Tour of the crypt
Ойын-сауық
I've always wanted to see the basement of my church, where one of the founding pastors is buried!
Father Vincent Collins (died 1909), pastor of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandan, North Dakota, was at his own request buried under the church he loved so much.

At the beginning, that is the Celtic cross. Lots of ancient graves in Ireland have Celtic designs, all with shapes of cross.

Dark Shadows was a radio episode every week I think CBS used to sponsor it. I grew up in Philadelphia and used to listen to each episode in the evenings when it came on . Quality stuff but, Only the Shadow Knows.
Wow! I found this very interesting, thank you so much!

My pleasure!
Rather impressive, though the good Father spoke a little too softly for me to make out what he was saying. How common is it in Catholicism to have a founding priest of a church be buried beneath it?

In Britain it's quite common to not only have founders but also dignitaries

Apparently according to canon law it is permissible.
I’ve seen bishops and cardinals buried in their cathedral crypt, but not a pastor. He mush have really loved his church. But, God forbid, what would happen if the church was ever burned to the ground?
It looks like what started out as a burial crypt has been turned into a storage room. Pretty sad state of affairs. Love to all.
Good stuff!

Could be worse. Could be nasty water or adipocere.
That cross on the black marble looks to be Celtic in design

That is correct; Father Collins was of Irish descent. That slab was only added in 2011, though.

I knew it was something Irish. We have lots of Celtic crosses in cemeteries here in Ireland.
I'm confused. Whose crypt is that supposed to be?

Nobody you would have heard of; he was a founding pastor of a local parish whose dying request was to be buried under the church.
Whose grave was this for .
