Great info. Thanks for talking about this being a balanced output. I wasn't aware that I couldn't use a common ground. I bought a new speaker that likely has switches and such. I didn't know they bridged negative wires together which would cause amplifier failure. Thanks.

Excellent analysis, made my day I am building a 5.1 system and isolating woofer completely paired with it's own amp, this helped me decide on what configuration to use as I am using 12V to make it portable as well with a Li-po battery pack. So in theory I should still be getting ~50/~50 L/R with ~50W 2.1 channel or 2x(50W+50W) + 2x(~50W) making part of the system portable while keeping overall performance good enough.

I've built two ammo-box bluetooth speakers using coaxial speakers made for cars, works really well. I'm powering them by a 7,2Ah AGM battery and mounted a charger inside the box with a "cicle of eight" connector for 110/200V on the outside. Also mounted a small LDC panel showing remaining battery. Since the steel box acts a bit like a Faraday cage, I had to solder a tine coaxial cable to where the base of the surface mounted antenna on the board were, scrape off the rail, thus deactivating the original antenna. The cable I soldered I then connected to a Wifi connector that I mounted on the box and then a Wifi antenna on the outside (Both bluetooth and Wifi uses 2,4Ghz so it's perfect). Works quite well and has both good range and power, even though I could only mount one battery in the box because of limited space, two batteries giving 24V would be better.

From what I've read, the sweet spot for the TPA3116 is right around 19 volts. If you provide some 4700 uF caps in the supply, you may also get better sound. I hope you make a video when you hook it up to your main speakers. It would also be interesting to see how much difference there is between Bluetooth and line-in.

After trying three TPA3116D2 based amplifiers I ran into the same conclusions as "BlankBrain's" I operated the amps off 19 Volt 4.7A Dell laptop PSU's with 4700uf filter caps, Alternatively used wired and BT input sources. Sound great. FYI! on public domain sites there are 3D printing plans for cases that fit some of those Bluetooth TPA3116 amps. I tested with Definitive Technology surplus bass drivers and had to apologize to the neighbors. They claimed their dogs filed for relocation.

@@avrahamchamish521 I concur as well. If you want a really well made laptop supply then the best I have come across are the Toshiba ones. Beautifully made and properly screened. I have a few Dell supplies here but haven't tried them - not least because they are attached to laptops and might be missed. Also they don't have the standard barrel connector. But they should be decently made too, but the Toshiba ones are exquisite. I was really surprised how much went into them.

Your 1/4 wavelength at 2.4Ghz used commonly is 31.25mm which is 1.23", not 1.5" And considering BT is 2.45Ghz, that length is closer to 1.20". Trim your wire a bit and you may increase your range slightly. Best to cut that PCB squiggle and attach there a short run of coax center and ground that should be available and run that to an antenna that is a minimum of 1/4 wavelength away from the dome-peak of the electronics to reduce the floor interference. Thanks for the video, by the way.

I just love these credit card sized BT Amps. If you ask me, this video could have easily doubled in time and I'd be happy, but still a great video. I have one that uses the tracks from the PCB and they set the BT module on the PCB and used the tracks on the board as a antenna, they did use liquid tin not solder and that allows me to go all over the house and outside and I have real aluminum siding.

Really excellent video! For the audio waveform demo at 28:40 you point out 24 volts on scope. Were your leads across the speaker out terminals, and measuring entire balanced output voltage, or was one lead referenced to ground? This is a balanced output amp, I think, so it would make a difference in this amp. Have you done a measurement with sine waves? Have you tried the Bluetooth out points for audio in? I work on tubes only so far but really intrigued by this digital method, now that your scope showed me what is really happening in that tiny amp.

Thanks for the review! The one thing that I don't readily find on these boards ( Amazon and so on ) is if they have that annoying "Blue Tooth Audio" voice. Maybe I missed it, but is there an on-off switch? Does it pop when you turn it on or off? And how do you think the Bluetooth performance will be once it's maybe mounted inside of an enclosure?

Don't understand how there are four month old questions unanswered and videos put out since, in fact 4 days ago. Believe me I understand how busy life gets and maybe this isn't your only job and you have other responsibilities, and you're not the only one that does this, but the last two questions are really good questions and would determine if I would purchase this amplifier or not. I promise I'm not being a complete butthole but you stated that banggood sent you this parade review oh, I'm sure it was they would like to see the questions answered as well as the rest of us. Honestly this is probably one of the best videos only amplifier boards that I have ever seen! But this is like getting an awesome product and no service afterwards. Unfortunately you can't answer every question in your 20 to 30 minutes of testing and I'm sure you won't be able to keep coming and watching the video after the first week and they have. Comments from subscribers and non-subscribers are what are part of the logarithm but also the interaction of you commenting back and answering the questions! It would be to everybody's benefit if you and other KZreadrs would keep the interaction going by actually answering the questions that you generate with this video and others. I'm sorry but I do think my actions are Justified because I had several questions and I don't even know if this is going to be seen. Should I subscribe knowing that my questions may not be seen or answered in a week after or even at all? Would you subscribe to my Channel or any other channel that is an information-based format where the owner doesn't interact with their subscribers? If you start doing this and answering these people's questions, I'll gladly stay subscribed and refer others as I have a few friends in the car audio and audio world. I know you may not need our subscriptions but honestly I don't know how you wouldn't. I will delete this if I can get a straight answer back. Thank you and once again a amazing video!

I try to respond to every question I see. However I have almost 1400 videos on my channel now. Not every question I get a notification of. I only respond to questions I know exist and that is when I receive an email notification from youtube. If I don't get an email to tell me there is a question to a specific video then I don't know there is a video there, and again, I have 1400 videos up, and can't possibly look through every video every day and see if there are new comments. I have brought this to youtubes attention in the past, but nothing has changed. Many of my subscribers are also patreon members and ask me questions though my patreon channel or send me an email directly from my email link. Those ones I do get and respond to. I am still answering questions to videos that were posted 5 years ago, when I get the question. Also be aware that this is not a full time job for me. I do work full time and then some, putting in an average of 9 hours a day at my day job, and do not check my email, or youtube channel during work hours. If you knew the hours that I am policing the channel you would understand how much work it is just dealing with the crap that everyone that has a channel has to deal with. Also, if a question gets posted that someone puts a URL in or a link, youtube automatically flags that as spam or potentially inapproiete message and I never see those unless I go into that junk folder and check. So some legit comments are sitting in limbo because the poster included a link or URL in the message and youtube quarantined it. This is done to stop malware. If it was a public message and someone clicked on a malware link then their system could be compromised.

Hi Dave, I bought an amplifier like this after watching your video, it's great, my question is does the ON/OFF switch stay in the ON positon when the power sauce is disconnected? or does it automatically reverse back to off, the reason i'm asking is because I would like to install a toggle switch on the outside of the cabinet to turn the amp on and off, my thoughts were to cut the cable after the transformer and connect to a toggle switch, any help appreciated. I've read through the comments and didn't see an answer fora question I have, which is probably simply due to my ignorance. My question is can I use this to power some speakers on my ATV? From the comments it seems as though these boards require some means of regulating amperage.. Can I not simply run power to this board straight from my atv 12v battery which is fused at 10A but ofcourse I can put and online fuse in place but that wouldn't really "regulate". If I can't use this board what do you recommend? It will be mounted in a waterproof p BOSS brand 6" Tube ATV speaker. I took apart the Boss tube and it surprised me that it came with a board style amp as I expected it to be in an enclosed style. Once again that's my ignorance with this type of information. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

My own tests on this unit are as follows: Needs the antenna mod shown in this video but that makes the Bluetooth work great. Very easy mod to do, see this excellent video. Comparing it to a SE EL84 tube amp, both capable of low volume good involving sound without fatigue or need to turn it up. This digital amp on a 24 volt 2.7 amp laptop power supply begins to clip symmetrically at 2 volts RMS with 8 ohm load, odd harmonics, so 1/2 watt per channel. Very similar power to my SE tube amp. Frequency response flat 60 - 18,000 HZ. Mild roll off at 40HZ, more at 20HZ, but still some signal there. The SE tube with much more low end slam than this despite equivalent watts. My speakers only go down to 50 HZ so bass is not what I am after. Will actually use this amp, I think, as it is very good sounding at low volume for near field listening. Convenient Bluetooth implementation. I think it sounds just a little better on 19 volts than 24.

Most of the time you would use special audio analyzer, say Audio Precision which is specifically designed for these kind of signal analisys. You can calculate power from the Vp-p measured by the scope. For distortions, frequency response (limited by sampling) it would be possible to use something like REW, ARTA loudspeaker measuring software and voltage divider. But some amps use floating outputs, like this one, and most A/B class common ground so you have to play around and be careful not to fry something by wrong hook up.

Greetings from Brasil! Can you please tell me if you notice any "hiss"? Many of those bluetooth amplifiers have that problem, and I bought one that is similar to your amp.

Im thinking to setup a tweeter - speaker per channel with them so could use them as right and left channels.. Its setup in a single housing.. Like to know if this board be suitable for this speaker setup.. if not then like you to recommend the best amp board with bluetooth please..

Thanks for the great video. I believe that you mentioned that the card has an input so would it then be possible to attach a 3.5m adapter to it in case I would prefer that? Any idea as to how much sound degradation for this BT vs. 3.5 m cable to your phone? Is the 30Watt @ 8ohm 24volt or 50Watt @ 4ohm 24volt accurate?

Bluetooth has compression, analog does not, but it all depends on how good the DAC is. Bluetooth can potentially be just as good if the integrated dac isn't great.

Maybe I missed this in the comments or in the video, but is there a standalone power module that you would recommend with this thing? I'm still wondering how you would get 200 W with only 3 amps at 19v?

  • @12voltvids

    @12voltvids

    5 жыл бұрын

    Where did you get 200 watts? It is rated 100, and not at 19 volts. Here is the specs on the chip. Supports Multiple Output Configurations 2 × 50 W Into a 4-Ω BTL Load at 21 V (TPA3116D2) 2 × 30 W Into a 8-Ω BTL Load at 24 V (TPA3118D2) 2 × 15 W Into a 8-Ω BTL Load at 15 V (TPA3130D2) Wide Voltage Range: 4.5 V to 26 V So at 26 volts, into 4 ohms it can do 50+ WPC. The supplier claims 120 total or 60 per channel.

Great review! Quick question: Can you connect your smart phone to more than one of these amplifiers at the same time? The reason I ask is because I would like to convert a pair of Bose 301 speakers to Bluetooth and install these amplifiers inside the cabinets, along with a lipo battery pack and charging circuitry, switches, etc. And, I would want true stereo - which would require two of these boards. Thanks!

No they only connect to 1 board at a time. This is a stereo board, so you could put it in a speaker box and wire to the speaker internal, and the other channel to the speaker terminals. Then just connect a single wire run from one speaker to the other. That will be a future project for another bluetooth board I have. When I get another pair of speakers.
