So I started as a rapper, then devoted myself to jazz piano, got into jazz/fusion/neo-soul and now going back to production. It's a weird place to be but I think it's cool you went the jazz route and apply that to electronic music. Makes a lot sense when I hear your rhythmic sensibilities.

Love that you are returning to African drum patterns. Your first video covering that older pattern book was phenomenal too!

Tony Allen playing with 'the good the bad and the queen' in Amsterdam was the best gig I have *ever* been to. he was just amazing to see that groove.....

Groovy! Wooooh!
Lol 😂 yes!!! I love this! I always say I’m channeling my inner Tony Allen when noodling on my TR-8S. I absolutely love it. So fun and immediate. Really great for just sketching out a rhythm in your head. Super excited to pair it with the Roland SH-4D I just ordered.

TR-8S is so special cause it reminds me of FL Studio’s sequencer. Might get it just cause it feels like the Hardware version of that.

You can hold last to change the last step of individual instruments to create polyrhythms

Awesome video. Probability is a great addition. Makes me realize the Tr 8s could be so much more if it had micro timing and velocity sensitivity

Micro timing is like the one thing it's missing...I agree.

This is ace. Fabulous groove and inspiring. Have you tried compressed air and contact cleaner on the dodgy pots?

I have! It's still a lil sticky.
You know if you want to copy variation A to B (or any other variation) you just hold down A then copy whilst A is pressed, then press B. Easy way to copy and paste

Dotted 8ths are absolutely polyrhythms- especially when you’re going over the bar line

It is a polymeter. 3/4 + 4/4 is a polymeter but playing triplets over 4 quarter notes is a polyrhythm.
this is poly meter not rhythm ;)

Yeah, I missed that you didn't change that tracks last step to stay straight in the dotted rhythm. That would be a typical poly meter thing. However. Doesn't matter at all.
