As someone from the kind of places that actually value a Land Cruisers reliability, owning a Land Cruiser is like having life insurance. In the Middle East or Africa or South East Asia, the people that own Bentleys or G Wagons or anything expensive ALL have Land Cruisers, literally all of them. They all get Land Cruisers to go along with whatever else they buy and it outlasts everything else.

Correct, they buy a LC200. If unaffordable, then a LC Prado. If that’s too expensive, a Fortuner or a double cab Hilux. Last resort, a second hand or Japanese import toyota.

Kinda missing the point. The beauty of a LC is that in 10 years time that car will still drive exactly the same as it does now. The steering will still be a bit vague but nothing has broken, the engine will still be noisy but it will still work perfectly. LC are built to last, take years of abuse without needing much love and attention and start first time to do exactly what it’s supposed to do. That it, simple as that

I never paid much attention to Land Cruisers. I’ve been in the back of Land Rovers and Ranger Rovers countless times and they are good very good, but I was completely shocked at the 15 year old Land Cruiser I went in back in the summer whilst on holiday in Montenegro. This thing was 7 up, pulling a big trailer with rafting equipment in it, and it went up these steep gravel tracks from the river up the second biggest canyon in the world with so little fuss whilst blowing a cool 18C on the air conditioning whilst ambient temp was over 30C. Such a well engineered car.

Recently traveled to the Arabian peninsula,(vacation) rented a Land Cruiser, done some desert/dune driving, serious mountain off-roading, and general wild exploring, and oh boy I was stunned how impressive the vehicle was! 300.000 miles on clock not a single rattle or squeak. Yes is wobbly on the highway and snaking under hard braking, but compared of how capable is in a given geographic conditions any other cars is a joke.

I remember doing something similar a few years back went to Dubai on holiday and we did a desert excursion. We were in Land Cruiser about 15-20 other cars showed pretty much all of them were Land Cruisers with 1 or 2 Mitsubishi Pajero's there as well. We asked the owner if he'd ever consider a Land Rover he just started laughing. There was not a Land Rover product in sight out there they swear by them same in the outback in Australia. If you want a car that take you out to the desert get a Land Rover if you want a car that can take you there and back get a Land Cruiser. They are bomb proof.

When it comes to build quality, reliability and durability the Land Cruiser is the far better than the Defender. But If you're never gonna go off-road and only drive in the city on road, than the Defender will be better. The Defender has 4 wheel independent suspension and monocoque chassis which is a lot more modern than the solid axle/IFS and body on frame chassis of the Land Cruiser. My choice would be the Land Cruiser despite it riding not as good as the Defender on the road.

Mining and O&G companies the world over tend not to use anything else. They are engineered to work, no matter what the conditions, in places where dropping into your local dealer is just not possible. I've seen 70, 80 and 100 series LC's with 500-700k on the clock in daily use in the ME and Aussie Outback. Nothing else really compares, because the design brief for the 'competition' is entirely different. There really isn't anything else like it out there...and so it's almost pointless to directly compare it to other so called off-road vehicles. The LC is as robust as a product can be...it's more dependable than your Mum.

Come to America and drive it as the Lexus GX with a V8. You will have all the power, get 18mpg on the highway, and it becomes a midsize SUV. A Defender or any Land Rover is a great car to lease, a Land Cruiser is a great car to own for 15-20 years and 400K+ miles.

Toyota diesels are legit. It is the way to go. With an off roader power means little. Torque at a low RPM is key. I gladly trade off the lack of power for the MUCH BETTER MPG my Surf diesel gives me (24MPG highway). It is excellent off road too especially since it is lifted with front bumper, winch, skid plates and 33" tires. Cannot complain.

I had fun dune bashing in a Land Cruiser in Dubai and never at any point did it ever feel like it was going to break or get stuck, it was incredible and i doubt very much indeed that a Range Rover could have survived without getting stranded and then throwing up many engine, transmission and various other warning lights.

How can a car journo not understand the the difference between the LandCruiser and the LandCruiser Prado which isn't really a LandCruiser at all. The 80/100/105/200/300 is the LandCruiser that deserves the reverence that the video discusses and is the one that the United Nations uses. Not this. Whenever the car’s mentioned, they come in hoards to tell the whole world that their car will survive hurricanes and tornadoes, will drive through Africa and the Middle East etc. I don’t own a Land Cruiser, so I feel I watched the video impartially. Hell, I don’t even care for big SUVs. The point he made was that it was a great off-road car, but not as good elsewhere (compared to competition). I can believe that given its suspension make up and the fact that it’s built on an old platform. Why don’t Land Cruiser owners find that as fair judgement?

This car is for those who want softest suspension with a king like feel on the road. Same is lc300. These cars are meant to do hardcore offroad plus prestigious on road. Drive them at 80-100 kmph and let everyone see how great your cars takes the bumps. Its like a yacht. Range rovers are similar but with even more prestige but their target customers are rich and affluent people like the royal families of the world while toyota landcruiser is made for both. So thats why toyota has more reliability while range has less of em. Range knows their customers will not dealy service while toyota knows our customers will not have the money for servicing all the time.
