This is from the golden age of tv westerns. I watched this series when it first aired. In those days, one could watch prime time tv every night all night and see nothing but westerns.

Good clean entertainment with generally a moral to boot. I didn’t know how good we had it. Good guys & bad guys without the progressive crud they cram down or cranials nowadays.

The Deputy is quite versatile. After his term in law he wnt on to become a Star Trek doctor. Im impressed. Joking aside. Deforest Kelly paid his dues.in the industry.

Trivia-Grimes asked Sam, “Do you have a pistol?” to which Sam is said to have answered “yes” or “I’ll let you have it” (Smith 35). But more important than what he said was that he, Frank and Seaborn also opened fire on Grimes, killing him instantly. Grimes never even had the opportunity to draw his gun; six bullet holes were found in his dead body (DiGesualdo and Thompson 113). Moore, who had been waiting outside the door of Kopperal’s Store, entered and opened fire on the bandits, shooting Bass through the hand. He was then shot in the chest, the bullet piercing his lung, and was forced to discontinue the chase (Webb Century of Frontier Defense 386). The shooting had attracted the attention of Ranger Ware, who was receiving a shave at the time. He ran to the street, his face still lathered, and for a time, single-handedly fought the fleeing bandits (“When Sam Bass”). The firing had also attracted the attention of Major Jones, who was at the International and Great Northern Telegraph Office at the time of the initial shooting. Meeting up with Ranger Ware, Jones fired what was considered to be his only shot as a Texas Ranger at the fleeing gang; www.roundrocktexas.gov/departments/planning-and-development-services/historic-preservation/historic-round-rock-collection/sam-bass/

I didn't know that Dr. Leonard McCoy worked his way through Star Fleet Academy by working as a small town deputy sheriff. Surely he had to use time travel to be able to do it.

DeForrest Kelly, like many actors in 50's and 60's, made many a western. He was well liked in the genre & if not mistaken over the years he played in 3 different 'Gunfight at OK Corral' movies, each time as a different character. However, Kelley's acting career began with the feature film Fear in the Night in 1947. The low-budget movie was a hit, bringing him to the attention of a national audience.
