Eddie McGee is often overlooked when it comes to Tower of power lead singers. It's so nice, by your side, those are epic tunes forgotten!

Other stagecraft: Sly Stone did hambone in the theatre aisles including on Ed Sullivan Show; Edgar Winter did vocalese with guitarists on Tobacco Road, or played all the instruments as per Frankenstein; Todd Rundgren climbed a pyramid; Bowie arrived in the palm of a giant turning human hand; we saw this TopP version in Boston Music Hall and they stole the affair from headliner the mighty Mr Geo Benson - ToP horn section also worked the aisles

WHOA a top shelf CT breakdown with the B-3 on his original tune Squib Cakes opening this show - listen to the last syncopation he makes! Under fat, in the dictionary. This ToP stagecraft was a highlight of 70s concert-going, same for the Pickett dance. Bands had lots fo trademark moves. My fave John McLaughlin in duet with one of his crazy drummers. For some it would have been EL&Ps rotating drum kit; for others the Kiss flashpots that set a couple of fires, without fatality; they put soot on the roof timbers of the Halifax Forum. Mind you that pyro (as we later learned to call it) may have banished the scent of the Atlantic Winter Fair livestock which came through every November. CT did the same in our town 8 different nights in January 1981, drums & bass capably handled by the underrated Vito San Filippo & Mark Sanders. CT baffles Mark on the board tape found here on YT but they lock in wicked before it's over. Bill Boutilier channel. Vocalist Michael Jeffries charms the building front to back

yeah! this is the way this lineup sounded when they 1st hit the road.....remember when they did a gig at danny seraphines beginnings nightclub in schamburg illinois (an amazing show) then there was soundstage in chicago when mcghee came out of the closet that was the beginning of the end of TOWER OF POWER.....never been the same....period!

wow man the guitar & synth solo tones on Squib Cakes are deep . and does that bass pedal vamp by CT climb diatonic, then descend chromatic, minor? just so badass - the last phrase CT creates bring chills - Boogie Beck & Conte read it perfectly throughout.

This is before Eddie McGee supposedly blew his voice out trying to sing over the horn’s. Great great concert incredibly tight Ronnie E Beck on drums. And for people who remember the 2000 Olympics, man who rigged the Olympics is playing bass. Victor Conte.

Lenny, Hubert and Edward all used a giant Sennheiser as a vocal mike and you can maybe hear it on this tape - and there is jazzy trail vocalese by Edward on This Time Its Real & every syllable stands out. Michael Jeffries used an SM58 & killed with it; but he didn't sound as amazing as on LP, where to me it was like 2 guys singing at once. Points though to the crazy Edward McGee tonality on this show - great. Still Mr Jeffries is in my ancient crank opinion the best all around ToP vocalist, example; is multi-track he created for Never Let Go Of Love. On stage he evoked the yearning of LWs famous tracks, but could promote ecstasy in a funk jam within a minute - a real actor.

I don't think it's a keys solo. I think it's Lenny Pickett on Lyricon, a sax synth. There is great footage of Richard Elliot playing one with TOP on the Maintence Shop TV show. It's here on the Toob somewhere
