Explanation for the numbers on the bolts: Yes, they define the grade and they provide actual data. The first number multiplied by 100N/mm² gives you the tensile strength (Zugfestigkeit). Both numbers multiplied by each other and by 10N/mm² gives you the yield limit (Streckgrenze). So for 8.8 it is 8x100N/mm² = 800N/mm² tensile strength and 8x8x10N/mm² = 640N/mm² yield limit.

And for anyone wondering about the measurement units N/mm² = MPa (Mega Pascals), which is how steel strength is usually quoted (which is a unit of pressure). For nuts they drop the decimal and the second number, so standard nuts are Grade 5, and high tensile are Grade 8, Grade 10, Grade 12. For both bolts and nuts they use 'Class' instead of 'Grade' for European standards eg DIN.

On tossing the airbag in the trash (bin), here in the U. S. we're not supposed to just throw them out because they contain explosives. We are supposed to set them off (deploy them) before tossing them. The last shop I worked at we would save them and set them off once a month. Great fun!

Reference the 70’s movie “The big steal” for keeping the plastic-wrap on the doors etc because - resale value, and uncomfortable use during the life of the car. It’s a beauty.

On the note of the car stockpile glut, here is what I know from industry exposure. Originally, when COVID hit the chip manufactures made the wrong decision to slow/stop manufactuing. This, and the Evergiven/Suez canal incident caused massive delays for manufacturing. In 2022, a manufacturing company that used chips forcast an 18 month lag to return to normal production (March 2024). Early 2024, Vehicle Stock levels reaching Port Kembla where bordering on more than the facilities could hold. (As an aside, most new vehicles land in PK first before going to Melbourne). Overseas, vehicles were being produced and stored in parking lots and extra fields (2019 - 2024). They waited for chips and completion. These events have been what's caused the massive price rises in second hand cars up until March 2024 where things were said to return to normal. The forecast seems to be correct as the entire economy of the world seems to be following that forecasted pattern.

Hey Benny I was told by a (MSA) scrutineer that I can't use the seat mount bolt holes to also mount the harness eyelets. Have the same OE seat rail setup in my AU XR8. So I have to have separate holes/reinforcement plates/eyelets for the crutch straps. Cheers.
