Model Railroad Layout HO Scale - USA Model Trains and Powerful Steam Locomotives and Diesel Locos

In this video, we see that model railroading, railway modelling or rail transport modeling is not just an international hobby, but also that railfanning connects people across borders. Although Carlo Spada lives in Italy, he likes American railroads and trains, especially powerful steam locomotives and diesel-electric locomotives.
Carlo has used “Pilentum’s Upload Service” to show us his model railroad layout and to share his enthusiasm for model trains with us. In 2014, Carlo began building his model train layout in HO scale. His miniature world in 1/87 scale covers an area of 9.0 x 4.5 meters and depicts areas of the United States that are particularly close to his heart, such as Arizona, California and Colorado. On the model railroad layout he installed tracks, points and switches made by manufacturer Peco (Code 83). The model trains are controlled by an ESU ECOS2 digital control center and the LISSY system from Uhlenbrock.
On the model railway layout the double-track railway line is divided into a total of seven blocks in which six model trains can run simultaneously. He has arranged the blocks in such a way that trains with a length of approximately five meters can run. Trains and the great locomotives of the United States are the most important protagonists in this video. Therefore, many videos have been taken at the large engine shed or on the turntable, where we can enjoy the locomotives and their digital sound modules.
The rolling stock, locomotives and freight cars are made by various manufacturers, including Athearn Genesis, Kato, Broadway Limited, Intermountain, Rivarossi, Scale Trains, Atlas and Walthers. Carlo owns a large collection of diesel-electric locomotives, including the GE AC4400CW, ES44AC, ET44AC, EMD SD70, EMD SD90, GE P42DC, EMD F7, GE Dash 9, GE Dash 8 and EMD F40PH. Carlo also loves the powerful tender steam locomotives, for example the Pennsylvania Railroad 2-10-4, Pennsylvania Railroad 4-8-4, Southern Pacific No. 4294, a 4-8-8-2 cab forward type steam loco, or the Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4015 4-8-8-4. Finally, there are other steam locomotives in the large roundhouse, such as a 4-6-2, 0-8-0 and 4-4-4.
Apart from the desert area that Carlo has rebuilt with real sand from the Mojave Desert, he has also installed battery-powered road vehicles on his HO scale layout. The truck and the bus have a magnet attached to the front steering. The magnet follows a steel wire hidden under the road surface. The beautiful wooden trestle bridges are made by model kits from the manufacturer Micro Engineering Inc. Houses, buildings, engine shed and the turntable are made by model kits from the manufacturer Walthers.

In reality these inconveniences exist, I have seen several of them on KZread videos. It's easy to reproduce them in Ho scale; the tail locomotive is not part of the consist and therefore (not having coupled the hooks between the wagons that will separate) being able to control it separately, I decreased its speed.

First off, I live here in the states and I'm very familiar with the Southwestern Landscape and I'm amazed this guy in Italy captured it so well. Fabulous layout, great locos and rolling stock, scenery is excellent. Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you for the comment! I have visited the United States of America three times and I prefer the Western area even if your whole Great Country is fantastic. Crossing parts of Arizona, California and Colorado I was amazed and what I saw will remain in my heart forever.

Such a beautiful layout! Love the weathering on the UP's, the Big Boy, the T-1, and for me the best shot was that of the slow moving Cab Forward!

I like this layout. The tractor trailer & the bus moving on the road 🛣️ on the layout. Amtrak Superliners I have all of these cars & Genesis engine. Union Pacific Diesel locomotive. The Southern Pacific cab Forward. Pennsylvania Railroad Baldwin steam loco. The turntable works well, I especially like the Shop facility for Union Pacific. i'm so familiar with this building from Walthers. Its been featured in other videos two of them were customized & painted for The BNSF model railroad. This video is fantastic excellent views of all shown. 👍🎥⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🚦🛤️🚆🛤️🚦🛣️

That three axle trailer are present out west including four axle trailers just wanted to correct you…. I drove out to Oregon twice and then down to Sedona and I’ve seen them out there especially gasoline tankers

This detail is obtained with Faller System parts. A reed relay is fitted on the bus and an electric magnet is fitted under the road before the tracks which is activated when the railroad crossing barriers are closed.
Location modeled? Looks like Arizona.

It's not a specific location, it's a set of areas that I admired while crossing part of Arizona. Then with my imagination I tried to unite all these images that remained within me.
Can someone tell me how the cars are able to move I had a model train when I was younger so I understand that
Nice layout, but the engine sounds do get to me after a while. Too high pitched. If the cars are battery-powered how do you control them,?

In these cases there usually is a magnet below that moves around, or if its sophisticated enough the car would move itself

Look up Magnorail, it's a system with a motor and chain assembly with magnets attached to some of the links that pull the vehicles along.

The steam engine says Pennsylvania but the scenery says NM, AZ, UT, NV.

Certainly the Pennsylvania locomotives circulated in the Eastern area of the USA but, it may happen that in Ho scale these models circulate "outside the area". On the other hand, recently, hasn't the 4014 Big Boy circulated in areas that it had never crossed in its years of service?

He's got the quintessential North American rail power on display, is there a European equivalent that us Americans can purchase to reciprocate? Are there European, locos, train sets, that you would look at on an american layout and say "oh yeah, that's home"?

I have always had Italian style trains which I still appreciate but, when I visited your great Country I also saw your extraordinary trains in those wonderful settings and I fell in love with them. In Europe trains are all similar to each other and speed is the factor that matters most.

In an attempt to fulfill its power needs the Denver & Rio Grande Western, as well as Southern Pacific, turned to German builder Krauss-Maffei. Krauss-Maffei ML 4000 is a road switcher diesel-hydraulic locomotive.
