The injury concerns for the innings pitched is why I say pass on Crochete. We've already had too many starters lost to Tommy John.........
@danield899416 күн бұрын
Crochete is already maxed out from innings pitched for this year. During the second half of the season he is, at best, a high leverage bullpen piece set up, guy and the O's would still be holding their breath that he stays healthy. He lacks command and he already throws 2-3 home runs per 9 innings. I'd bet that if you segment his stats against teams that currently qualify for the playoffs, his walk and HR averages per 9 innings become worse. Allow me to provide a preview: does anyone remember when he lost to the O's earlier this year? He stuck out like 50 guys by the 5th inning. Then he lost command, got behind in hitters counts, the O's began sitting on his pitches and they hit home runs. I could be wrong but I don't think Crochete made it past 5 innings and he lost to the O's. Why would it be any different during the playoffs against good teams? Sure, I can see the value in a high leverage bullpen set up role this year and then figure it out next year. Unless you are getting him a Bucky Barnes vibrantum prosthetic arm from Wakanda... Idk what you can count on during the second half of this season and into the playoffs. He is not worth one of the "untouchable" prospects. Look, if we are talking about Justin Steele, the Cubs ace who doesn't carry a serious injury risk and threw 173 innings last year. You know what you are going to get. Sure, I think one of the top prospects might be worth it. But the fact is, you don't know what you are getting or can count on from Crochete, or Skubal or Mason Miller. Love to have any of those guys for a package of prospects that are currently in the O's 5-20 range. The bottom line is if they are not getting a Justin Steele type ace then don't trade any of the top 4 guys.

I would rather have Skubal than Crochet if we are giving up prospects. I'd trade Kjerstad, McDermott, and Norby for Skubal. Not sure if Detroit is selling though. My concern with Crochet is how many innings does he have left in 2024? Also, if we can get Max for something mid like Jud Fabian I am all onboard with that.

Great analysis, Ryan! Neither I support the idea to get Crochet in this trade deadline. He has been injury prone. He has been a reliever and he has thrown nearly 102 innings this year as starter and for him it has been fantastic, but he will be exhausted in September because he has done a great effort. I don't know what posiibilities have the Orioles to aquire Tarik Skubal. Tigers for sure are going to ask all the gold in the world. Trade Tarik Skubal for Basallo and Mayo is not good for me. Let's remember that pitchers get injured easier than position players. So what is the solution? Go to a SP type #3 as Erick Fedde or Jack Flaherty? I am not sure. But Orioles need urgently relievers and should try to contact the A's to get Mason Miller (the price will be high) but he is a great reliever! A flame thrower and look for another reloiever like Jason Foley. We have weakness in a relief department. Thank you very much for your great analysis, Ryan!

Basallo, Bradfield Jr, Norby, Stowers, Beavers, Horvath, Seth Johnson, pretty much everyone except Mayo, Kjerstad and Holliday, they should move all of them and get Miller, Skubal and Crochet. If you have to add one of the big 3 it would only be for a big haul like a one for one for Skubal because all 3 are major league ready, and almost certainly going to be very successful at the big league level. But if they bring in those 3, maybe add another big reliever in the Helsley/Finnegan range, again, without touching the big 3, and you consider that we will have Bradish and Bautista back next year with Felix being back the whole year, and you have the best team in baseball. Sit down with Burnes, get that contract done without accepting anything but a done deal. And then as the other guys we traded for hit free agency from 2027-2029(only Finnegan and Helsley are 2026)while signing the core position players we have developed along the way and you can gradually hit that massive payroll you know it’s going to take to be competitive in the East for decades to come, so you get to bring home titles and raise banners before that payroll really starts to get up there and the revenue will be there to justify the contracts without question as Baltimore becomes the standard in MLB. The bar that everyone else uses to measure themselves as the team gets better every year because they’re almost all young guys and they’ll have tons of big game experience. MVP, Cy Young, and all other annual awards will be competitions between our roster with the rest of baseball looking up at our guys. 1. Holliday LF 2. Adley C 3. Gunnar SS 4.Santander DH 5. Kjerstad RF 6. Mayo 3B 7. Cowser CF 8. Mounty 1B 9. Westburg 2B Bench: Urias, Mateo, Hays, McCann SP: Burnes, Skubal, Crochet, Bradish, Rodríguez BP: 1.Bautista, 2.Miller, 3.Helsley/Finnegan or Scott, 4.Cano, 5.Povich, Perez, Akin, (#8- Tate if we have Scott/#8- Irvin if Helsley/Finnegan)(primary focus being The Top 5 and the rest are interchangeable with other pitchers of relevant quality)I’d even consider going with a 7 man rotation to sign O’Hearn and utilize him as a near every day player that i rotate in at 1B/RF/DH regularly, so if he’s hot and someone’s not you’re good and you’re guaranteed to have a phenomenal pinch hitter at the very least in October. This team would have a great chance to be the, statistically, best offense, starting pitching, bullpen and defense in baseball with good speed in the lineup and great speed off the bench. Doesn’t get much more complete. With an exceptional opportunity to wind up being one of the best teams this century, even all time, when it’s all said and done.

Nah, Kjerstad is 25 and Basallo is only 19. O's won't have a need for Kjerstad if they keep Tony Taters which won't take too much. A 3-year/$60M deal should be enough to keep Santander around.
