Toyota Pickup Truck Cab Rear Wall Rust Repair in 3 Minutes

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here's a quick how-to video showing how I cut out the rust on the rear cab wall of a 1980 Toyota Pickup. Next, I fabricated a patch panel from a piece of scrap sheet metal. Finally, I welded it in, then primed and sealed it.

Love this. Not only do we see your fine craftsmanship but its good to know that you are putting old cars back on the road better than when the manufacturer originally built them.

Nice quick video. The FF/time-lapse makes your work look so easy and simple. But we know this is Not the case. Thank you, Jim in Oregon

I always like your work. Looks pretty dang good to me, esp with the stuff you did after the actual welding.

You're doing great work on that truck! No shortcuts. No laser welder to clean up that cab wall? I guess it's good to stay humble.😛 Are you keeping the stock alternator on this truck? Alternators in old mini trucks are pretty weak - my '76 Ford Courier only has 35 amps stock and I would love to upgrade it so I can run an electric cooling fan, maybe even a stereo (no joke, my truck didn't even come with a radio. Wouldn't surprise me if your 1980 Toyota was about the same. Just an idea - but I'd like to see you do a video about swapping to a higher-power version. Maybe a GM 3-wire? I know the GM 1-wire is the overwhelming popular choice, but I think that's because it's simple, not because it's best. I'd prefer to use one with exciter and voltage-sensing wires connected.

Actually, this footage was right before the laser cleaner. I forgot about it for a little while. This truck still has the original alternator, which I’ll probably keep for the time being. There’s not many electronics on the truck, but it does have a radio with one speaker on the dash 😁

Yeah it’s better than some around here in OH, but I didn’t waste any time on it. I had a southern parts truck shipped up and it has a nice frame that I painted in a previous video. I’m tired of fixing rusty frames.
