Fixing My Wife's GX460 After a Small Accident | 1 Year Ownership Update

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Almost a year ago I bought my Wife her first Lexus! A 2023 Lexus GX460. Fast forward almost a year later and we've had our first accident with the car!
Luckily it was not body damage. But some interior damage which we will fix in this video to make Mrs. Car Care Nut happy.
I also share with you an update on our ownership experience for the past year. Some good and some not so good.

WOW, ok... Another dealership has totally screwed me over. Have a 2019 we bought used, but still under factory warranty. Took it to the dealer with the complaint about the lean. They did NOTHING, and you're telling us that it was supposed to be a warranty repair? Now that it's out of warranty, what, I have to pay for the fix? Looks like my wife's gx is getting a lift kit instead!!! Damn, I'm sick of dealerships ripping people off. This is why I picked up my first wrench at 18 and do everything I can on my own vehicles. Now I'm 51 and need channels like this to keep me informed. THANK YOU Mr. Car Care Nut! You have a new subscriber!!!

I just purchased a 2023 GX; so far I love it. I appreciate your comments about build quality which significantly influenced my choice. I am surprised that yours did not come with a trailer hitch; almost all of the GXs on my dealer’s lot (including mine) had one which I think was installed at the port; appears to be a nice clean installation.

TO The Car Care Nut- you have a 3rd option (17:10)- add velcro from Home Depot to attach the mat to the velcro on the back of the seat. Your mat will stand up in the aid, but will not fall down. You need to apply several strips to increase hold. 1 strip is too weak. Type in velcro strips 4 inch x 2 inch industrial strength strips.

When "Things" happend, those things (like someone sticks the bubble-head or else on the dashboard by the double-side tape) can take-off as a rocket/rock and slam to someone head/face ... Omg imagine that. Ok, I rest my case (yes, the odds is slim...but sure can happended).

It's kind of hard for me to see when he could possibly do it since I'm a 150 miles from his shop. He had just finished videoing a GSF at that time and wanted to wait about 6 months to video another GS. I'll talk to him about it again when I go back there next spring. It's definitely my baby and only has 14k miles on it and I park it in the winter.@@user-ge9fh5xm2k

I have a Highlander Limited AWD, I purchased it used from a friend who took care of it. When I looked up the VIN, it said it came with a towing package (wiring, oil cooler, etc.), but there was no hitch. After going round and round with Toyota, they wanted $1400 to install a hitch. I said forget it and I installed a very nice aftermarket one for $400.

My theory: if you keep after the small stuff, it’s easier to sustain the willingness to fix the big stuff when it happens. And it will happen. I’m the lucky 2nd owner of a 2015 Prius which came to me in pristine condition. This summer I replaced the outside passenger mirror because the heating element failed. I could have let it go - the mirror worked fine otherwise - but it would have been the one thing wrong with the car, and I didn’t want to start down that slope. Love your channel!

Dear AMD, first of all -- Thank You for being here, and being the way you are. Honesty, quality work, shear knowledge of the subject matter. Hopefully, you will not only secure your family's future but also inspire the next generation of mechanics along the way. My very own 14yo now is inhaling the car stuff (religiously following your channels, EE, Scotty, and a few others), and dreams to spend the summer as an apprentice in the local shop, the shop I've been going to since 2002 (Advanced Auto Sciences in Acton, MA). Not unlike yourself, they specialize (Honda/Acura but oh well, nobody's perfect, right ;) ), and got my Prelude'98 manual to 150k (sold it in perfect working order when 14yo was born) and got MDX'08 which now has 185k and still going strong. We went with MDX because that's what Dave would service, no kidding. Now, if you will ever read this and will have a moment to reply, in the "good people know good people" vein -- have you know/heard of Toyota/Lexus mechanics in Boston area? See, after watching pretty much every video you post, we just got a GX460'23 and would love to keep it running as long as it's heart and frame allows. Ironically, the seats are the same color as Mrs.Car Care Nut but the Mrs.Evgeni has a soft spot for white exterior, so that's what it is. Hopefully, she will have many a comfortable and reliable rides to Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Florida or wherever else she needs to go; be it snow, rain, or shine. Best of luck with the shop and please keep this channel up -- not only it bridges the gap between folks like me and mechanics, but as I said above -- it inspires the young. I hope it brings warmth to your heart to read this. Now, as you always end your videos: "May the Lord keep you".

I have a 2023 GX Luxury myself and I'm a bit shocked with your gas mileage. You must be in a very congested area with starting and stopping every block. My overall gas mileage is 17.6 since I purchased the car and it's pretty easy to get 19 on the highway. I also have a 2004 Landcruiser and the GX gets about 3-4 MPG better overall.

Nope, she fell in love with a light green (Sea Glass) Prius and she loves it but, now loves the reddish/orange color Solar Octane so I’m pricing out a surprise re-paint of her car!!

Maybe consider having the car wrapped. Protects the original paint and can be repaired or removed if needed/wanted. It's pricey for a good job but probably cheaper than a good paint job.

I didn't know anything about the other channel. Glad you mentioned it. I immediately went over there and subscribed. Haven't watched any videos yet, but as soon as I finish this one I'll go watch a few. No doubt I'll enjoy it as much as this channel.

Dear AMD enjoy your channel - great down to earth educational presentations. Wish you all the best. Your many comments about the GX 2023 GX influenced me to do the same last December. To date it’s all that you said. The build quality, the V8 and the ride fit me perfectly. Love the lil brute. My MPG averages about 17.5 with the lowest at about 15.5 and 19.5 the high.

Hello from New Zealand. When you were talking inside the vehicle the rip is the first thing I noticed, it would drive me nuts to. I have a 2016 Camry and my wife has a 2016 Rav4, both bought new, no problems with either vehicles so far...both serviced by Toyota. Love your show.

I would’ve done exactly the same thing 😂 Has to be right . Just bought my wife a 19 GX , extremely clean , however the silver -pewter painted surround around the shifter had some scuffs on it , ordered a new replacement , pretty simple to install and now it looks brand new again . Wish you weren’t 800 miles away Ahmed , you would be servicing both of my GX’s

I love your channel, and had to say what a sweet video this is! I'm sure Mrs. Care Care Nut was delighted! She is indeed a lucky lady! Just thought I'd mention on fuel consumption: here in Australia (Perth for me - G'day!) we drive the Prado with the 2.8l diesel engine, and I thought you and your viewers might be interested in a comparative fuel consumption: my 2017 Prado (with an off road set up inc 2+ inch lift, off road tires, alloy ECB bull bar, roof tray with installed Maxtrax, shovel, 26kg Darche 270 awning, and in the rear a set of steel draw's with tools etc, and a fridge, and oven, etc ) is 22.4 mp(US)g.. I recently adding a throttle controller which has (even on the lower setting) has improved throttle response wonderfully providing all the responsiveness I've wanted! Keep up the great work! Thank you!!

We have an ‘08 and a ‘22 GX. I’ve purchased hitches directly from Lexus. They both bolt in. The hitches came with the right bolts and fit perfectly. I also added electric brake controllers to them. The wiring harness at the steering wheel has the connector for the brake controller too.

There is a lot more than just fixing a visual blemish. It's taking pride in what is yours. It shows that you value your hard earned money. It preserves the resale value of your vehicle. I can understand how a fix like this can be painful from a financial standpoint. As a fellow perfectionist, that would drive me insane though. It's staring you right in the face when you get in the vehicle, and you are guaranteed to brush against that spot at least once per drive. Thanks for everything you add to the automotive community.

You have inspired me to replace one of my plastics in my LX that has a deep scratch from the previous 2 owners. I traded my 2014 GX for an LX to remedy the all weather mat problem for the third row, no more having to manage the tonneau cover and giant mat. As you know with your LS, you can solve any problem like this with MONEY!!!
