lens. Close vision okay with no correction but need one for longer distance. Wish I could blame my poor shooting on that but it's just me. Good video as always Greg.

I do not have left-handed bow, but borrow my children's bows, which are both sided. And shoot well with my left hand😁

I'm right handed and I always use my left eye.. Archery is what I want to do and when I look up left hand bow.. And what I receive are right hand bow.. So thank you so much and the time for helping us understand.. I'm just gonna get the right hand bow.

So what your saying… is… I can by that on sale right handed bow? Great video by the way. This really helped me as another video just said pick the eye dominant side and it hand dominant. And I was like how the hell do I determine that.

I am cross dominant when it comes to hand-eye coordination. I learned shooting a rifle with my non dominant eye, because nobody told me about it, and got good enough to go and win competitions with it.... years later, i joined a club and relearned pistol shooting and my instructor was "why are you sighting this funny?" And then proceeded to explain to me about the dominant eye and how i should properly aim. It feels awkward not to do it the way i have always done it. When doing Archery i also don't use my dominant eye. Works fine. Edit: I also do the eye thing, by the by.

My brother is when it comes to eye dominace so he could shoot either side but choses the more common right hand bow for most of his shooting.

I feel like the dominant eye is already something that's trained into someone's brain and when you always try to compare the two your mind goes straight for your dominant side. But if you try to focus individual eyes on something and you can manually switch your dominant eye

I want to get into Bowshooting and the last few weeks i watched hours of bow review´s finaly I choose the Elite Ember, I am a big fan of the price/value, aluminium body and the adjustability of that bow. Today i stumbled over the problem of beeing righthanded but lefteyed. I planned on getting a lefthanded bow becouse I am confident in learning the motion of shooting with "the wrong side" as in the video stated its not possible to completly change your primary eye.. but there is a big problem there is no lefthanded Ember available. My plan would be now to get an righthanded Ember and if I realy fall in love with the sport I switch over to the other side, invest a bit more and completly relearn my skills with the learned knowledge over the months/years of righthand shooting. Is that a proper plan? I would be realy greatful for any advice, if my plan is aweful and u have a great lefthand bow in your mind thats comparable to the Ember (I dont need that low lbs (Ember 10lbs -60)), I would also be fine with something like 50-70lbs and I dont need that short Drawlenght also (Ember 15-29 inch) I would be fine with 27,28-31inch. I would preciate any short or long advice from an experienced archer. Greetings from Germany:)

I am a guy who does stuff 1/2 left 1/2 right. I shoot left, it just felt comfortable since I was 8 ( now 58 ) however I amright eye dominant. I have missed moose and targets etc. Because, while drawing I close my right eye (dom.) however my eye has opened with out me knowing, result typically my arrow zips over roughly 6” . Off target .I still have to mentally check myself to make sure my right eye stays shut. I loose my sense of depth on my recurve I have been shooting seriously with a compound since 79 I picked up a recurve 2 yrs ago.. I am trying to shoot instinctive no yardage estimation. Just bring everything together and shoot. Do you think I will excel at my shooting or will I always be a “ fairly good shot “ I don’t close my eye till a mili second after reaching my full draw. I value your personal wisdom, and knowledge regarding my question, I won’t hold you responsible for ANY bad or off shots. LOL. Thankyou in advance. Kevin.

I question the logic that states that you draw the string with your dominant hand. As a beginner, It is easier to hold the bow in your dominant hand. Handling arrows deftly is the only reason I can find for using my dominant hand to draw the bow. Eye dominance I have never thought about. We are supposed to keep both eyes open, do not aim down the arrow, focus on the target and really want to hit it. My ability to focus on the target dies not change depending on where the bow is held (unless the bow completely blocks the target from view).

Great video. I am thinking of getting into archery. Like most left handers I do alot of things right handed, baseball I threw right, hit left. I shoot alot of firearms and shoot 100% left handed and am left eye dominant, either naturally or by training, not sure. The idea of having a left handed draw seems as if it would be awkward and uncomfortable. Seems it would feel natural with a right handed draw. Buy left handed and try to become comfortable or buy right handed draw, be comfortable on the draw but train right eye? Any suggestions? The plight of a 'left hander.'

Know that feeling well. If a friend has a bow, try theirs. Buying for each side gets expensive real fast.

I Shoot Left side due to eye dominance, finding that out in 2000's but with glasses off I have right eye dominate due to how much left is worse without glasses. Odd though I am right handed so I shoot better left side with right hand holding the bow handle/grip area since that right hand is stronger to hold the bow out in front of me. I can however shoot on either side of a bow gripping bow with right hand due to having used in mid 2000's a duel sided shelf/rest on handle Fiberglass bow that my brother has I think some 1960 or 1970's Ben Person 62 inch model due to being too heavy in draw for me at 55 pounds max. I now have for my one of two bows I have now got on 1-8-2021 a bow is a a dual shelf/rest on handle, 36 pound Fiberglass bow an Actionbow by Actionrod 8200 from any of the years between 1961-1979 since all bows were identical. Now the other a new bow I got on 6-2-2021 being a model called the OLEELINE model by Airobow at 45 pounds, but the single piece 54 inch or 137 cm hunting recurve since all models of Airobow go by OEELINE on Amazon due to an error in the description.

For left handed bows the scope just changes to the other side right ? I use my right hand to hold the bow and my left hand to draw like you are doing on 6:46 but I cannot see the scope on my side of the body, if I get a left handed bow will the scope be on the side of my body ? I went to dicks and tested a bow but the scope was on the other side which would mean I was using a right handed bow right ?

hi greg i have a problem i hold the bow in my left handbut i use the arrow on the right side like old times but not many bows are made that way most are made with the arrow on the inside left side is there anyway i can get a bow the other way so i hold it in left hand but arrow rest is on the right i use this old way as the draw is faster the arrow resupplying is faster and i perfer it that way

Just use a right handed bow in your left hand. Joel Turner is pretty good at doing that.

Lol so im left-handed, left-eye dominant, but have always been right-foot dominant when kicking a ball, and i bat and shoot guns and arrows right-handed (batting with right shoulder back, left shoulder forward, aim rifle with butt on right shoulder, or pulling arrow with right hand). What am I? Lol

No easy answer. I would try shooting a left and right handed bow and see which you are more comfortable with.

If you grew up in the 70’s’80 that their parents would try and try and change their dominant hands by trying to train them to be right handed, you know all the old wives tales and all. I’m left handed I was born in 73 so I’m generation X, anyway my mom used to smack my left hand, tie my left hand so could only use my right, she finally gave up, but all of that crap she did made me ambidextrous 😂

always practice any form of manual skill lefty and righty. no matter your eye dominance.. you will increase connections between 2 haves of you brain.. you brain will be faster, better memory, and of course better dexterity... some of us have Zero dominant eye..

I always thought I was right handed for EVERYTHING. Apparently not. I shoot a bow and slingshot....left handed, which I didnt know until later...it was NOT right handed. In my opinion....am holding the bow...with my right hand.

Its left hand or right handed.. his arrows are always placed inwards.. video label was confusing...

Hi Greg. Denmark calling. Sorry l am not local to you.This one super. Like your style all l have seen so far. For quick hunting instinct style try investigate the fact humans have an unconsience seing/Visual sense. Doctor found out with woman that got total consience blind but managed to grab pencils held infront of faces vertical or horizontal every time. This visual sense is faster and better connected to your motor skils and why it is the gun slinger that draw first in a duel that ends up being slowest. Hope you can dick out facts and make someting intetesting out of it. I use it deliberary for shot gun duck hunt in dusk light and cant recall the action afterwards but the duck is dead in the bang. Poor analogy. Having been a kickboxer you stand that way so you power hand is in the back, for power. Not the same for archery. Cannot cut through the chase, because there is no one answer. The answer is different for each person, and it depends on multiple factors.

Guess you never used a beer stein. Also, most coffee cups have printing on it for people to read, when you hold it in your left hand, only you can see it. Cups are made for right handed people.
