Thank you.i've inspected the rail heads closely & don't appear to be scratched ( apart from one bit where i'd done it with the old track rubber, before i'd got this wagon). Dapol do say though use the abrasive pad only occasionally, to prevent any excessive scratching from over use.Cheers.
Hi Brandon, Yes the other camera was a compact digi that was more meant for doing stills than the hammer i gave it in video mode. I'm just looking at a editing program that will work with the .MOD file that this camera records in.The cleaner wagon is spot on :-) Kind regards.
Many thanks for update, on design change. Yes the black foam touches the track on mine. I think it's meant to, as it helps dispense the fluid onto the track. Glad you've got one. Regards.
Down to personal preference, both are very good. Pays your money you makes your choice.....
I've seen that about I think. That will be a must if i get a big layout, but with my small one, I'm content with the hornby thing and track rubber for the time being! Will definitely have a big layout, one day!
Yes either have a loco pull or push it around the layout, does a good job.I'll have a look at that Russell Howard, cheers.
Yes, it'll pull up any loose ballast if not properly glued down, as i found out when i did the bits at either end of the bridge!!
My tomix 'n' version is brilliant the hoover is superb it really does the job i recommend this to everyone 'n' or oo the polishing discs work a treat .
Decoder is needed because it's running on a DCC layout. The decoder socket is located under one of the end covers. The supplied instructions give full detail's on how to get the body off etc. Cheers.
@istich123 Having already installed the decoder, i won't be doing a video on that, however: To install the decoder, unscrew & remove one bogie to get at the body retaining screws. A case of then unscrew the body, remove decoder socket blanking plug, & plug in decoder. To program is same as programing a loco, in which you allocate it a loco address. Call up is the same as any loco etc. Wagon is heavy enough & rolling resiistance for the job in hand. Cheers. Cost, shop around for best prices.
Thanks for showing I was wondering how this worked thanks great vid.
@MuzzaHukka Yes. Hornby also do some decoders (chips) as well. They should work with most stuff. Cheers.
@midlandspotters You remove the cover (held by screws on the underside). Go for a TCS direct fit decoder as it tkaes up less space. If going for a decoder of the two makes you suggest, the Hornby Sapphire due to it's higher rating. Cheers.
This is just like RHTT for OO gauge very clever I do hope they have one for N as the layout I'm starting to build is N. Nice!
@DE4715 Comes as DCC ready, so you can use it on dc. For DCC just a case of popping in a decoder. Full instructions for both come supplied.
@istich123 Yes. 8 pin decoder socket is fitted in side this wagon.
Very nice video, realy descriptive! Cheers for posting it!
Glad i could help, kind regards.
Yes. Contact Dapol for spares, or model shops etc.
@itgamer100 Had no probs with track rubbers so far. As for the loco, any that will pull it, & a slowish speed.
@BROADTRAIN1979 Spot on, & totally agree with you. It's a great bit of kit.
@rich81090 Yes, highly recommend it. Does seem to do a good job.
good review, its convinced me to buy one
great vid iain very helpful!
Thank you, well worth the money. Certainly helps the model track maintenance crews :-) Kind regards,
@Modeltrainguy Thank you. There is quite few on the market, so well worth having one on your track maintance fleet. Kind regards.
@armleyroad It's a 8 pin socket. Cheers.
cool thanks for doing this for me! cheers
Yes there is some N guage track cleaners like this so i believe. Cheers.
Thank you. Dapol was telling me, the demand for this wagon has gone through the roof!! More batches are on the way. Cheers.
Well presented and really descriptive I like the vid
I've measured it whilst filling it up to the top, as i've found only a small amount of track cleaning fluid lasts quite a bit. But looking at the tank, i think a fair bit. Cheers.
Thank you.Hope it's of some help, kind regards.
Hi, I have ordered the tomix track cleaner 'n' gauge. Hope its as good as the 00 version.
Thank you, cheers.
@hovermotion Your welcome. Dapol also do a good range of back up spares for this wagon as well. Cheers,
Thank you, Kind regards.
Yes you can do, cheers.
@istich123 Full power as per video, can be pushed or pulled.
Both are as good as each other, down to personal pref.
I found one that alot of folk who have the same camera are using, just about to try out the 30 day free trial 1st though. Cheers.
where does the chip go and would you put a bachmann or hornby one in
@itfcsam Thing to do is to build the stock & fleet up in the mean time, till you get round to doing the big layout. It's frightening how much money a big layout costs to do, why it's taking so long with mine.
Cool, well worth it, cheers.
No, as i'm using electrofrog points. Not had this or any loco stall since switching over to electrofrog points. How clean is the wheels & pick ups on your track cleaning wagon??
does it come with the fluid
I'm sure there may be a N guage version, but the one i saw was a different one to what i've got here. Cheers.
does anyone recommend this product? i have seen many cleaning devices over the years, from what i can tell it seems to do a very good job
@MrJezza31 Only if your layout is on DCC other wise just use on DC. Cheers.
is the pad well easy to come by across
Thank you, :-) Cheers.
would you think the cmx one is better
do i have to have dcc to have this wagon?
For current price & where to buy from, google Dapol Track cleaning wagon. again the same for the track cleaning fluid. Also check out Dapol website for full details. It comes as DCC ready, so works on DC straight out the box.
Around £52, have a look at the link's in the box on the right for more details. Does a good job though :-) Cheers.
@SUBURUDAN1997 No, i only use the liquid when the polish pads are being used.
i have just brought one of these today i was just wondering any tips on when using the polishing pad is it better to have track cleaning fluid in the tank aswell becasue when i use the polishing pad the track looks worse, also it stops on some parts, any ideas cheers jordan
Run the black abrasive pad 1st, followed up with using the vac attachment. I use the cleaning fluid the same time as the polishing pad. Some times i'll also swap the polishing pad for another one after the fluid has emptied out the onboard tank. If it stops on some parts, it could be the pad needs to be pushed up a little more, or just dirt on that part of the track stopping electric pick up on the wheels.A bit of track cleaning fluid on the wheels, can over come this. Cheers.
Not seen the Atlas version, but this is the same as the Tomnix version.
Does urs cut out going over points mate
@BROADTRAIN1979 It should be, if it's any thing to go by this version.
You could get around the decoder by using a few 9 volt batteries I think. Is the same design as the atlas version.
Cool.
@gentarion They've gone for function rather than looks on this. Think if it was self propelled, it'd bump up the price some what. So would folk pay more for that feature?? Dapol have done this now in fictitious network rail type livery, as well as BR black livery. Sold like hot cakes!! Great bit of kit though, for those hard to get to parts of the layout. Cheers.
why do you need a decoder and where do you put the decoder?
Thank you, hope it's covered any questions you may have on it. Regards.
@ay76 I'm new to HORNBY. The chip you put a link to in the desc., will it work with the HORNBY kit or is there a HORNBY DCC chip? Do ALL HORNBY DCC chips work with ALL trains and wagons (and accessories)?
EPIC VID
Just got mine yesterday and its quite impressive actually. I think they have changed the design a little as mine rather than having the regulator on the to, jus has a push button to start it. Quick question, on yours does the foam fluid despencer actually touch the track or does it sit just above it? i looked under mine and there seems to be a gap (can adjust), but it doesnt say in the manual weather it should or should not. Cheers
very good by the way by using that abrasive pad does it scratch the track?
is this similar to the atlas version
Can you use it on direct current i have one new but i can seem to get the motor running.?
@railandmodel
5 жыл бұрын
Yes you can use it on DC. Just turn the switch to on, on top of the wagon.
@istich123 Most decoders will work with this.
5* i am going to get one but not yet
@ay76 Thanks!
Hi, yep, what you see here is "OO" gauge, Cheers.
so its not self propelled, shame. I remember a mate of mine in holland had a marklin track cleaning unit wich was yellow and looked excatly like a track maintenance train, it was elf proppeled as well, even though I hate marklin I will admit that was well done by them. That dapol wagon there seems to do the job but it looks like it's come straight out of thomas the tank engine lol. anyway lovely video you made, really helpful :D cheers !
really interesting...so you have one of your locos push it around the system? in my day we had nothing like that...I suppose one could use a pencil eraser :) nice viceo and now I will go to Mock the Week on YT and get my battery charged up - Russell Howard is a witty comic!
@istich123 Slow to medium speeds work best.
@matanuialive2010 Yes.
Can this be used on DCC track
@railandmodel
8 жыл бұрын
+Paul Quest Yes. It's DCC ready (need a 8 pin decoder).
Is there a cheaper alternative cleaner fluid that can be used. Kindest regards Paul

I'd stick with Dapol's cleaning fluid. But may be worth doing a net search to see what other brands are worth trying. Cheers.

Thanks for your reply. My layouts are Oval and my Dapol cleaner keeps derailing. I´m not very impressed with it. Some of my engines struggle to pusher drag it round too. Do your have any tips. Kindest regards Paul
@railandmodel

Paul Nelson Never had any problems with mine derailing. Wonder if the rotating cleaning pad on yours needs pushing higher up, as that may be cause of it derailing? Loco's i use is the likes of the ones with a heavier chassis. Hornby class 60, 31, 67. Bachmann class 20, 24, 66. Or most of the Heljan loco's.Don't seem to have any problems with drag or struggling. Too much track cleaning fluid could cause traction slippage issues. Is your track pinned down, & what radius curves is on your layout? Which loco's are you using?? Kind regards.

I think because my tracks are oval, it has problems goung around the curves and bends.
:-) Cheers.
Mine doesn’t have power to it and doesn’t want to turn on

OO scale but will work on HO scale as well.
Never use water. I'll let you find out why. Use the proper track cleaning fluid by Dapol or similar.
@DE4715 Go buy, go buy money well spent :)
No, sorry.
