Ok so ill commute in drift mode when its snowing outside

If only most RS owners actually used Drift Mode for something like this, rather than just for having Hold My Beer crashes...

It's just a rear-bias mode that has existed in AWD cars for decades. The only difference is that this car uses fairly aggressive torque-vectoring that it's able to spin the outside wheel even faster (making the car rotate even faster). Most people calling the "drift" mode a gimmick or "hold my beer mode" because they've seen the grand total of 2 popular videos of people crashing their RS in drift mode are unknowledgeable morons or butthurt STI owners. Calling drift mode garbage is like calling RWD garbage because some people guide their M3 on a tree while drifting. Go visit some owner forums of this car and watch way more people using drift mode correctly than crashing their car with it.

I use mine in big open parking lots after or during a nice snowfall. Soooo much fun.

It makes sense because the RS does not have permanent 4wd. Since the rear axle driveline rotates faster than the front axle driveline, the track mode will only sometimes use one of the rear wheels for drive. Otherwise it would just eat the tires. In drift mode you are sliding anyway so the 4wd can send power more often to the rear wheels and actually to both rear wheels instead of only 1. this means more grip on the gravel.

Gets in Focus RS with rally driver. Leaves shit stains on passenger seat.

Actually the car looks way better in drift mode on loose surfaces. All the videos I've seen with it on asphalt look half-assed but here it looks like a real rally car!

A lot of times people forget to turn traction control off, drift mode doesn't seem anything special with traction control on, lol.

I saw you guys! I was in the one of the rally schools when you guys arrived. They wouldn't let us take out the RS. lol

did u try Race Mode/Track Mode with the TCS and ESC all the way off? I find the RS is way more predictable in this mode then drift. It would be nice to see if these guys can confirm or deny this setup.

You need to disable ESC to get the most out of the drive modes.

Which is why track mode was so much slower. Drift mode disables ESC if it wasn't obvious enough... If they disabled ESC in track mode it may have been even faster than drift mode.

No mention of the ESC setting? It makes a big difference.

Did you remember to turn off traction control? With it on its CONSTANTLY cutting power when on crazy slippery surfaces.

5 seconds faster because you had 5 seconds of wheel spin with track mode.

On a loose surface like that sliding around is typically going to be faster.

anthonyd5189 correct, sliding only slows you down because the friction wastes energy, on a loose surface you can maintain your inertia much easier while sliding than on pavement.

Handbrake is for two things: slow speed drifts (typically for show) ... and amateurs who can't do it otherwise. At high speeds, you just need a good hard brake and you can easily get your car sideways. It's called weight transfer. You can do that at the entry of a turn and then drift all around it. Or you don't even use any form of brake at all. Just the right turns at the steering wheel is enough to drift. But of course this requires you to get a good feeling for the balance of your car first.

"Scandinavian flick" is just a fancy name for one type of weight transfer drift used by Scandinavian rally drivers. ~__~ Basically somebody said "what is liquid?" and you replied by saying "oil". Yes oil is a liquid but that's no answer to the question....

Ya but crashing off your skateboard is a lot different then crashing a car. The force of the impact will be significantly higher, that's why they have helmets for different things.

Except that this thing is performing faster laptimes across the board... It's getting pretty ridiculous that on every RS video there has to be a handfull of STI / Evo tards that have to affirm their blinding brand awareness with how their cars are the absolute AWD performance halo product and have been for years and nothing can even compare. Just watch the fucking footage and tell the world again how this car's AWD system is a pure gimmick because it's an on-demand system. Keep it real man, you people crack me up. I've owned an STi in the 2000s (GC8), it was a great car, had a blast. Today i have this car, that is great, and is a blast, end of fucking story. Learn to look to other brands, you'll live a fuller life as a car enthousiast. If not hey, Subaru will have a new STI soon enough, keep telling yourselves fallacious bullshit in the meantime for all i care.

ZenzDeluxe so tell how superior the rs is when track test show it less than a second faster than a 16 sti WITH 60hp more and not to mention a very straight heavy circuit. I was just pointing out the over hyped perfect of the car. Im a fan of the RS but its putting up numbers of car 13 yrs elder with less hp. But since you have to resort to showing your classiness with grade school tactics.... wheres you driving vids? How can anyone take your opinion seriously if you suck at driving.

elielmendez Nah, that was a fake animation. The square doesn't move back and forth like that... you have to cycle through normal and sport to get back to track mode from drift, and the outer box moves first, then the inner fill-box follows it when you select a mode.

This is what I don't get about Ford. I've driven two Ford vehicles - one a Fiesta all tricked out and one their little 4x4. The 4x4 sucked. I hated it.
