Come join us as we interview Mike McGinley at his HO scale Southwestern Pacific and explore the Santa Fe at work as of 1992. This 18 x 22 foot pike is beautifully modeled and offers top-notch railfanning of the AT&SF working the American Southwest, including the mountains of the West and red rock landscapes in the desert as the line moves inland. You'll get to see some of Mike's new updates to the layout. The feature includes piggyback, manifest, and autorack AT&SF trains as well as Amtrak's "Pepsi Can" locomotives and a Metrolink demonstration train.

This gentleman reminds me of the old Model Railroad pros from the 1970s, when the hobby was still thriving...
Amazingly realistic. The opening scene could easily be mistaken for the real thing.

What blows me away the most is the incredibly well-done background art!
I like how he creates the sound of the screeching flanges of the wheels in turns.
The super elevated curves and trackwork is excellent.
The beginning of the video had to look close. Looks so real. Cool video

Yeah those sound effects are almost surreal while you're looking at a model railroad... Guy's like the Michaelangelo of model railroading,, give him a gymnasium and $250 grand and make the 5th wonder of the world set...

This guy is good! That first shot was so realistic I was fooled into thinking it was prototype! The rest of the scenes were just as realistic but I couldn't get fooled again. This is the perfect layout!

That's a beautiful set up it looks so real the only thing missing is the hobo on one of the trains and Graffiti On the boxcars
[im. in to the same hobby. I, own a 2 story house and I've got every bed rm. upstairs filled up with HO scale model railroad. I, love the hobby]👍

since you got so much beautiful detail here...I did want to mention that the car parked near the railroad crossing has an expired sticker, just wanted to warn you so it doesn't get a ticket!!!
I would string some across the phone poles, it would create even more realism !

Measure the length. Between the poles, utilize model cement to glaze the string, put the weight droop to the string let it dry, then attach it between the poles and it will have the necessary glaze to the wires and add to the realism !!!

Black thread works wonders on giving the illusion of phone pole wires..
Mike doing his best Jimmy Stewart impersonation as he describes his layout. Unintentionally, of course, but his voice does subtly echo Jimmy.

Where does the brake squeal and sounds of grinding while the cars go by come from? The sound of cars like that is missing so much to me now on my set!

Very neat. My only criticism is that the handrail on Santa Fe 3332 is bashed inward.

1:24 You wouldn't be able to put the Santa Fe unit 2nd out on that train as there would be no way to run the HEP to the cars.

Absolute amassing detail patina! Only thing missing is the graffiti on the unites.
Even the black tank car was bulged and sagging a little in the middle like the real thing. I noticed there are not a lot of 'mannequin' people and animals seemingly frozen in time while the trains pass by. OK for still pics but not so good for videos.
Urgh, I hate dubbed model railway footage.
Why don't the modelers make the track "Not Bumpy"? The jittering that the box cars show ruin the entire effect.
