I have 170,000mi on my 2015 corolla. I brought it to the dealership at 107k miles to have the CVT fluid replaced and they refused, saying it could do more harm than good. Now, I'm thinking of replacing the fluid on my own, but only doing 1/3 of the fluid at a time over say 3 months just to ease the CVT into its new fluid. I think doing it this way could help eliminate any issues. What do you think?

Take it to another dealership or yes do it yourself. I have 120k miles on my 2014 corolla with the first cvt change at 100k. Changing the fluid is important because it eventually breaks down. Drain and fills only replace 3-4 out of 9 quarts so it would take a few drain and fills anyway.

@@Justin-hz8bh Hi Justin, this a very easy experience and process for corollas 2014-2019, you don't even need to take out the front left wheel, just move your steering wheel all the way to left to have more espace to work and lay down on the floor while working on it. In my experience changing the fluid for my Corolla 2017 and 2018 LE with the k313 cvt, I just took 10mm (x2) bolts and 1 plastic clip with a little thin metal hook that are located right behind of the brake caliper (parellel to the brake caliper), push it down towards the metal of the cv axle to hold it in place and loose the 24mm bolt with the FE letters on it (This 24mm is on the k313 transmission after taking away the plastic cover) then go down to the transmission oil pan and loose the 6mm hex bolt (you can use a 3/8 drive ratchet and a 3/8 drive socket with 6mm hex bit). Set your oil container below the transmission oil pan and drain it out, now, you will need a longer 6mm hex bit to take out a orange plastic tube as example a Klein Tool T-Handle 6mm Hex would be perfect and the flow of the oil will increase sustancially, let it drain for 5 minutes or more, as much as you want, overnight if you wish. Next, step would be to refill it and you will need to calculate/measure how much fluid you took out, use a measurement container or a big pitch of juice and with a marker you mark down where the fluid is, now that you know it, pour that old fluid to a recycle container and pour the brand new Toyota CVT Fluid FE 08886-02505 . You must pump it into the transmission thru the 24mm bolt espace after tighting down the drain plug (6mm hex bolt located on the drain pan), to pump it you may use a water dispenser like the ones that are use for a 5 gallon water that we use at home, it's just around $10 in the States (Amazon). Now, just pump it in and fill it up the same quantity that you took out. Screw in the 24mm and torque it to 36 ft/lbs and the 6mm drain plug hex bolt to 28 fb/lbs (Manual says 30 fb/lbs). Turn on the vehicle and move from the transmission stick to each letter for at least 3 seconds in each one (each gear) and then you are ready to go. You don't need to do the transmission oil calibration or temperature measurement as long as you car was let it cooldown overnight and you put in what you took out. Now, for Corolla 2020 and up with the k120 CVT transmission would be the same CVT FE Fluid but the drain plug instead of 6mm would be 10mm and the orange overflow tube would be dark blue and thicker but still 6mm hex. Now, doing it myself I just spent $80 for the cvt fluid container (Made in Japan), $5 for the klein tool, $10 for the water dispenser, another $25 for the tools, ratchet and sockets for a total of $120 against to $285 that I spent in 2021 when I didn't know how to do it.

@@SirD31V1D Thanks for the instructions. Is it true that doing it this way only exchanges some of the fluid and not all? I think that would be better, and may not be a shock the the transmission to replace all of its fluid. So maybe I can do this and then 6 months later do it again to have all fresh fluid in there. Thanks again!

@@GF-mf7ml I intend to do it myself, i see replacing the reverse clutch is easy and can be done by removing one of the car's wheel. A full rebuild I would probably not do myself.

Hello! K313 were assigned for Corolla from 2014 to 2019 with the 2ZRFE 1.8L engine. Now, the k120 with the direct shift (1st gear is automatic and then it engages into CVT when shift to 2nd gear and up) was assigned to the new engine of Toyota Corolla from 2020 and up with the 2.0L.
