Putting a combine engine in a farm truck is the most badass engine swap I've ever heard of

Id take this as it sits over any brand new vehicle on the market.... This is the most badass swap i think I've ever seen. Truck sits for 10 yrs and fires right off like it just ran yesterday with nothing but a fresh battery. I love older diesel engines

Had to fuss with a Cat 3126 in a Chevrolet 6500 rollback truck. Thing was a pain in the neck to get started. Had to have another crew member bring a 20 year old Duramax truck over to jump start the danm thing. A fully charged jump pack was unsuccessful at getting it to fire off. And that only sat for about 4-5 months.
I would absolutely recommend doing a full restoration of the cab and fab a good flatbed. But definitely keep the engine, that thing is awesome.
This truck has a large inherent amount of the so-called "mintyness."

Actually that Perkins would do better than many of the modern diesels starting in cold weather.
I would not be surprised to see more tractor / combine engines in trucks , both diesel and gas engines. The adapter plates to the trans might take some creativity . But all those great old mechanical engines can be worked on without a computer and without adding DEF. You have a great channel ! Thanks for the inspiration !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is a cool old Perkins set up. Definitely deserves to live on in something that shows it respect.

Best thing I’ve seen in 2020!!!! I put a baby Perkins into a garden tractor this spring and wondered if I could put a big one into a old ford half ton...... voila this is my 2021 goal.....
Locking rear diff, big meaty tires, recovery tow rig!!! For those cars stuck in the woods.
Do a flatbed with a gooseneck hitch to use for some serious hauling
"It's not the worst thing you brought home." I almost fell out of my office chair.
I've seen diesel conversions like this before, and boy I tell you what, serious torque and better fuel economy, that and the ability to ROLL COAL :) I'd throw in a new drive line and throw on a flatbed and keep the stack, looks like it's missing a cooling fan but if it runs cool then you probably don't need one
I love Mook's reaction when it fired up.
You might beef up the rear springs and put a wrecker bed on it with a set of duals. For the rare occasion you have to tow one, it would make an awesome wrecker.

I'm not a huge diesel guy but I love this. Be no problem getting the corn or beans in in time with that bad boy!
1st tell Jr to keep the Magnum PI stach really digging it and as for the truck make on heck of a tow rig for all your projects
It would be great if here in Europe, some old tractor versions of heavy duty trucks were plenty available. It would be handy to tow heavy trailers with a big payload. Instead of be using a farm tractor or an cab-over truck.

3 жыл бұрын
The floors are gone, but I'm pretty sure the cab is in better shape. Plus, the ability for it to rock crawl with that frame, motor, and drive train would be epic comparied to what they had with it this year. The other option would be to take Mook's flooded truck and swap the body over from it...
"This is all we brought for tools" still more tools then most people own
At about 14:00 there's mention of the Cummins "53" block and how they're prone to cracking. The "53" is a sequential casting ID number, dating back to the late 1990s. These were the first generation of electronic 24 valve engines used in Dodge Trucks from late 1998 through maybe 2000. I'm sure they were also used in the industrial 24v ISB version as well from the same time period. These blocks had a thinner wall for one of the coolant passages that frequently cracked when regularly run under heavy load. Most 53 blocks that survive today have had enough heat cycles on them that they're pretty well seasoned, and the danger of cracking in the problem area isn't nearly the issue it once was. I wouldn't use one if I was building up a competition truck, but on a daily driver or RV tow vehicle, I wouldn't have any problems at all using one.
I want to thank you gents for your informative video - I learned from it that I would never let you clowns work on any vehicle of mine.
That thing sounds absolutely incredible, I need it. Haha
5:00 Starts on the first try? We're done. The other 25 minutes of the video are pure fluff :-)

Not really. Actually pretty simple. Draw in air, compress, shoot in some diesel, boom, repeat. No spark needed. Loads of torque and lovely sound. Plus pretty efficient for the power they put out. Not to mention that diesel is pretty hard to accidentally ignite. A lot safer than gasoline.

Not alien to me, just stupid and useless. Like spending a week trying to figure out why your tractor just died in the middle of plowing a field, changing the fuel pump, fuel filters, manually priming the stupid system for half an hour to get all air out of it, and of course it just cranks and won't start, only bump starts if you can get another tractor to tow it, great.

i like the rear heat unit on the dash. that makes it handy for the defrosting of the windshield and the passengers. i have one of those units mounted on an old cooler for the portable camp site air conditioner that i made a couple of years ago. it's got a 12v walmart special bilge pump inside that circulates water around milk jugs full of ice and up through the core of the box unit, and then the fan blows out frigid air that makes for the coolness of the camp site. it's even a dual power unit as well, with a 12v lighter plug on a 20' cord, and an atx power supply out of a junk computer to be able to use both flavors of electricity for indoor/outdoor use. it works really well. if you swap the drivetrain out, you might wanna save the box to make one of your own.
