Toyota 6-Speed: Transmission Fluid & Filter Change (Avalon, Camry, RX350, Sienna) 2006-2018*

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Prior to performing a complete fluid exchange on this Toyota 6-speed automatic transmission, I replace the filter and fluid in the pan. Toyota and Lexus use the 6-speed U660E transmission in many of their V6 vehicles beginning in 2006, see below.

Exactly! I could give 2 shit how you're week is going or how this is for my hillbilly cousin that can't read! Just get to the point and cut the dam camera when you're removing 20 bolts I really don't want to hear your gossip! I wondered if I was the only one that was irritated with that shit lol.

Just changed filter and fluid on 2012 camry. there is one tranny 10mm bolt that was a bear to get out. I ground down a 3/8" 10mm socket to be no longer than 5/8". It did the job, but a 1/4" socket would have been better. took forever. I just read another post below saying O'Reillys sells a low profile socket set. that would have been great.

The video shows more room to get at that 10mm bolt. There is no room on mine even with a 1/4" 10mm socket, not even with a swivel. One guy said he got it out with a 10mm wrench, seriously my wrench had no room to turn. Don't want to jack up the engine, I will sacrifices a 1/4" 10mm socket to get it in this morning. Mine is 2014 V6 Camry with no dipstick, going by temperature. The filter looks different, need to notice if the three bolts are different lengths, on some Toyotas they are. Total PIA!

Where are you located I would take my Avalon 2018 to you to do it? Do I need to drop pan and change filter, I got 47K or can I just replace the fluid?

It depends on the fluid condition. If it isn't terrible (dark and burnt smelling), then you could probably do a drain and fill for now and plan on the filter in another approx 30k.

While the pans off , why not fill it with liquid / or ATF up to the overflow tube then measure - ballpark idea of what the pan holds before overflowing

That would work as a starting point for the initial fluid check, however, transmission fluid has to be checked with the engine running in order to be accurate. When the engine is running, the fluid is circulating throughout the transmission and cooler, which gives a different reading than when it is static.

While checking that final level through the drain bolt did u have the car engine running or turned off?

@@MasterJacks Could you also just measure what came out and put the same back in?

That could work, but checking it is really the best way to ensure proper level.

can you over screw that red straw thingy, or does it eventually bottom out when you screw it in? I'm afraid i'll screw it too far and it'll end up in the pan, and i don't want to have to drop the pan to retrieve it.

Good question. No, it bottoms out to provide an accurate fluid level in the pan.

@MasterJacks thanks. It just seemed like I was screwing n screwing n I was afraid of screwing it right into the pan. Your video was helpful. I just changed my fluid. Most challenging part was getting all 4 wheels off the ground and leveling the car 😀

Do you have to pull the tire to fill it back up? Can you fill from the top side in the engine bay instead?

Yes you can, I did mine without removing the wheel.

Sure, but no big deal to remove the tire for easy access since all four wheels already jacked up.
