Fuel system unwilling to prime

I feel your pain. My son put a lift pump on the fuel line so no priming issues. He is a diesel man and said they all use lift pumps in the trucks so why not the tractor? He also discovered that the engine in the t4.75 is the same exact engine as the t4.95. He got a tuner box that goes inline on the fuel harness and now we have 20 more HP and it is noticeable. Pulling the discbine up hill does not require I downshift now.

Had I noticed the filter placement I would never have bought the T4.75. The NH engineer who designed this screw up should be fired. That is only one of several designs screw ups that piss me off.

I just spent the afternoon changing oil/filter & fuel filters including the small glass bowl filter. I tried following the manual & using the hand pump to bleed the fuel system, what a waste of 20 min. Got out my hand vacuum like you & had it in about 5 min. I also prefilled my 2nd filter about 1/2 way. I have a cabbed T4.75. I also took the loader arms off.

Just did the first service on our 4.75 here at work. Ridiculously difficult!! Pulled the loader off to start and both fuel filters have to be removed to access the oil filter! I removed the tool box and bracket too for better access. Piss poor design for routine maintenance.

Wasted a whole evening doing the exact same but still had front end loader on…I think I exceeded my swear word limit before getting it done. Every engineer that designs things should be required to do maintenance on them for a year…New Hollands are nice tractors but their design teams should be sliced with razors and dragged through salt. I appreciate you voicing your frustration on what is a common issue among owners.

Our T4.75 is our loader tractor so service also includes removing the loader before you can even see the filters, then the ensuing hand cramps trying to get those plugs off the sensors.

On my T4.95....I made a video. Had to pre-fill fuel filters. Couldn't push the primer bulb enough to do it.

Curious, how many pushes on average should it require to bleed air if filters are prefilled with fuel? Mine required hundreds.

@@grantballard7484 Once I prefilled it was able to fire up...but primer seemed like it still wasn't working correctly. But I did recently find out the check valve was bad in mine. I am guessing it was that way from the beginning because the dealership struggled during a recent fuel filter change (had mice eat fuel line, they were already in the engine bay so had them change it). Cost $400 or so for a new fuel filter module with primer bulb. Ugh. But still...tractor is several years old...so not too bad on the cost of maintenance for me.

I really do like it, but like anything newer, there's more to go wrong on them. For alot of that reason old iron is going way up in price. It's been a pretty solid tractor for the couple years I've had it, I would buy it again.

Anyone able to tell me how to access the dash menu? I tried the steps in an online manual but nothing seems to work. I also need help diagnosing a weird symbol on the led screen. I have a 2021 powerstar 75.

I have a workmaster 75 with cab and doing the 50 hour oil change. Have a ver hard time of getting oil filter out, have it un screwed but can’t pull it out.

Ugh. I found your video tonight after frustratingly trying to change oil in my New Holland for the first time. I’m at 50 hours and it recommends an oil change. But just like you, I can’t get to the crazy filter! Two fuel filters and miles of hoses in the way. Also, the second oil pan plug is completely blocked by the hydraulic filter. I’m not ready to change that! I just need the oil plug. Such a dumb engineering design.

Hopefully you'll see this. Have you replaced your crankcase breather filter? Apparently it's pretty important but for the life of my I have no idea where it is or how hard it is to replace.

I haven't replaced it yet. I only have about 1100 hrs on it at this point. To be honest it's a pretty darn good tractor so far. Plenty of power. I dont think I'd worry about my crankcase breather for awhile yet. Alot of em you can just clean when needed but I'm not sure on this one. Thanks for bringing it up though!

@therandomfarmer4231 - The other winter I had oil leakage from my dip stick/fill cap. Overpressure from something getting plugged up with ice, possibly the crank case filter though that should be way too hot to form ice. I have the crankcase filter in hand but can't find detailed instructions of how it needs to be installed or where the filter is even located. Thanks for the video btw. I did my first oil change on my 2014 T4.75 and a few of you KZread guys with T4 series really made the jobs go so much smoother than they would have! Keep up the good work!

Did anyone else lookup priming fuel system for the T4.75 in the service manual? It does not reflect the process shown here. It might explain why the plunger felt like it wasn’t working.

Really all you can do is make sure the cam is rotated so it's not against the plunger on the fuel pump. As long as it isn't , pushing on the primer lever should push fuel. This isn't the first one I've had this issue with, my forklift seems to do it as well but everything else works the way it should.

Thanks for putting this together. I think, if I ever buy another tractor, I'm going to base my decision on how easy it is to maintain - filter accessibility, etc. Priming! Because I knew it would go south, I filled my filters with fuel before I spun them on. Yeah, sone sloshed out. And then, same problem, the primer just seems to sploosh fuel & air back & forth in the line. But with the filters filled as best I could, and after giving up on the primer, I got it to start, barely, and clean itself out...

A big thing they really drilled into us in my diesel class was to never fill a fuel filter from the center hole, a filter fills from the outside holes and clean fuel will then flow out of the center hole. Prefilling them with the center hole does put unfiltered "dirty" fuel into the system. Just something to think about.

In the grand scheme of it all, this is really a minor thing. Especially with its really long oil change interval. It's only got about 1100 hours on it but it's been a solid tractor. Has been my main workhorse the last couple years. From the new deeres I've seen, you deere guys are dealing with the same stuff. The old iron that's in good shape is harder to find. That's for sure.
