TOXIC MASCULINITY: The Rise & Fall Of The Red Pill Manosphere & Why Men FEEL LOST | Destiny

Steven Bonnell the popular Twitch gamer that goes by the name Destiny has built a successful career streaming while talking politics, debating, and trolling right-wing culture from one of the biggest soapboxes.
I hope you’re ready for this deep dive into the manosphere unpacking the red pill community of online influencers causing men to feel more lost than ever..
So what are we digging into?
- How online influencers like Andrew Tate attract so many followers
- Why you can’t get through the manosphere’s echo chamber of toxic beliefs, and
- Why balanced perspectives are sorely needed to tackle misinformation being spread online
Destiny is known for his engaging and often controversial discussions on a wide range of topics, including politics, philosophy, and social issues so you know this is going to be an interesting ride.
QUOTES:
“Luring you in with the cars and the money and the girls, but I’m ultimately trying to sell you self-improvement. I feel like that’s a deal with the devil that doesn’t pan out.”
“Luck means that it isn’t fair.”
“In the push to elevate women and minorities and all of these other types of people in society who historically didn’t have the best representation, I think we’ve kind of made the mistake of turning white people and young men into the enemy because they had the stage for so long.”
“Masculinity is not toxic in and of itself, but aggression can be wielded poorly, in which case it would look toxic.” -Tom Bilyeu
“Given the ability to work jobs and have autonomy over their lives, women don’t want to choose to be locked away as moms at 18,19, 20 years old, That’s a really hard sell.”

He's a sociopath, based on the body language, vernal, discourse and statement analysis I did about him in one of the dramas he was involved in, which is that Destiny was very defensive and distressed, and was partly being deceptive and slandering the other person in that drama, which matches the patterns of a sociopath defending themselves.

    11:50 I've thought about this a lot. If you're extremely wealthy and want to teach your kids what failure is, you have very few options. If they fail in school, job, etc. they will always have their parents' safety net so "failing" is never truly failing. But if you enroll them in competitive sports, they're going to have to face failure head on at some point. No one is coming to save you from losing but you.

  • @annmarieknapp2480

    @annmarieknapp2480

    That's true. I was a competitive figure skater and it was good to perform in front of an audience and to face failure. You learn more from your failures. When you do well in competition it just makes the outcome that much sweeter. Gen X didn't receive participation awards. Your participation award was that you got chance to compete. No consolation prize, which would have been worthless and patronizing. I think kids who were given a certificate for showing up was uncool. My generation would have ripped the damn thing up. I credit my 10 years of competing skating with my level of education and drive to keep going no matter how rough things are. No one is coming to save you. You have to save yourself. Earth is harsh.

    Think of something you already do regularly, without fail. Simply attach a new habit to that, so you're allowing the new habit to piggyback off the old. Imagine introducing vitamins to go with your perfect cup of morning tea. Or picture calling a loved one on a regular drive. Notice that you have zeroed in on the behavior, rather than just focusing on the goal. You've met your outcome, to be sure, but you achieved this by simply planting the means in the right place. One habit produced the other, as if by magic.

I promise you there are far more clips of Leftists raising their voices, far shriller, far more incoherently, and far more frequently than anyone who is not a leftist. Notice how I said "anyone who is not a leftist", because there's way more diversity of thought outside of that cult. I'd even put Destiny outside of it, although I think he's too hedonistic. That fact that Hasan has a large audience is proof positive that there is a swath of people incapable of rational thought. The guy makes huge leaps in claims without evidence, he doesn't even know what evidence is or how to find it, he's narcissistic af, and is basically an overgrown manchild whose had a life devoid of the level of challenge required to develop practicality in how he thinks. I feel like the vast majority of the time, Destiny is the absolute perfect blend of what you want from an informational & educational commentary channel, whether about politics or social issues. I definitely listen to more social issues since I can't really compare US economics to my own nation's, but the social stuff is suuper relevant. And what's great about his discussions, even the meme ones where its him and another yelling at each other, is that it's helped me *how to* think about these issues, not *what to* think about these subjects necessarily. This way you can easily forge your own actual thought patterns instead of becoming part of the shitstorm of Chinese Whispers online.

    @@drugastronamedalu I don't know if that jealousy thing is true though man, if it was then their relationship would have crumbled years ago. I'm guessing it was made with mutual agreements made with multiple calm discussions, like healthy adults. I am for family values and traditional gender roles in relationships ***IF*** that is both parties' choice going forward. I myself (I'm young atm) would like a traditional household when I'm older where my wife alongside me is building a beautiful home with children, while I bring in primary financial support. I enjoy that idea as a man and I think it will make me feel fulfilled. However different stuff works for different people, Destiny never recommends his type of relationship to others because most people have trouble dealing with just one person, much less multiple. And I don't think that disqualifies him from giving good advice considering he's been in normal relationships his whole life.

Add to that built-in obsolescence, disposables, & new models of electronics coming out all the time in an affluent society where we no longer fix things or use things until they wear out and you have a country full of consumers, not citizens. Corporate America & multi-national corporations are just as manipulative at mainstream media & way more manipulative than governments. Governments have the weight of law enforcement behind them so they have less need to manipulate people. They can just use force. @@teeboxmedia

  • @RS-fy9hb

    @RS-fy9hb

    10 ай бұрын

    I mean, if you were gonna call him a cuck, you'd be factually wrong too 😂. But Destiny himself also says that there's a very small amount of people who can actually make an open relationship work. In most cases, one party's gonna get jealous or is already desperate, and so they often fail, because the people within fail to set and uphold boundaries frequently. Btw, Destiny has cheated within even their open relationship, and there's a whole drama about that "arc" of the story, that as recently as a week or two ago, came to its conclusion with the revelation that Rollo Tomassi had fallen for a huge troll from Lauren Southern and Brittany Venti 😂. But that aside, it really seems that people have no idea what it means to have an open relationship, and that's probably just a sign that it's not meant for them. If you can't picture being in a semi committed relationship, respecting some fair boundaries on both parts, while still seeking out new experiences with other people outside the committed relationship, then you're definitely not suited for the lifestyle. I myself also won't ever open up my own relationship, mostly because of how complicated the interpersonal dynamics become when you regularly introduce new people into an existing dynamic, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't simultaneously be open to bringing in 3rd parties into an established monogamous relationship occasionally to spice things up. The reason people often make fun of his blue hair or call him a cuck, is mostly just because they severely lack the self reflection or processing power to see their own mistakes and flaws in their thinking and logic, and they simply can't find a genuine point to argue about, or dispute. That's not to say Destiny doesn't make mistakes, but generally, the reason why Destiny's fanbase is so active, is because he's genuinely cultivated an audience of people who will correct him, or let him know when he makes mistakes, so it makes sense that other people's audiences aren't able to find very many flaws in his logic, despite disagree with him, because most of his arguments have already been "refined" by his own hyper critical audience. But it's personally been a while since I watched much of his content, some of the drama he posts and does can get quite dry, so I get tired quickly.

    @LizsCritters

    10 ай бұрын

    @@wesleytietz4506 Error cost is how bad something could be in a scenario. Say you're in a rush putting groceries away and realize that a sack is still by the front door; error cost of leaving it until later is going to depend on what might be in it. If you didn't buy perishables and don't have a dog that would eat a loaf of bread while you're out, worst case is probably going to be that you don't have a cold can of soda when you get back later. Worst case might also be that it was a carton of chocolate ice cream that will melt, stain the white carpet, and cost you the deposit on your rental. No one expects children to have great social skills and generally there is very little at stake. One might not get an invitation or a party or get a scolding from a relative. As an adult, messing up a social interaction might keep one from getting a raise, job or roommate.

There is something cathartic about a bad trip that often flips a switch in you that when it is over you have a fresh appreciation for your regular, sober life experience. It's hard to describe. I think everyone should try them at least once in their life, granted they don't have any medical or psychological conditions that would preclude them from doing it safely, or are on any contraindicated medications that would interact negatively with them. ALWAYS do your research, and NEVER do what Destiny did here, and take 5x the recommended starting dose for your first experience. That's just irresponsible.

    I used to think that everyone should try psychedelics too but I know a few people that completely got lost and aren't coming back from even just small dose of mushrooms or Cannabis from the same stuff that everyone else has been using. These plants can trigger psychosis or schizophrenia that some people just can't come back from. My perspective is very different now after seeing the negative aspects that are very possible. Grateful it didn't happen to me!

    Overwhelmingly, people tend to point to their "work ethic" when discussing the impetus of their success. They never discuss, perhaps they need to be made aware of, the ton of luck (people you come across, the color of your skin, money, someone giving you a break, family connections, etc.) they received along the way. I love that Destiny acknowledges how "luck" played a part.

    Damn. I didn't think that Tom's audience would have so many politically illiterate and insecure men without the ability of critical thought or acceptance of the human experience. Let alone that many vocally proud of their lack of life experience/ability to engage with beliefs they don't hold. Majority of the comments are bashing Destiny for expressing his thoughts and opinions when they're just that, thoughts and opinions. Haters gotta do better than this and grow mentally. Great episode!

    I always find it interesting that people with wealth, tell you not to worry about wealth. I'm convinced they don't remember what it's like to struggle and that's why these kinds of things end up coming out in a conversation. I'm willing to bet if they were broke, this emphasis on "wealth don't help" wouldn't exist. Ain't no one struggling talking about " wealth won't make you happy....BRUH

    Well I think there is a balance Like if you can't afford food...money is an issue But if you have everything settled more or less with enough to treat yourself basically...extra bread probably doesn't help too much Like idk if the numbers still hold up with inflation....but like I think 5-6 years ago there was a study that expressed this general point Until someone makes 75 k per yeard usd, earning more money helps. Someone making 60 is likely more happy than one making 30. Because at 30 if your tire goes flat or your AC breaks etc etc that money is like an anchor in your life. But when 75 k is hit... roughly...with decent money management...you should be able to live a comfortable life with most things taken care of...an emergency won't feel like death. After that point they said the extra money does not bring in equivalent extra happiness So in theory if I'm making 75 and I want to make 120.....maybe the extra work and effort required will negatively outweigh the benefits of the money.

    The key is being self equipped. If you know you can make what it takes to live without normal worries to pay bills ($80k average, obviously the more frugal lifestyle the lower). Having the ability and knowing you can pay your bills is when you don’t need to focus on wealth. Although I think destiny is extremely hypocritical as he lectures its materialistic yet he chases riches shamelessly himself

    Lol which neither of them said wealth isn’t something to strive for. You missed the point completely. Wealth is just a tool that in the proper hands can be used to greatly increase your passion and satisfaction in other areas of life. However, wealth is not a cure all for giving you a true purpose and fulfillment. This is why you experience moments of emptiness and disappointment even when you should be in a “good” spot. You should strive to be successful and make a name for yourself. But the idea that if you made a 100 million tomorrow would actually give you what you think it would is stupid. Most people that don’t become rich through a career or job fail at being rich, blow their money on stupid shit, give it away to friends and family, and end up being broke again.
