    I learned a lot about maintenance working on my moms 98 Corolla since she got it at the dealer, very basic 1.8L with a basic 3sp Auto Trans-separate diff on the 3sp. Just sold for my mom this past March for $1G to a mechanic, had over 283k miles and he was happy to buy it. The Corolla is my DIY inspiration.

    Had one of these a few years ago blew the hose on the back of the water pump housing and cooked it to point where smoke was coming out under the bonnet (hood for you Americans) I thought is was stuffed let it cool down changed the hose and it went for another 5 or so years. Overheated and "blew the hose"? That sounds completely bogus. What is likely, is that the head gasket has or will soon fail as a result of overheating. Or the cylinder head is warped or cracked now. So this baby will likely soon be in the junk yard. Someone either forgot to torque those compressor bolts or forgot to put them in altogether. That hose looks awfully short and the clamps are wrong design. But thanks for the video. These were reliable car, albeit now considered caskets on wheels.

    Dear Sir. I saw a question without answer in another video when searching for my own Corolla 1998 problem. Why the click. click. and no cranking and no start engine problem ONLY when HOT weather starts and our cars seat under that terrible heat. Today, when I attempted to move my car to a shady place it did not start and after knocking the starter with a hammer, checking the battery posts, moving the start relay to clean the contacts(I could not pull it out) I finally seated on the car i start bouncing the car several times and then I turn the key and IT DID START ! Years ago ( maybe was summer also?) I was told the car needed a new water pump.... however, my car continued working fine without it, just because I do not trust mechanics. Many thanks in advance.

    I have the same engine 7A-FE in my 1994 Celica and it burns and leaks oil. Why is Toyota considered reliable? Or is this because the previous owner installed an LPG system in the car which destroyed the valve seals? I see especially a lot of smoke when I accelerate after coming down a hill, If i shift to neutral on downhill, then no smoke on acceleration.

  • @davidhayter8516

    @davidhayter8516

    3 ай бұрын

    Hi, I have a 1994 7A-FE. They are busy little engines and they do blow a bit of blue smoke and do leak here and there, now they are getting older. Mine has 200k on the clock and is 30 years old but works perfectly apart from a few oil leaks and as you mentioned blue smoke on acceleration and going up hills and under load. This is usually caused by valve stem guides being worn. Not much to worry about. As long as your compression is within limits (about 180). Gaskets will fail and leaks then happen but remember these cars are over 20 years old, most with hundreds of thousands of miles on them and they are still going. Mine blows a bit of blue smoke, leaks a bit of oil, but I’d still drive it around Australia without a second thought. Bloody thing is a tank.
