Track Day Final: 2016-2018 Ford Focus RS Differential Cooler Kit by Mishimoto

In 2016, Ford made a splash by finally releasing their hottest hatchback here in the US. Equipped with a state-of-the-art AWD system coupled to the heavy-hitting 2.3L EcoBoost, the MK.III Focus RS was every enthusiast’s dream. However, those dreams quickly turned to nightmares when owners learned about the RS’s overprotective programming for the rear differential unit.
After hundreds of hours under the car, and three trips to the track, the engineers at Mishimoto found a solution to keep the power pushing through all four wheels of your 2016-2018 Focus RS. Follow us through our last two trips to Raceway Park in our latest video installment for this project. For more specifics on how the kit works, make sure you visit our Engineering Blog and read our complete overview of the technical details!

    I too would love to see an update regarding this, I think if there was more info on a rough price and what the results were then the RS groups would back the project.

    Mishimoto Automotive What will it take to get this off the ground again? I know there was some confusion last time about the deadline. Also, I think the price point might have been a hurdle for some buyers. Now that you offer financing, perhaps, that might allow access to more customers.

    does this require reprogramming the ECU? I was under the assumption that the RDU temperature was calculated via the ECU and does not have its own temperature sensor.

  • @mishimoto

    @mishimoto

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hey pr0jectSkyneT . No need for reprogramming with this product. However, you are correct. the RDU temp is inferred by the ECU using the PTU's temp sensor, and calculating with throttle position and rear wheel slippage

    @@mishimoto so how does the cooler keep the rdu from not shutting down? obviously the cooler keeps the fluid cooler and is of great overall benefit but without reprogramming the ecu and rdu computer i cant see how it still wouldnt turn off. also very interested in this kit or a similar aftermarket cooler but theres no way im paying 2000 or whatever you guys had originally priced it out for. especially with no software remap. couple fittings and small oil coolers and brackets arent worth that much

    The overheating issue is not a big deal but transmission is not an easy fix mate. Honda has acknowledged the issue but has yet to have a fix. The Ford head gasket is not every Ed. It's affected 2016 and early 2017 models.

    SI RICKO why not just get the focus gasket put in for free. Should you half to, no that part sucks but you ask for a fix and I answered. You could also buy a car with the correct gasket. You just need to pop the hood and look at it.
