Apparently two or three of these have turned up. Town And Country Time had been on radio and Connie B Gay who was the primary force behind TACT was trying to get a TV deal. ''TACT" was picked up by WMAL TV and was aired live from their Connecticut Ave. NW studios until c.1957 when Dean got a CBS daytime show. There is some evidence that "TACT" was also broadcast from Turner's Arena, DC's "Mother Church" of C&W. No recordings of TACT exsist from its actual TV broadcasts. Early comments for the other filmed episodes attribute them to kinescope recordings of broadcasts. They are not. The films are stand alone episodes. Gay filmed these episodes in a DC film studio, possibly unsure if "TACT" would be picked up as a film program. The films were distributed by Official Films which also distributed the "Soundies" series which were short musical clips of musical acts doing songs with rudimentary production elements. "Soundies" were made to be played in a coin operated unit called a Panoram, a large reverse projection TV styled device that added visuals to the "jukebox" format. The DC area became a hotbed for Country Music in the postwar era, rivalling Nashville as far as audience and venues. Much of this can be attributed to the DC area being a prime location for government and military employment which brought people seeking work from rural areas and along with that, s demand for music and entertainment popular with rural audiences. "TACT" took off on DC area TV and would go on to showcase such talents as Roy Clark and Patsy Cline who were both broadly DC based among others. "TACT''s biggest moment came in early March 1956 when Elvis Presley was a guest on the show to promote his appearance on a Wilson Line Potomac River excursion boat. For decades it was taken as "fact' that Presley actually performed on "TACT" that afternoon. He didnt. It took decades of sleuthing to separate fact from the "rememberies" of a generation of DC residents. Presley was interviewed by host Jimmy Dean, having come up from his previous night's show at The Mosque in Richmond. At the time, DC was the furthest point north Presley had appeared live. That night's show on the Wilson Line was quite oversold with the boat unable to leave the dock as a result. "Town And Country Time" is fondly remembered by DC area residents of a certain age who wer rabid C&W fans. To that end, even though none were born in DC, with only Roy Clark setting down roots in the area for years after, Jimmy Dean, Patsy Cline And Roy Clark are still thought of as "DC's Own". On each of their passing, particularly, Patsy Cline, old time DC fans felt as if they had lost close friends thanks in part to having seen them first on "Town And Country Time" so many years before.
