This being the case I can't really answer your question about it picking up ballast but....as ballast is usually glued down I don't think it would be a problem! The Dapol cleaning wagon is an upscaled version of the Tomix N scale wagon. I like the The Dapol cleaning wagon is an upscaled version of the Tomix N scale wagon. I like the vacuum function, but not so sure about the sanding one. In my opinion it will make tiny scratches on the track which will make dirt traps meaning you will have to clean more frequently.Have you seen the home-made John Allen inspired track cleaning cars?

I agree, it should look like a coach or wagon, but I suspect that cost would be too high for the market. I wonder if anyone has tried to take out the full mechanism and put it into another body. Its a bit problematic as you might be stuck with the existing bogies. although the length of the thing might be something that could be played with.

Sorry John, it is a centrifugal fan and the blades are straight, meaning is does not matter which way round it rotates. Your cigarette smoke is NO indication of what's happening, take another look at your video. The REASON for the "forward" direction is to drip cleaning fluid from the tank onto the pad, therefore onto the rail before the polishing pad (rotating). I have 3 of these (in N gauge (Tomix)) with plenty of spare parts 'cos I'm sure Murphy's law will be at work, and they are all DCC'd.
@chambs123

Hi Mike & thanks for the comment. I think we may have to agree to disagree on this as your explanation is a load of bull-shit!! It MOST DEFINITELY does reverse & blow/suck accordingly!! I use it regularly & when I do so I always forget which way to face it however...as it usually still has all the crap in it from the previous time....I switch the controller one way or the other & when it is the wrong way it blows all the previous shit out the top!! Point made!! Good night. Regards, John.
@mikeaddis9374
7 жыл бұрын
John, you clearly know nothing about centrifugal fans, I suggest that you review this explanation.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrifugal_fanYes it does reverse, but it's still a sucking action. As I've worked with these for many years, You can eat your own bull-****.What do you mean "blows all the previous shit out the top!" your saying it's SUCKING. I'm sure that the physics world would be very interested if it blew out the bottom. As I've noticed your very good at "trying things out" why not do a controlled test, static wagon, rotate fan+ +fag(new), do it again fan- +fag(new), at slightly different distances from wagon.Love you style in videos, but in this your WRONG. Regards Mike

Nice vid mate.My layout is in n gauge and is 130cm deep so I can t reach the back of the board to clean the track so I have to pull it out to clean.i was wary about getting one but After watching this I ordered the tomix version from Japan as only they do one for n gauge.(and they re only £26)I m waiting for it to arrive now so here s hoping I ll have to pull it out a lot less now.

+Paul Meredith Hi Paul...hope you got the track cleaner ok & thank you for your comment, cheers, John.
Hi. Does the cleaning coach abrasive pads and hoover etc run just via the electric going through the track and turn the pads automatically and with the normal dcc controller or does it need its own controller. Please tell me if you dont understand. Please respond. Thanks
Hi buddy....not quite sure what you mean here but the Dapol cleaning car can be used on DC or DCC as required. Hope that helps? Thanks for the comment. Cheers, John.
good video I have one of these they are pretty good , but centrifugal fans work in either direction
That is awesome do you have any other ones he won't get rid of
Hi bud...you can use it on DC or DCC if fitted with the correct decoder. It is DCC ready. Hope that helps? Cheers, John.
I agree Luke...what would be the point of having one without the motor! Cheers, John.
What is that thing that looks like a propeller rocket train at 19:12????
The Dapol cleaning wagon is an upscaled version of the Tomix N scale wagon. I like the The Dapol cleaning wagon is an upscaled version of the Tomix N scale wagon. I like the vacuum function, but not so sure about the sanding one. In my opinion it will make tiny scratches on the track which will make dirt traps meaning you will have to clean more frequently.Have you seen the home-made John Allen inspired track cleaning cars?
Nice video mate, i've been wanting to get one for some time and this sold me . . . . . You should get commission! lol

Thanks matey.....glad to have been of help & an inspiration. That will be £6.50 commision please!! All the best, John.
Hi buddy, of course I understand & so please let me explain. The Dapol cleaning car in this vid is DCC usable! In DC mode she needs the power from the track for the various functions. In DCC mode she is fully adjustable with every option through all the normal DCC settings/functions! Hope this helps you? Kind regards, John.
allright you convinced me...

Sounds good to me buddy....go for it! Cheers, John.
I thought They came out with a motor but just needed a DCC chip, Is that wrong?
Hi Matt. OK, the Dapol cleaning fluid states on the bottle that it disolves after use. For me I haven't found this...it is actually still wet after 2 days! I have however not tried any other branded cleaning fluids so I cannot really comment on the brand you have bought! I think the problem for any company making track cleaning fluid is stricking a happy medium in how long the said fluid remains useful before it vapurates! Hope this helps? Kind regards, John.
does it actually clean the track?
Q1 dropped her ashpan I see... great stuff john, hope your well, richard

Hi Richard & thanks for the comment. Well spotted too! Kind regards, John.
i have to get one of those for my layout but unfortunately some people sell this wagon without a motor so i thought that was annoying and stupid but yes i will look out for one that has a motor
How much did you pay on eBay? Less than £56 from Hatton's? So it does a very good job? I only discovered this a few days ago on KZread & was a bit sceptical of its performance if I were to splash out & buy one.

Gary I cannot remember now....I think is was about 60 quid at the time? I does work fairly well but I run it now with other cleaning wagons to get an even better job. You can see the video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e6Wkla2zcsnYfrA.html Cheers, John.
Keep going
Interesting
Hey John,Could you do a video featuring that beautiful Q1 pulling some freight or coaches i feel she is just not featured in enough videos and she is really nice thanx,James
I agree, it should look like a coach or wagon, but I suspect that cost would be too high for the market. I wonder if anyone has tried to take out the full mechanism and put it into another body. Its a bit problematic as you might be stuck with the existing bogies. although the length of the thing might be something that could be played with.

+rg michel I couldn't agree more buddy.....thanks very much for the comment. Cheers, John.
Hi buddy, if you are having excessive oil residue on your tracks maybe you are over lubricating your locos? Nevertheless, this wagon will also clean up the oil residue! Kind regards, John.
Hatton's did a limited edition one in BR two tone green a few years back which looks way better than the Dapol blue
I tried to post a link to how the John Allen car is made, but it won't let me. If you google 'A track cleaning car inspired by John Allen' it's the first result. Masonite is American for hardboard.
what is the number off it. I all ready want one, it looks so useful.

+Timothy Trout Hi Tim....I beg to differ on that...you can clearly see the cigarette smoke test in the video! Anyway...thanks for the comment. Cheers, John.

Hello again Curtis.....sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this one....just very busy! OK, I'm sorry to say I don't wish to sell the Dapol Track Cleaner. You can buy one on line for about £65 I think? Hope that helps you? Kind regards, John.
Did you really need 3:15 to tell us it was a vacuum cleaner? 'Hoover' means lot's of things. I would never clean track by abrasion. Maybe that's why you need the vacuum cleaner.
the cmx is far far better
