Same here. My family was together for all holidays. I was 14. Miss it.

This brings back so many memories. Watching this on tv on a snowy night, the house filled with the smell of the Christmas tree,hoping that you get what you’ve been wishing for on Christmas morning!

I came looking for this commercial just to see what it would do to me at this age? It was so exciting im still smiling!! Wow thx Toys R US !

This commercial would always give me chills... I liked the snowflakes and the characters.. It would always want to make me cry... Now it brings so many memories..... I am glad that i lived that era.....

This commercial brings back so many memories I listen to it every Christmas it's so sad to see so many stores closed...truly the #1 toy store of all time online shopping doesn't compare to going to Toys R Us...this younger generation don't know what they're missing

It had a lot of competition to follow, and thus, ToysRUs is entirely closed in the US since 2021. Some stores of competition were Walmart and Target. ToysRUs is still available outside the US.

Omg I was 7 when this came out. It was my favorite commercial.

This is the commercial I remember the most. Can't believe it's been 42 years. Like the loss of Ringling Brothers, it saddens me that our future kids will never know the magic of walking into that store and being utterly mesmerized. Thank you for sharing this commercial, as it was nice to have that healthy flashback. #NeverGrowUp

Mr. Varney, This commercial and company helped shape the person that I have become❣️That said, I realize that it will not be, Toys R Us, but myself as well as my Best Friend and Business Partner are working on the plans for bringing an, “Old School,” Antique Style Toy Store to life❣️We have begun collecting Working Toys and Concept Toys from all over the World in an attempt to, Bring This Kind Of Christmas Magic To Life Once More❣️🦋

One of my favorites holiday commercials to watch growing up in the late 70s and 80s. It just gives me so much joy and life.

It's sad kids today dont have Toys r Us to go to. Going down the video game aisle or seeing the board games stacked to the ceiling or the ball bins and Lego areas. Great times.

When I was a Freshman in High School (1980) I was home sick with a flu and while I was in bed with the radio on, that commercial came on remembering how beautiful it was. Those were the good old Christmas Memories.

Wow this commercial brings back lots of memories of Christmas times as a kid! I miss the 70s and 80s so bad! Life was simpler back then and today cannot compare to those times. I miss toys r’ us as well ❤️

I was 6 years old when I first saw this commercial in 1979. It has stayed with me for 44 years. I still know every word. Christmas doesn't feel like Christmas anymore. Maybe I've just gotten old? I don't know.

When this commercial came on back in the 70's, i got a sensation over my body that i've never felt before...then and now. They had toys for all ages. I miss those times.

The nostalgic feeling watching this commercial is overwhelming in such a great way

All our great American traditions are being taken away from us slowly, I feel bad for the younger generation who will never get to experience those great times we had as kids🤔

Wow. What a flashback for me. I was born in Germany (military). My parents moved (back) to USA in 1976. I remember seeing this commercial. I was 6 years old. It's jingle is still so catching even now. Thanks for posting and taking me back to my childhood.

This commercial makes me want to cry. Wonderful and horrible memories of the past when my family was still all together everyone was alive

I was 9 when this first aired. Every Christmas after that I'd sing along to it and smile.

I still break down and cry every time I see this. My all time fave Toys R Us commercial.😢 When I was a child, it was a far off place I could only dream about; I only got to visit one twice because it wasn't close by. Then in the late 90s, suddenly I was living in areas where I always had one practically right down the street; I used to love going in there to purchase videogames, and if not that I would enjoy just dropping in to buy a soda and candy while I browsed. The last real purchase I made with them was my official Luigi edition Wii U, which they helped me get the day after seeing Paul McCartney in concert for the first time while on the way home. And now... ... it's back to the far-off-place status again... I hear they've opened up one in Mall of America, and they all still exist in Canada. I'm going to go back there someday...

Growing up in the 70's and 80's, we've all made a pilgrimage to Toys-R-Us during the holiday season. Those were the days! Good times were had by all! Too bad those days are over now.

Thanks for the posting. Growing up in Pennsylvania we had Toys R Us and Lionel Kiddie City. I fondly remember the 45 minute ride to Allentown seated in the rear facing seat of my dads faux wood paneled station wagon; with no seat belts of course. Both stores were awesome in the 70s. Both had memorable theme songs which are still stuck in my head almost 50 years later.

I was watching the movie Cobra and saw this commercial in there and made me remember how awesome this store was along with many other now defunct classic stores of the 70’s and 80’s! Thanks a lot Amazon!

I was 7 years old at the time this commercial aired from 1976 onwards. I recall it very well because it aired so often throughout the late 1970s-early 1980s. But I was dirt poor. We could hardly afford groceries. Hunger was a constant companion. So just forget about buying new toys from toys r us or anywhere else for christmas or any other time of the year. Oh, I had a toy collection. But that consisted of mismatched odds and ends, bits and pieces that were handed down to me by friends or found in the streets somewhere. The first and only time I ever stepped foot inside a toys r us store was when i was in my teens. And I was only accompanying a friend who was buying himself something. I still couldn't afford to buy anything they had for sale. Watching TV commercials like this one for various toys and toy stores served only to torture me. Decades later, seeing them again today doesn't bring back fond, nostalgic memories of my childhood. But rather bad memories of my then back breaking, morale sucking poverty, hunger, and deprivation.

At first glance, your comment sounds funny, that a commercial can "bring back the Christmas spirit".. .what? Just another mega corporation pushing to make even more money at Christmas? But without a doubt, this company did it the right way. This commercial only subtly pushes the company, as the only product shown are generic toys. What is really portrayed though is a happy family together, that do something together, going to the store happily. There is joy throughout the entire thing, the music is beautiful, and again does not focus on the company exclusively. That the three embrace at the end is just one of the warm, beautiful things exhibited in this commercial that are devoid of turning a buck only, and I absolutely love it like everyone else here! I hope you had a great Christmas, Happy New year!

I would see this on TV in November and think "oh, Christmas is sooooo far away!" Today, November means Christmas is just around the corner. And it does get here fast!

As a kid this was when we knew things were getting real and Christmas was right around the corner.

Toys R Us didn’t die. It’s alive in our hearts and the internet kept it alive. It’s dead in real life though. But you’ll have to go to Canada Spain Japan Asia or France to find another one. Because UK and USA ones are closed. 😔

When this came out I knew Christmas was upon us

Some very generous investors have settled Toys R Us’s debts and other issues and bringing it back!

I remember this commercial while getting ready for school in the morning

Thank god for private equity firms. Killed my childhood.

I remember being a kid at Christmas time they would play this commercial and I think everyone in here would agree the excitement we felt seeing this. I truly believe we were the kids in this era who truly believed in the spirit of Christmas, I don't see this anymore. Such a great time to be a kid in that era
