22 $ Compound Bow Sight: amzn.to/3nDplQn 10$ Peep: amzn.to/30Xel6F 15$ Release: amzn.to/3lDTKwf 150-200$ Bow: Samick SHT Q&A: yes I could get a real compound bow, but actually I don't want to because of the following reasons: 1. Compound bows have a complicated system which is hard to repair in the field, 2. They are quite heavy causing me to shake. 3. They are bulky and cannot really be taken down quickly. 4. Compounds bows are expensive My recurve bow 1. Is easy to repair in the field 2. Is pretty lightweight 3. Can be taken down 4. My setup only costs 200 euros In my opinion my "HYBRID" setup is the perfect survival bow. Also if anything breaks with the sight, peep or release I can always switch back to bare bow shooting. Thanks for watching.

This was great and made me realize that there is something worse than have a bear charge at you from 39 meters when you have only one arrow left, which is having a bear charge at you from 39 meters when your arrow is in his bum.

Great video... When I was 6 or 7 my dad bought me a membership in the Ishi bow club. It was less than a mile from our house. I shot every day and always missed one or more targets. I never had a set of matching arrows cause I would lose some and find others. I'm really good at finding things from hunting stray arrows all those years. Thanks you brought back some great memories
Hey Lilly, I' am really impressed with all the modifications, that you have made to your Samick SHT recurve bow, you have even improved on them, making your bow perform really great. You are so creative, and smart, and we all appreciate you for that.

Lilly that was the nicest woodland walk I've been on in a long time. Your hard work is paying off, You seem to be an excellent Archer. I use to swing my bow left like you do once in a while. With some strength training, And a lot of practice with lighter pound pull bows I was able to control my heavy bow better. Thank you for the wonderful video.
8:44 "Hey look into my eyes" "I'm fine with that" Amazing video btw 😁
Tighten your wrist strap a little, then hold the bow more loosely. At full draw, open your hand so the bow rests in the web between your thumb and index finger, in line with your wrist. With your hand relaxed, point your four fingers at the target. Lastly, pull the trigger on your release the way you do on your rifle, squeeze it slowly. It should surprise you when it releases. Once you have your bow set up the way you like, practice your longest shots first to force you to focus better. That will tighten up your shorter shots. When you shoot at a target put multiple spots to shoot at, and never shoot more than one arrow per spot. That way you will not Robin Hood your expensive arrows. I am an archery coach.

Great advice. However, when I tried this I found my bow on the ground after each shot, so I had to use a wrist strap like the Olympic shooters (which is why they use them). But I didn't want another piece of kit in the field. So now I just circle the grip with thumb and forefinger, the only contact with the bow grip is the webbing between these fingers, and point the other fingers at the target. Avoid touching the heel of the hand to the grip as well, as this can induce vertical torque. Think "archery shooting machine"
What a blast that you two could film and do all this together!

I have been using a similar sight setup on my recurves too. It takes out a lot of the guess work in aiming compared to instinct shooting without sights. The sight peep and the rubber band do require regular maintenance. The peep will shift along the string after several hundred shots, and the rubber will break often. My instinct bow friends would laugh at the setup, but I like it very much.

Nice shooting Lilly. I love field archery courses especially with all the difficult shots which mimic the hunt. We had a stream station with a fish target and a platform shot similar to a tree stand. We even had an obscure shot target that required kneeling. I shoot the same release and peep sight but use an elevation adjustable cross hair with neon dot. The elevations are marked in meters so it is easy to adjust in the field. I shoot a compound with high draw weight, but I also shoot recurve and bare bow. The compound is more forgiving when sitting in cold wind for 8 hours and have to quickly draw with stiff arms.
Buena puntería. Saludos desde Uruguay 🇺🇾 gracias Lilly 👍🏻😀
I've shot traditional, hybrid, compounds, and crossbows. Personally I tried to be as accurate as possible with all. I hunt and I want to sure that I make a good clean kill shot and that's what I think is more important. In a survival situation being able to be more accurate and make a good kill shot either to put meat on the table or in self-defense is what matter most. In survival being able to think outside of the box and improvise and improve in definitely a good thing. So no complaints here. I say if it help you then more power to you. Good job.
I have shot my recurve with a hunting/field sight and no peep with great accuracy. No need for the peep or the release if you practice with the pin sight only.
In my distant youth, my brothers and i, made our own bows and arrows. We hunted to help feed our family and other older people. That being said, no matter how good you get factors such as wind even your heartbeat can throw your impact point off. Anywho those days are gone forever, enjoy watching your channel and your videos. I might disagree with you here...I shoot both traditional and compound. With a traditional bow, there is no let-off of holding pressure like a compound. With a recurve or longbow, the longer you aim, the longer you have to hold the weight back, which causes your muscles to tremble and makes your aim off. If you’re using a small-weight bow, no biggie. A big enough bow to hunt and do more than target practice, man you’re shaking while you aim. That’s like telling a sniper to be precise and then put him in the back of a truck on a gravel road...it just isn’t going to happen. I get her point, but literally decades of science and research says otherwise.
I just put my sammick together today ( bought it 5 years ago ) about time !! But I've been so busy watching your form I haven't worked on mine ..great vid .thanks 👍

First archery video I've seen in a long time. you shoot well. I used to shoot some. Stopped for a long time. I was ready to pick it up again when I fell and dislocated a shoulder. Tried to draw ( 40 lb recurve ) didn't go well... maybe I'll try again in the spring. The 3d targets on that range are very nice. You had a good practice session!

I am a traditional archer and I think your set up is great. I'm not fond of takedown bows but that is for the archer to decide. Nice video.
I applaud you. Well done and quite impressed with your accuracy and passion. What I value is you are showing al your shots. Good and not so good. Like your honor system. Cool beans!

Love that you and your spouse are both killing it out there! I'm all for people shooting how they want to shoot, just curious why prefer the heavily modified traditional over going full compound?

Great target practice!! Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your husband.
I recently started using a bow. Thought it looked fun so I made a 40 pound pull bow and have been having a lot of fun with it.
I got a big chuckle for some of the targets. Velociraptor, stegosaurus, a snail and a boa. I think Spouse may have lost his focus (8:44) on the task at hand, and was thinking about later in the evening. 👀😏😆 I'd never thought to use a quick release on a recurve. Great idea. Good shooting too, by the way.
I have never seen a peep sight or a release aid on a recurve it makes sense. Nice work.
Lilly thank you so much for making this video. I live in Florida and there aren’t any traditional archery shops anywhere near me. Therefore I don’t have any help to fix my form, anchor, release, etc. I’ve shot traditional for a few years and just can’t get consistent on my own. So I just bought a sight for my bow. Hopefully it will help me get more consistent bc I don’t feel comfortable hunting with it currently without a sight. The trad archery’s may hate us but we will make more accurate ethical shots on wild game!
Hello Lilly - great shooting. You may want to try a thumb or a single-jaw type of release. The one that you are using is prone to hanging up because the jaws don't always open properly.
Great shooting.. what a cute puppy!
