    Thanks for posting. I didnt realise that the coolant refill method had been revised. I will try that way when ive finished rebuilding my engine

    It works very well on these engines / cars. To speed up the process open the small bleed valve to let the air in the small compartiment out once in a while and once it's warming up just apply small blips of trottle to push the air up in the reservoir.

    Haha yeah on the first version of the pistons they indeed made them too small, only 4 per piston and in the wrong place. Second version still 4 and small but in better location. And final version finally has 4 per side, bigger and in better location

    I’ve seen comments on other videos that there was a slight design flaw with pre 2003 model engines with regards to a little higher oil consumption. Don’t know how big of an issue it is, do you have any additional info about it? Thanks, great video 👍

    Bugs Bunny The pistons of the older 1ZZ engines have a bad oil extraction holes. They are very small and only 4 holes per piston. The 2003+ models have 8 holes but still aren't that great. Only the latest versions have best piston models with 8 larger openings to remove the oil that is scraped by the piston rings. The smaller holes can get blocked and thus prevent the oil from being removed from the cylinder wallls. And thus the oil is burned in the engine. Hope this helps.

    SV Sportscars That’s a great explanation, I suppose you’d have to keep checking oil levels weekly & possibly topping it up weekly too. I currently own a 6th gen 98 model Celica ZR & it has given me trouble free driving since I purchased it 2nd hand over 10 years ago. But I need to replace it because it has now clocked up 380,000 km’s & I know it won’t last forever. I found a 2002 ZR with this 2ZZ motor for sale & will have a look at the car next week & was curious about the oil issue. Appreciate your explanation, thanks 👍

    Bugs Bunny Well the 2ZZ engines don't have the same piston problems as the 1ZZ models. They can consume a bit of oil when high in the rev range and have a habbit of leaking around the timing cover. Replacing the gaskets there fixes that for many years to come. And as long as you check regularly. And make sure the 2ZZs oil level never goes below half on the stick you should have many years od care free driving.

    This happened to my 2004 1ZZ. Started burning oil badly after about 120k and I was forever topping it up; eventually failed its emissions test; uneconomical to pay garage to replace the rings (unless you're prepared to do it yourself).

    This is for the 1999 model. ,the 2000-2005 2zz is 180hp

    skydrones2012 actually all other regions got the 190 hp models. Only US spec models got rated lower due to fuel standards and emissions. European and Japanese models still got the 192 output specifications.

    my 140 was clocked @ 156. All stock apart from k&n filter with standard airbox, but heres the trick. Wait until the tank is almost empty, only a few litres of fuel left. Refill with the highest octane fuel available, mine was 99ron. Then reset the ecu and enjoy. It will be like a rocket for a few days until it has figured out its proper settings and reverts to normal.

    haha indeed. But the basics are there. by following the logic you should be able to fully flush and bleed it.
