I have a '22 GX with less than 1000 miles on it so far..... love it!
Very thorough and thoughtful review. I still have a hard time thinking that the 550 will be $54K better than your 2016. Will be interesting to hear GX460 owners review the 550 when it's here.

@@evolusdyes it’s a lot of money especially since he can drive that gx460 another 11 years with not much maintenance cost Some people have the money to waste. Some are better off paying off mortgage, credit cards, contribute to 401k instead of keep changing cars which are 4/5 years old to a new one I thought about upgrading my 2021 rx350 but it’s too much money (2 years & 9 months of ownership)
Just picked up my 2023 Gx Premium in May. I would personally wait a few years before jumping in to the 2024 redesigned Gx and let them work out any bugs that might arise. Remember even our models which originated in 2010, 5:22 took a few years for them to get the kinks out.

Even though it’s a first model year, it’s being made at the Tahara plant in Japan, which is really the best car manufacturing plant in the world. anything made in Japan even the first model year I wouldn’t worry about it.
I really appreciate you showing us the pricing information on the invoice. 👍
I love how they’re now marketing plastic seats and trim as “eco friendly” vs wood and leather.
I agree with alot of this. I actually like the faux leather personally. I’ve had BMWX5 M 550 and Toyota 4Runner and lots of others. The faux leather is bulletproof and just doesn’t change or crack. It does feel a touch different but overall better with spills, in/out wear etc. just my 2 unasked for cents
Dude, you’re video is so well done, I really appreciate your humble and conversational tone and your spot on insight. You know your vehicles. You’re a car guy and you can appreciate things for what they’re worth. Anyone who was able to get their hands on a Tacoma, 4 Runner. GX etc…whether new or used whether new or used, over the last decade ,over any model year during that time which has really been the sweet spot (2012-current), imo, can appreciate your purchase of a 2016 GX in 2019 for 30k. You scored, and your vehicle hasn’t aged mechanically, cosmetically, or financially over the last 4 years. I owned a 2012 Tacoma 4dr short bed TRDSport, which I traded in for a 2016 4Runner Limited in Jan 2016 which I still own now. Both were metallic silver Sure we will always miss the Tacoma, but the trade in value, and the upgrades to bulletproof body on frame SUVs. offer as much peace of mind as they do with pride of ownership. I think the 4Runner limiteds and the GX460 (especially yours in white with the refined aesthetics they made in 14-15 and it really all came together for for the 2016 model year. I truly believe that 2016 was the year the GX460 was “done up” just enough to make it more masculine and luxurious. But on the GX550. …Wow. What is there really not to like about this meticulously engineered redesign? It’s what a 14 year wait should look and deliver like. So it could only really come down to how much you ultimately need to fork up to get one of these out the door. And you hit the nail on the head with the thought process that any existing GX owner would have to navigate to avoid buyers remorse…which would come more from missing your GX460 than from thinking that you paid too much for a debut model year. Nori Green is just an unbelievably deep and distinct color . I predict it will be their most popular color. Again, I couldn’t agree with you any more…it would make the 80k spend look and feel like a 90k+ vehicle if they would just offer it with the full saddle brown or chateau real leather interior. Classic luxury color contrast immortalized in regal status by the European automakers, Range Rover, Porsche, and perhaps the most exemplary. the Alpinas (B7…dreamcar) I have no doubt that Lexus will see how popular the Nori is, and the feedback on interior choices from their audience, and make that change by the 26 model year. I also own a 2014 GS350 Luxury in nebula grey pearl with 19” OEM wheels . I’m going to wait until I hear your GX550 6 month ownership experience video before deciding on trading both cars in (or private market selling them) to get the best of both worlds in one. Keep up the great, informative and objective style of videos You’re a natural and credible presenter!

Thank you for the kind words! Greatly appreciate it. I agree with all of the points you made and similar to you, have enjoyed the Toyota & Lexus ownership experience relative to my previous and other current cars. I think the new GX550 could end up being somewhat of an off road style icon (like the G wagon or LR defender) but offer a much more reliable and resale friendly package. Time will tell!
This is how i know you're a Lexus/Toyota owner: "4 years is not a long amount of time for a ownership experience review." Once you said fhat, i was like alright.

Thanks for showing the estimate. My guess is it's going to be a bit more than the estimate. Base MSRP for the 460 is $58k. Hoping you are right though! I have a deposit on one myself. I think the new 550 will be: - Base: 63-65k - Premium+: 65-70k - Luxury: 70-75k - Overtrail 75-79k

Nice! That’s great that you have some of the updated infotainment and interior pieces. Gives you a little more runway in figuring out if you want to switch to the 550. Love your thoughts on Nori green - that might be the best play
I like how you say that the vehicle will be used, dinged and scratched. I don’t quite understand how there are some people that buy some expensive cars to have them as decorations and want to store their prized possession in a temperature controlled vacuum so the air won’t devalue their “beautiful” car that won’t travel more than 50 miles from a dealership because the car owner gets pothole, dirt dust and sun anxiety.
I think $84k for the loaded out the door price for trail+ is the right number. Not the sale price but out the door one. I, as well not happy to not having a real leather but plastic seats along with no real wood anywhere in the truck. That is a 4runner level, not Lexus.

All good points. I don’t mind the old tech necessarily, but I think it will be nice to have something a little more user friendly for my wife
I have seen a video on the 2024 GX 550 Trail Edition and a major criticism has been one that it has a very spartan interior and the glass washroom has too many controls solely integrated into a touchscreen instead of simple and easy to access buttons or switches. I think it is a grave mistake to buy a first model year of a vehicle that will have undergone a complete new upgrade.

Pricing hasn't been set. Crazies are coming out of the woodwork for this thing and it's difficult as a dealer because we don't have any cars for these folks. Then when it comes out none of these woodwork folks will be around... Anyhow, the GX Premium should be under $66k... The GX Luxury+ and Overtrail+ I was told should be around $77K MSRP as the most expensive versions. The base Overtrail is the one I'm curious about, because it seems it will be about $69k which is a much better deal than $66k for a base Premium.
The GS460 is a great used car to buy if you can find a decent one. Well made, look great, and if some idiot hits you not much of a loss compared to a new Lexus.

I would have thought the OverTrail + would have all the Luxury + features but it's based off the Premium standard features. One thing that the OverTrail + does not have is a digital Rear View Mirror. As s 5 seat off-road/adventure vehicle that may get filled up with gear and belongings this trim should have that standard. The Toyota Grand Highlander Max Platinum has it at 60K. I love the exterior, no complaints but Lexus definitely cut corners on the interior. No full leather option on the OverTrail +, no color options across the dash or door cards like in a Defender, partial sunroof too on the OverTrail +. It's all a bit dark inside except for the 2-tone seat color options. 17mpg combined sucks too given current gas prices and just more frequent refills, Other than that I love it!!!!!

Turbo’s = shorter lifespan & mechanical problems. 50+ years of evidence.
Keep the PPF. It Worth.
IDK, Ford's got a lot more manufacturing experience with the Ecoboost than Toyota/Lexus has with the twin turbo 3.5 (3.4) at this point. Ford start making them back in 2009 on Lincolns and they've been in the #1 selling vehicle in America, the F-150, since 2011 onward (as well as in many other SUVs). Toyota/Lexus didn't bring out that twin turbo v6 until 2017 or 2018 on the LS500. So Ford has upwards of 10 years on them in perfecting the engine. If you look at the brand new Toyota Tundra, there's a lot of NHTSA complaints on that 3.5 twin turbo engine failure... there's very few on the F150. The '22 Tundra is 1/15th the sales volume of the F150 despite carrying quintuple the engine failures. I'm a fan of both brands BTW and absolutely trust Japanese auto manufacturing (QC) over American, I just genuinely don't know/think the Toyota 3.5 is actually in a better place than Ford's right now

@@edmundcharles5278 nobody will miss the v8 if the v6 has similar or better torque and horseppwer and proves to be reliable in my view. I suspect Lexus will work hard to that end. I'd be more comfortable buying into such changes from Toyota / Lexus than anyone else these days.. folks out there already owning these products in their Lexus or Toyota are best to judge regarding reliability
No keep old one. We don’t know how it will drive.
Don’t talk about something you haven’t tried. The new 3.5 engine has a high temperature problem I wish Ben would use the v8 5.0 engine.

Overheating is easy to solve for. Gear hunting and catastrophic engine failure are harder to solve for. Ask me how I know haha

@@NorthoftheWallGarage The temperature rise occurred in cars that did not exceed 6,000 kilos. Can you imagine the problem, but with the days you understand and learn what i mean,,
They hold back some goodies in case you would rather buy an LX.

I’m sure that will be the case when they refresh it… and from a luxury 4 seater configuration on the LX that’s definitely true. But right now on the normal trims the gx550 seems nicer!
Hybrid is the way to go, just wait a couple more months

Fuel economy isn’t as important to me, but could be a good option for folks who need this as a commuter car. I’m more interested in longevity- time will tell!

From what I have seen the hybrid in the GX will be the 4 cylinder hybrid (same one used in the high-end new Tacoma). I'm not interested in that 4 cylinder engine.
Bogus paint film package.
Trading the best of the best for $85K garbage-lol
Wow $85k for gx550. I don't care how much money I have I won't spend that kind of money on a car.
