Tracking in Nuke - Part 2

This video shows you the basics of tracking and compositing in Nuke. It shows you how to get this result: • Upcoming Camera-Tracki...
Due to the length of this video I have broken it up into two parts. The first part was uploaded 2 days ago, due to a few internet problems This upload took me more time than expected.
This part of the tutorial shows you how to generate point cloud from a tracked camera, generate a mesh, project textures and finally composite them together.
You can find the part-1 of this tutorial here • Tracking in Nuke - Part 1
The source footage used in this tutorial can be found here gum.co/xuxe
In this first part I show you the basics of tracking, including auto-tracking, manual user-tracking, assisted user-tracking, scene orientation + scaling and finalizing your track.

    Im not able to find the PDF documentation that comes with that version of Nuke, it should be available from your help menu, the Node reference section should help you understand all the properties of that name mate.If I find the reference will reply back with more info :)

    in this example the subject (the actor) is not moving, what if there is movement? rotating arm for example.. will this technique still work? Will we get a "moving" mesh?

  • @Eosacro

    @Eosacro

    8 жыл бұрын

    +kaito kid Nope this method is only valid for static mesh, there can be no deformation whatsoever, if there is it has to be masked. If you have a deformation to be tracked then you will need multiple cameras and to do a mocap instead. Which is a much different process. So, this method entails no deformation, but the camera and the object can have relative movement and this method can still be used.

    Not photorealistic? I think it's very convincing! Just need a touch more softness I think but WOW! Also your teaching is superb and I would never have thought to actually graft the scars in nuke. I'd probably baked the texture map out to Photoshop and paint there, but I love this procedural approach! Thank you so much for your awesome tutorials.

    hi, simple question : is this a true head tracking (e.g. like the one done in PFTrack, so at the end I can extract a head rotating in 3D space), or this is like an inverse camera tracking (i.e. tracking the camera as if the camera is rotating and NOT the head)? I don't know Nuke and I need to do a head tracking (so I can export it to a 3D application) and I am not sure what right tool to use ! Thanks :)

    Great tutorial! btw. I have a question - when (in what situation) we use camera projection? If we got keyed out people on 3D card, must we project them, or just conect texture (people footage) to the 3D card? Thank you very much and keep great work! :)

  • @Eosacro

    @Eosacro

    10 жыл бұрын

    It actually depends on the situation mate, you can really use any method that gives you the output you want. Use projection when you dont have UVs, find it hard to work with UVs, need to place elements depending on camera view (cleanup). In most cases its just a texture you need to apply.I know that doesn't help much, if you have a specific situation, I could explain how to use there :) and thanks!

    Hi, Thank you for the wonderful tutorial, however at 30:50 when you open two viewers, how did you get the footage to load into the viewer? I noticed you selected the node but did you single click or double click on it while holding down any keys? I have tried so hard to get the footage displaying in the viewer by just clicking like you but it never showed up, only the property tab. Thanks

    Any time you want a node in a viewer, click on the viewer to activate it, select the node, press any of the number keys on keyboard. In the video i'm just clicking in the viewer and pressing 1 after selecting my node. Hope that helps :)

    hi loved ur tutorial, i do have a question after i bake mesh it tracks fine, but when i connect it with checker board , the inside part doesn't move with the character, am i missing something

  • @Eosacro

    @Eosacro

    ramesh konar we are only concerned with the outer part of the baked mesh, the inner portion usually never moves the way we want cause its hidden in the original footage anyways. So, its not something to be much concerned about unless its giving you specific issues.If I have understood you wrong, maybe send me a screenshot and I will try to give a better solution.

  • @Eosacro

    During the head turn make sure the specular highlights on the skin are matted out, since they move in the opposite direction to the overall head. this will throw the solver off and then the solution you get might not be the best one. In my video you can see me taking special care to make sure all the skin highlights are removed using the matte.
