I’m in the Diamond 1 Diamond 2 area and I like to think that (unless my teammates are straight up whiffing the easiest hits) that it is usually my fault and I spend hours in free play and custom games trying to get better at the things that I struggle with. That being said I think I deserve my current rank in Diamond 2

in the second game in the chat you could see the opponent saying: so when is he gonna do the flip resets, I AM DYING

In reality there isn’t but I understand what he’s saying. Using a directional air roll allows for greater control while making you look cool. It’s also what the high ranked players do because it allows for greater control, otherwise you’d be doing everything manually all the time with regular air roll.

@@slim7406 Directional air roll was never about more control in game.. it was about maintaining the baseline of challenge. Sure, some people get so good that they can do it constantly but for those of us that aren't going pro or toward that very top echelon, there's no benefit to doing that in game. It's actually a hinderance. If you watch legitimate speedruns of workshop maps, you won't see them constantly directional rolling, and that's because there's no benefit to doing it when you're trying to be fast. (This isn't Forky level air roll speedrunning, either. I'm talking World Record flatout speedruns.) There's some fancy shit in there usually, like slamming a ring to get a reset, or pogo'ing for time, but generally they won't be doin' that. By all means keep the game challenging, that's how we get better, but a champ, even lower SSL's directional rolling IN GAME when they're playing for rank and to win, are only hurting themselves. You don't get more control, and you're adding in a variable of failure to your aerials. Gotta remember that in private you're playing to improve, and in game, you're playing for rank. Nothing makes me sadder than to watch someone have a perfectly easy shot lined up, and then they try to big brain it & and miss because they wanted to look pretty, or because their subconscious brain took over and forced that extra roll. Just hit the ball, 4head. :) I'm guilty of it, too, though.

I could make an argument about speed flipping and why it's useless and only talk about the people who don't know when to speed flip and say it's a hindrance. One more thing, at the beginning of learning anything you will be awful but that's how you learn how much you truly can improve.

I Needed this video! It amazes me how many shit talkers there are in this game. Pretty sure you could take a full college class in psychology on the behavior of some Rocket League players.

that's actually, about normal mechanics for d1 in 1s, i'm having a harder time believing the plat was legitimately plat. i'm a d2 in 1s, d3 in 2s. all it is, really, is more consistent plat mechanics and better positioning. not discrediting him, he was a lot more active with using his mechanics to be unpredictable, which is a much more valuable skill.
