Interesting video. This will not work on Limited or XSE because there is ambient lighting in the hole. Also please be careful tucking the wire behind the A pillar garnish. There is a side curtain air bag running the length of the A pillar. You do not want to impede or cover, if it is ever needed in an accident .

Few things I noticed when I installed a Viofo a129 duo pro (rear and front camera) in my XSE 2020 hybrid: First thing is my hybrid has accent lights so the center console hole that's there in this vid was there because the adventure trim doesn't have that accent light that would have gone in that hole. I like my lights so I had to run the cable around to the right. Its ran tight but its still visible. As Fawk Yu in the comments mentioned, hardwiring is preferable, but I lacked the knowledge or patience at the time to perform that. Second thing is since I have a rear camera, there is a 2nd thicker cable to run to the back along the same front track in this video. To install this, it was required for me to remove the pillar cover on the right. Fortunately, it snaps off, no tools really required, but you'll have to overcome the fear of yoinking off parts of a new car. Last bit is my particular model of camera with its power cable position on top forced me to float the camera a few inches right on the windshield. No real problem for the driver, but the passenger will have a nice view of a dashcam in their view complete with non-angle cables jutting out from the default supplies. This all works, but there are some things to just be aware of and overcome from car model to dashcam model...

Used this as a guide and got the dash cam installed in about 30 minutes, 10 of which was trying to fish the wire from that little hole to behind the glove box.

Guys, that hole is there for a light over the shelf in higher trims (at least in North America). I would still hide the wire along the A-pillar, AND I would disconnect the battery (neg) before doing this work. Otherwise, very helpful, thank you!

That hole in the center console - thought it was genius, but then found out in my trim i have the interior ambient light/LED there. Will have to find a different way, or probably go for hardwire

Holy smokes I actually did it lol. Awesome video. I cussed and sweat more than this guy, but I got it done!

Along the top windscreen I attach small zip ties on the Dashcam wire every 15cm approx and it keeps the wire from falling down etc. I attach a very thin wire from the Dashcam bracket to the mirror bracket. in case the dashcam falls off the windscreen on a hot day. Good instructional video BTW.

at 48seconds - running through that gap isn't as straightforward as one would think....(and is probably why it was edited out!!) I ended up tying a small wire and nut on the end of the charging cable before I poked it through the dash, and from the glovebox side, I used a retractable magnet to grab the nut from inside the dash....after a few attempts I heard it snap solid to the magnet and was pulled through easily. From there on up to the cam it was smooth sailing.

This is a good way to do it if you don't want to do a hardwire or can't use the dongar 10pin B power adapter that lets you plug in right under the trip piece behind the rear view mirror. You have to have the auto tint or camera mirror to use that adapter. Nobody really uses the 12v anyway so this is the way too go. Too bad there's no 12v in the glove box that would be even better.

I felt that hole in the trim piece by accident this morning. Looked at so many videos about RAV4 trim pieces. I did not know it was that easy to thread a cable through that hole to the glove box. I've some cables to pull.

Just installed a Thinkware U1000 dash cam on my 2020 Rav4 using this method and it looks so much better than the first way I had it. Do you have a guide on how to run the cables from the front to the back for a rear camera?

I've been trying to take out the passenger side storage. I don't understand how'd u took it out so easily. Am I missing something. I did took the hinge on the right out and then started to push the whole thing out but cudnt. And scared to mess it up.

This safe right? The wire under through the hole isn't going to like cause a fire or anything right?

Does the wrapping around the A pillar block airbag deployment? Read a couple of comments online that say it’s better to put it behind the airbag.

You mean along the windshield? That was how I did mine for a 2009 RAV4, but I hadn't even thought about it at the time. Thanks for the heads-up when I go to do my new one.

We could not do that Inn the UK because anything in the area the wiper swipes over cannot be blocked it woukd fail it vehicle inspection such a shame

Боковая панель стойки снимается очень легко. При этом можно на горячий селикон приклеить провода, что бы они не тарабанили по кузову. А в целом норм.

@@hunterajackson I successfully did the same on my 2020 XSE today. Got to the part in the video where the "hole meant for dash cams" was in fact the blue lighting.... thankfully it can still be done! Up through the panel gap just as you said! Very easy.

Mine has the black spots which won't suck well,,,,2020 mpdel btw

Is not possible take power from ceiling console? To avoid the large cable?

You can only get safe and reliable 12 v signal only from an accessory slot in one of the fuse boxes. Or the way it was shown.

Overall good guide but the wire appears on the way of side airbag - isn't it dangerous?

Careful when doing this strategy. The side rail airbag will not deploy properly because of the wire crossing across it.

Which trim level do you have? The reason I am asking is because the Adventure/Trail version shown in the video doesn't have the ambient lighting in the phone storage area. But the hole is there.

XSE. And I think the hole is for the ambiant light in some trims.

I don't know how he was able to string that cable through there so effortlessly. I tried for an hour with my hand trying to find the cable back there and gave up. I'm going to try again today.

Did you ever get it? I tried for an hour, pushing the wire through hoping to get lucky and have it take the right path. I don't know how they are doing it. I have a 2023 and maybe there's more in the way now.

You need a hook of some kind. I built a hook by taping some bended metal wires to a chopstick.

I ended up wrapping my cable in tape. So that it was more ridged and stayed in a straight line. That way I was able to poke it through like a stick. Previously the cable was too flexible so kept getting caught and folding when pushing through. Hope that helps.

There is no trick. There is an opening which you should be able to use. At least in case of the trail/adventure trim it is there.

The hole underneath is covered by a plastic, I cannot remove it, how do i remove that plastic. ?

It is not just a plastic, that is an ambient light bulb. Some models have them. In that case you have to wire your camera directly to the fuse box. We did show how to do that as well: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e4qnr6WDltWXibg.html

In certain trims of RAV4, this hole is occupied with the ambient light bulb. You can drill a small hole next to it to run the wire.

Is that where the LED light is? For the interior?

Watch the part from where he grabs the wire from very carefully and angle the wire that way. It took forever and wasn't working until I did that. Cmon guys, if a super non-technical girl can do it so can you. ;)

How do you remove the plug to run the wires through the hole near the cigarette lighter (time stamp 00:25)? Mine has a cover in it.

Some trims come with the ambient light installed in this opening. In this case you can't use this hole unfortunately.

Значит камера пишет даже после выключения питания ещё минут 30-40 пока компьютер аварийно не выключит все потребители (плафон сидит на постоянном +12).

The cable has been run ACROSS the A pillar airbag. Don't do this.
